  1. This picture just goes to show, how handsome a car a totally stock 300zx is. I'd never put mine back to stock... but that 89 spec nose looks perfect, so do the standard "skirts" and OEM back bumper. Timeless!!!
  2. That homebrew job is great, what would be the differences between firing that charge air into the intake compared to the exhaust? Having thought about it, it would work, but, you would have difficulty MAFing it and titrating it in correctly. The wastegate in the exhaust side would just sort everything out for you doing it the Volvo way.
  3. I wonder about that, I see new releases and imagine if I'll be buying them when they are (the future equivalent) of 8 grand. Something like an Alfa Guilia or an M4, will they still be about? Will it be legal to own old cars? Will I have a cat in hells chance of working on them?
  4. Have you seen and what do you think of Volvo's turbo lag solution? They are using a small electric compressor to keep an air tank full, which then aids the exhaust in spooling when you would otherwise be getting lag. I can see how it will work but Jesus that will be complicated and prone to leaks and what not!
  5. Low fluid level? If it isn't something in the engine bay and it's something wrong with the air conditioning and heater control system... I've hardly worked on it, but I bet it's NASA grade complicated :# :clover:
  6. Yeah Chris, air gets very soupy thick at that speed. Planes can fly at lower speeds!
  7. So, it took me about 1200m to reach 150mph, at which point you're doing 70m/s! I remember using my K sports and taking the bottom corner quite fast a couple of times. I'd have needed some serious room to go faster.
  8. Redline magazine was good Si. I honestly don't think I have lost "only" 15mph Alic. I have been into the top end of 5th gear and was doing about 140ish. My car has done over 160mph, when it had the TT Diff, but you're really covering ground at that speed, the last runway I was on (Chivenor) I had just enough room for 150mph or so. I know it was only 20mph away from 180, but it's a BIG 20mph at that end of the speedo. I'll get a picture, let's see how much room it took to reach 150mph...
  9. What an awful magazine! So, did he put a supra box in his 300? I reckon a lot of TT zeds could do 180mph, I never will sadly, not with my new NA back end. I think I'm now limited to 150ish. I don't really like Vauxhauls, but even putting that aside, I'm not sure 250hp could push any car through that much air. I am prepared to be wrong but I think physics says no to that one. Good find Alic :thumbup1:
  10. I think s13 silvia is being a bit harsh there, perhaps they can be noisy heavy and creaky. But the right mods and they are none of those things. Mods doesn't just mean Need for Speed madness, the right suspension and tyres will control the weight and add composure, dynamat is wonderful stuff and 400hp feels like the car was designed to have it.
  11. The fuel flap is a good way to tell at a glance if a car is a shorty or not.
  12. Good advice from the guys there. I simplify a lot of the variations into this. Long or Short wheelbase Targa or Slicktop Turbo or NA Automatic or manual For some the "best" would be a SWB, TT, Slicktop, Manual. That would be the lightest and most powerful. But in this day and age, a lot have been modified and you wouldn't want the above car if it was knackered and rusting. The NAs are still fast because the gears are shorter and they are lighter. The Targas are normally better equiped than the slicktops and not much heavier really. The SWB cars are more skitty than the LWB cars. LWB cars have useable rear seats. I am sure the lightest, SWB, Slicktop, TT, would be fadter than a LWB Targa TT, if they were both stock. But Mine is a big heavy one and it would batter an OEM SWB slicktop. Zeds, are ace, just get one :)
  13. I saw this out the window, and despite 90% of this image being an argument for staying indoors, those few red pixels dragged a smile onto my face and my arse into the car  If there had been any doubt in my mind as I bleeped the car open while skipping to avoid puddles, it vanished with the slightly clattery but familiar shut of the door and the smell of an old Nissan. I went nowhere in particular, just to wherever seemed quiet, but for the scrabbling scuffs of rubber, the splutter of turbos and the beat of Dire Straits. I only alarmed myself slightly when I realised your level of grip stays exactly the same regardless of how loudly you play "Money For Nothing". because it honestly feels like you should have more  All in all the zed has earned it's layer of brown grime and a new spot in the car park. I left it to tick cool with a loving pat on the Targa. Stay safe out on those skitey roads guys :)
  14. Sorry I missed this yesterday, Happy Birthday Jeff :) I hope you're having a great Portugese weekend :thumbup1:
  15. Happy Birthday Gary :thumbup1: :pint: Have a great day and weekend  edit. That :p was meant to be "pint"
  16. Good photoshop skills Alic, I think 19s 'can' look too big, they can also look totally at home. Those CC-R Wheels are beautiful mate.
  17. The calculator backs up my pen and paper calculations, phew :)
  18. The pad is the face on the inside of the alloy which mates flat against the hub. Standard Wheels 7.5 +45 offset 7.5 inches = 183mm/2 = 91-45mm = 46mm from the pad to the outermost point of the rim. 8.5 +35 offset 8.5 inches = 208mm/2 = 104-35mm = 69mm from the pad to the outermost point of the rim. Yours 8 +35 offset 8 inches = 196mm/2 = 98-35 = 63mm from the pad to the outermost point of the rim. 9 +35 offset 9 inches = 220mm/2 = 110-35 = 75mm from the pad to the outermost point of the rim. So they are going to be 17mm wider on the front and 6mm wider on the rear. The hub centre bore is 66.1mm Your wheels are 72.6mm and 73mm So you will need hub centric spiggot rings otherwise the wheels will be slack around the little lip on the hub. Someone shoot me down if that is all *****cks. Please check my homework!
  19. That's how I understand the Nico Guide. I hope that helps a bit.
  20. Give me half an hour. I'll get a pen and paper :) I have been meaning to look into how offsets work... for my stance build!
  21. Welcome to the club. Sorry to read about your old car :pinch: Get a new and better one :thumbup1:
  22. Haha  That's not me it's jump lead hero Taff Morris. There car was like, volumetricly full, of gear, full window to window carpet to targa. Bearing pullers, water pumps, gearbox components, jerry cans of fuel... No bloody jump leads, they were in a Honda in Shropshire  And Gary, those are "wool-cows" as we call them in the North East  not "milk-cows"
  23. I hitched a lift to RAF Valley (in a Vauxhall not an Augusta Westland unfortunately) and retrieved my car  It didn't start the awkward beast. But I borrowed some electricity and it did in a turn of the key. I'm glad I got chance to drive it. It drove on the 4th Sept for my track day. Then I drove myself to Valley a few weeks ago just to drive it 30 miles in a loop! But today it's home. The brakes have recovered a bit on the drive after the track day gave them a hard time. I forget how bloody powerful it is, I've missed it :)
  24. No cats and a japspeed 2.5 inch X pipe from the downpipe back. Nothing special but it sounds good to me. So there is loads of room for improvement with the manifolds and the downpipes.
  25. Whats that, stamp duty is gone  3 weeks before I pay it. Hahahaha  [Tom picks up the phone] "Hello Z1... I'll have all the fast bits please... yeah... all of them, particularly the ones that say 'track use only'. Oh and a weather strip me targa...cheers!" I'll have a think Si. I'd need more exhaust mods to fit them.
