The biggest upgrade I have ever bought my car!
They look very similar to Z1's there isn't the choice there once was. The Labree units are discontinued by czp/z1 and I want to save on shipping so dont want to go to a 3rd place. I may very well go for those. Any divorced unit is an upgrade and I could swap them the day the turbos die (hopefully in 2020 something)

Hi Daz, people on here will keep you right, when you find one up for sale post the ad onto this forum, we can then give it a communal going over :thumbup1: Rust probably is the thing to look out for. Rust hiding behind sideskirts. Everything can be fixed though, the cars are very strong, they take a massive battering if you give them plenty of oil changes. :clover:

The biggest upgrade I have ever bought my car!
Advice please guys, I'm planning my exhaust mods. Which are the best. I would like the Ash Spec manifolds and the best divorced downpipes available. But the range on CZP/Z1 isn't as large as it used to be. What do people advise? (Standard turbos and a Japspeed 2.5 inch downpipe back exhaust)

Tyres
Rex, I really like your car by the way, I think it sits really well and is a handsome thing :thumbup1: How I learned about tyres. One dark wet night me and my cousin went out in my MX5 and messed about with the tyre pressures. We did about a tank of fuel doing this across hours of driving. We had 30psi all round, as well as 40 and 20 all round. Then 40 front with 20 rear and the opposite. We found that higher pressures gave more grip in the wet. Ultimately something like 28 front vs 32 rear in the case of the Mx5. This is a very valuable experiment if you dare to and have the time. I'm going to do it again in the zed because I'm starting to forget what we learned. But high pressures worked better. I have my car really dialled in, but it will always slide about if you don't stop it from doing it.

Tyres
I second what Chris said, pressures are very important, particularly in the wet. Then suspension set up can make a huge difference, you want some compliance in the car. I like vredestien vorties. Avoid yokohamas. Toyos are good.

saw one of these today...
That track day I did at Angelsey I had about 7 hot passenger laps in one and it was very very fast. It was 20mph faster than my car everywhere on the track. It was as stiff as a board and had more electronics than a space ship. It never let go at all, finding a way to achieve whatever steering input it received, this caused an uninterrupted sequence of rumbling calipers with the stability system working hard on all 4 corners and long loud beeps of warning at each braking point. It had about 8 gears and each one disappeared in across 1300rpm with a rough aggressive bark. It wasn't as ultimately fast as my car, but it was at full boost and peak power at all times. This gave it an odd feeling as if you were suspended mid G force down every straight, leaving you pinned in your seat to watch as the car drew the corners towards itself rather than actually lunging forwards. It was nuts

Speedo and PAS
Mine is knackered atm. It might very well pass an MOT they may not find out it is US. The signal path is not what you may expect, it is gearbox, speedo, PAS ecu, ecu. It's probably the KPH to MPH converter if you have one, or something stupid gone wrong in the dash. It'll be possible to fudge the PS to one speed but I'd try to fix it first. It'll be easiest to have it stuck heavy which is fail safe becaude it assumes you're going fast not slow. I'll report back when I fix mine

MX5 - 300zx
https://www.z1motorsports.com/clutch-slave-cylinder/nissan/300zx-clutch-slave-cylinder-oem-nissan-p-683.html If when you take the old one off you happen to be doing it on your back in a hotel car park, with the car half up a kerb for access. Be careful not to curiously examine the part in your hands... push the piston in... and fire brake fluid into your face out of the 'in' port. I would imagine that would be possible... and I would imagine you would then have to run into the bar like a dickhead, vault over the bar between the till and the Guinness pump and plunge your brake fluidy face into the sink to clear your eyes out.... :pinch::wacko::oops: I do some F'''ing stupid things  :clover:

The biggest upgrade I have ever bought my car!
 Cheers Gary, It's in Conwy but it will always be a welcome pitstop to any forum member passing by. Mondo, I have these... I will probably get these because the lower pipes are still acordion plastic... and I want 'more' potential for boost leaks  I also have some enormous either Ash Spec Massives or Bell intercoolers, one was out of stock and i got the other, i cant remember which.

The biggest upgrade I have ever bought my car!
Ooh, yeah, nearly forgot, I'm going to put the battery in the boot, possibly a light weight one, advice very welcome. In order to free up some engine bay space, that will let me move my fuel system into the battery tray and fit a swirl pot, because I genuinely do get fuel starvation (only on the track your honour) and change to a parallel stock fuel rail set up. I expect I'll also be fitting 2 widebands :pinch: money!

The biggest upgrade I have ever bought my car!
Hello the Forum, time to get excited and plan big things. I've been building my car in my head for years, sometimes I do it in real life too, but now it's time to plan the next step. I have bought a house! With a bloody enormous garage 5.23m x 5.26m. I am going to compliment my house with 1x fridge, 1x sofa, 1x bed, 1x broadband router and an engine hoist  I think it was Joely P who referenced an American tuning study that showed how good a zed can be with stock turbos and better pipework. That is basically where my car is now. I want the fittest 500bhp in the country. From 3000rpm to the red line. My car is a bit like that now but with 400 and something. Those who have been in it it's a great road car. So, the plan is engine out, gearbox away for rebuild or a new 98 spec. I have the full compliment of shifter bits and pieces from Z1 I am going to put a new friction disc in, because my clutch has done about 25'000 miles of enthusiasm and torque (very bloody well i may add) Awesome product, and it feels like a normal clutch  It is not as grabby as radio presenter from the 80s like people think they are. I will then pull the engine and finish my EGR delete which I couldn't physically remove. Clean it, and re-hose and re-loom it (again) as required. Clean up the engine bay and fit some of these... OPINIONS PLEASE :) And some divorced downpipes, again, opinions please. I expect I'll keep my hard working little auto turbos, 88'000 miles on them, 35'000 at 16psi and a few at 22psi! #boost jet mistakes I just want it to be the best version of itself that it can be. Chat to me forum, lets get my zed to the next level of awesome

Brake pedal being sucked towards floor
How do the brakes behave with the engine off?

Hi i have a question about vtc
Or rather that stuff there vvv The solenoid is at the back as I understand it. If his front Sprockets look like this... I don't see how he can have VTC, despite the ECU and solenoids doing their thing, the camshafts having the oil-ways, I believe he is missing the mechanism at the front.
-
Hi i have a question about vtc
Has he not lost the gears on the front of the engine?
-
Hi i have a question about vtc
I don't have the whole answer for you but I'll have a try. I think you will lose it, because the system requires the VTC solenoid on the back, a camshaft with the correct oil galleries in it and the twisting ramping mechanism on the front. You have lost 2 of those things by my understanding. The solenoids will still click in and out at the back but nothing will happen. Having had a google into this, your camshafts appear to retain the oil galleries but I don't think the JUN sprockets do. :clover: wait for a few more answers mate :)

Cambelt- to change or not to change
You're winning Jeff... but I'm catching you up  It was a proud moment in my spannering career... or rather, a few hours later when it started was  These were like "Ksssshk!" and the new ones were like "whsss" haha, it ran like a sewing machine afterwards.

Cambelt- to change or not to change
My car had a belt done at about 40'000 miles in about 2011 before my ownership, earlier this year at 80'000 miles I did the full belt service and found the belt to be fine, but the idle pulleys were rough and noisey. Get it done. Also, my waterpump failed at about 60'000 miles. Get it all sorted out, it will be an unhappy car sitting for that long. :clover:
