Clutch slipping
Good point, one was knackered but that was a seal in the cylinder not the rod. If I still have it I will send it to you mate but I really can't remember what happened to it. I will let you know either way tomorrow. :thumbup1:

Storms that hit southern England last night.
Mate it's like a pepper pot. In real life it's like an orange but quite hard to get a snap on a phone. Are there options to get a plastic etc one?

Hi mate, I'm not an engineer but can host you either at Wattisham Airbase or Chivenor RMB so you can have a poke round a sea king.

My condololences to all British victims in Tunisia....
I agree with Stephens comments, I was very unimpressed with Sky news yesterday. As is always the way with 24hr news there was time to fill but nothing to say, they had a woman on the phone who had heard a bang. That was it. They went round and round, putting words in her mouth and asking "Were people shot on their sunbeds?" I thought, "You'd f***ing love that Sky wouldn't you, there is your headline, shot on sunbeds." I was really annoyed. These articles need coverage, but exactly as Steve said, videos, mugshots and "shot on sunbeds" is not the right way. Turning these terrorists into villains or worse poster boys for the next string of crack-pots. Everyone be very careful today, this being armed forces day. Some dickhead somewhere will try to do something.

He said his ethos is to start with a post mortem, as he called it, look at what hardware could be reused with a view to save as much as he could, then change software, such as synchros and bearings. His terminology not mine. From there aditional costs would come from needing new gearsets etc. So I spose he meant its a flat 240, then whatever it needs in parts to get it tickedy boo. He said Nissan spent a lot of time getting their oil recommendation right, use that. He kept using redline 90/shockproof as an example of the root of a gearboxes problems. So he said ise the stock Nissan reccomended oil, and to go thinner rather than thicker. I put redline MT90 in about 18months ago. The clutch system has just been bled and te bite is "a bit low" but still one inch up from the bottom. It engages all gear well stationary. Just can not be rushed while driving. - - - Updated - - - He said his ethos is to start with a post mortem, as he called it, look at what hardware could be reused with a view to save as much as he could, then change software, such as synchros and bearings. CZP haven't replied but that is a last resort anyway. I spoke to 2 companies about refurbishment and one said "give us your vin number the labour will be £300." The other was a true gent. He spoke to me for 30 minutes and we discussed all sorts. A 5 speed refurb would be £240+VAT. Labour would be £60 an hour and he expected a couple of hours each end to get the box on and off if I want a drive in drive out service. We spoke about oil and shifters, treatments and uprating. Basically, he doesn't rate redline MT90 like the rest of the internet seems to. He said it's too thick and isn't appropriate. He said quick shifters are the devils work, (Si I always knew you were probably right and mine came with the car) that cryo and shot peening services are £450 each. They will put 20% life extension on a gearset, but that could be a week on an old box or 2 years on a new one. Also he said you don't get increased power transmission or shift speed or anything. All in all top bloke called Bernie at Gearbox man, so step one, some gearbox oil and a long shift. I'm gonna go and google long shifts but has anyone got one here?

Cool, I have a few options then. £900 box before duty etc from RHD Japan. Possibly a known history box from Bob. A rebuild. Next question, rebuilding your own gearbox. Is it a take LOTS of pictures, normal tools sort of a job. Or a job for a specially trained wizard where you need special tools and everything is set to a certain torque? - - - Updated - - - My phone is playing up sorry for the duplication.

RHD Japan have one at a converted £900, the us sites work out at £1150. So the benefits are more longevity than performance then Si? I supose that my comparison was for a new 98 box vs a freshly rebuilt 89 box. I have a suspicion that I have never felt a good z32 box of any description. Mine has always been a bit clattery and metalic.

Thanks guys, I am not against a second hand box, but would hate to swap it twice in a couple of years. I would rather rebuild my own or have it done somewhere. If it can't be done to 98spec the question becomes "How much better is a 98 spec box???" I obviously don't know how good a standard 89 box is, or the history of mine. Mine may be a 150'000 mile box? Only Zedworld and Hollings will know more.

I have had a good google but haven't found what I need. My gearbox is annoying me now, it is holding the car back, it hasn't "gone" but it is going. You can't rush it, I realised I have come to drive around the gearbox, Sarah doesn't want to be doing all double clutch revmatch downshifts so it needs sorting. A new 98 spec box is $1800 from the states, too much and I can only imagine the shipping costs. I would rather rebuild mine, the kits are cheap but I want to know if I can build my box up to 98 spec? Are there other options? I haven't found any, do supra boxes fit or similar? Obviously with modifications. I don't know quite how to sort this one. Thanks guys.
