  1. OK I mentioned this on another of my threads When I went down to the Coventry meet last week, the air vents in my car were stuck in 'Auto' position, blowing air through the centre console and door vents and would not switch over to windscreen demist When I pressed the Auto/Demist buttons on the climate control, the appropriate LED would light and there would be the bleep to indicate it was switching over Also there was a click from behind the passenger glove compartment when switching between Auto/Demist While over at Lee Dent's today he had a look at this for me With the passenger glove compartment removed, it was clear to see an actuator arm was moving each time we selected Auto/Demist However the air flow through the vents was not switching With the cowling over the dashboard clocks removed, Lee had his hand down behind the left Binacle and there is another acutator here which directs the air flow The problem was that part of the wiring connected to some sort of controller box was fouling the actuator so it could not move. With the obstructing item moved out of the way all worked fine. It's quite apparent now that I introduced this fault myself when I had the dash clocks out last year to fit reverse indiglow dials. I pushed the wiring loom out of the way while refitting the dash and obviously fouled the air vents mechanism. As my car was off the road from AUtumn last year until May this year I never spotted the problem. Anyone facing similar issues hopefully now has somewhere to look for the cause Thanks for the help Lee :flowers: Rich
  2. OK. Today I have politely emailed Dave Naxton once again to see if he has any suggestions regards my problem, and also mentioned your issue as well Pete. Hopefully this time I will get a reply Rich
  3. I don't disagree there Noel - I had not demanded anything, I contacted the organisers three times to see if we could come to some sort of (unspecified) compromise or resolution. If they had offered me a credit against a future event for example I would have been happy enough with that. My issue is that I have not had the courtesy of a response, even if said response had been 'tough luck mate'. That I think is a justified complaint. Rich
  4. Know what Ian, it's obvios to me that I missed a great weekend and and I'm really peed that I missed it. I want to attent next year (bet you are hooked now mate!) Just I have given him plenty of time to reply and I know it's not his fault that I had the problems I did, and I don't think I am being unreasonable on finding some sort of compromise either - just sooner or later one loses faith and then you have to air your greavances I guess Rich
  5. Reading this thread just makes me even more annoyed that I had so many problems when I tried to get my car mapped and ready for an event which I already payed to attend, and despite two emails and also texting Dave Naxton asking him as soon as I knew there was a problem whether we could come to some agreement (a part refund or a credit for next years event would have satisfied me) yet I was never given the courtesy of a reply. In fact I was phoned the night before the event (missed the call) asking which team I was attending with and when I texted back explaining who I was and that I had emailed a couple of times because I couldnt compete, I never heard back. So as it stands o far I had absolutely no response whatsoever which IMHO is very unprofessional on the organisers part so now I guess I have no option other than to try my credit card company and/or paypal for a refund. Shame as it was obviously a great weekend and I am extremely peed off that my car let me down and I missed it. Not for one minute that will stop me from competing next time - in fact I'm now more determined than ever!! It's just a shame these organisers are so plain ignorant  Rich
  6. OK Noel. I know it is not actually 'blown up' it was a figure of speech as Ian and I did have this conversation jokingly at Coventry... as I have said here the car is running OK on the road for general use and is perfectly drivable and not notably smoking when driven. I'm already commited to, and accept, the fact this engine is gonna have to be pulled and certain things are going to need checking out before we try again Look forward to chatting with you Rich
  7. @Ian Sorry Ian - we did discuss on Saturday who was most likely to blow up the engine first - just i did it even before I even got on the track FFS Yeah know what I think I wil come to watch - as mentioned the car is running OK on the road, just it's not going anywhere near a track right now unfortunately mate. @Gray Good to hear Gray it's not just me who made that particular mistake then, Know what though - I also intend to make enough BHP to ensure the trip is well worth the defeats and hassle on the way! Could be some very powerful Zeds on the forum next year I reckon
  8. Yep looks like it Steve It was always part of the plan for my old block this coming winter - I just hoped to get more out of this one in the meantime As I say it is not a total disaster, the car is quite usable as it stands, just I ain't ever gonna get any big horses out of this engine in this condition.
  9. Well my white Zed is well known enough around the forums. I was caught myself on one of the photo's uploaded a couple of days ago. I'm the guy with the maroon teeshirt and camera on my shoulder Rich
  10. Well today I discovered something new.... It should have been quite predictable but what I discovered is big new GTX2860R turbos and 21yr old piston rings do not go together well!! OK I took my car for a second attempt at a remap with Noz..... It transpired my boost controller was not working now for some reason (was working last time he mapped it) and it was stuck at 10psi boost The car was running OK with this, at about 330BHP Noz said Anyway, Noz connected a manual boost controller to complete mapping the car, and at 18psi and 5000RPM the 21yr old piston rings decided they did not like all this extra pressure one little bit - and the car proceeded very suddenly to eject the dipstick and a considerable quantity of oil from the engine in quite spectacular fashion whilst simultaneously chucking out a hell of a lot of smoke from the exhausts OK so boys and girl this is probably old knowledge but from my own experience now..... trying to get 550BHP out of a 21yr old engine in retrospect was probably not the best of ideas!!! Things are not a total disaster. Set back at 10psi and now remapped, the car is running fine for normal road use at around 330BHP and it's not throwing oil out all over the place or huge amounts of smoke either. I guess my next step now is to rebuild my original block while keeping the car on the road for the summer with this engine fitted. Unfortunately this now means I won't be able to take my car on the track at TOTB as planned - I don't want to give it the strain of doing that and hopefully it will see me through the rest of summer OK Rich
  11. But how can you put a value on the pleasure to be had from creating something the way you want it? Simply because the money does not add to the value of the car I don't think it is fair to consider it wasted money. Wherever I take my car, it turns heads. How much is that worth? Like for example the conservatory I put on the house a couple of years ago - it didn't add it's cost to the value of the house, but then can we just ignore it's value to us when we enjoy the sitting their with the patio doors open? Likewise buying a new car would be money wasted (yeah OK someone will point out there are exceptions to that) Go buy one a couple years old, i's much better value. Yet many people aspire to 'waste money' on new cars if we look at it in that way.. Sorry I simply don't agree it is money wasted. OH PS I do agree about 20yr old external trim/scuttles etc - replaced every last bit of mine with brand new when I got the car resprayed - and it cost almost as much as the body kit! I also think that was money not wasted.... though I doubt it increased the value of the vehicle by a proportional amount Rich Rich
  12. What more is there to say other than I echo all the sentiments expressed by others on this thread It was a great day out, the missus loved going shopping (we were so close to the city centre!) and on top of all the great cars and getting to make a few more friends, the Transport Museum was also a very enjoyable hour Yes we should make this an event to measure all others against. I know, and as others have mentioned, we have LakeZ and Zfest and the likes.... but a major annual one day event like this, arranged at a similar type of venue (possibly in different areas of the country each year?) is something I would love to see come to fruition. Third weekend of July also seems like a good one to go for  Rich
  13. Oh god yeah the storm on the way home.... I actually had to pull over for 10 mins and wait the worst of it out and that's the first time I ever had to do that in my life....... car was aquaplaning at 30-40 MPH and I couldn't see a bloody thing!!!
  14. Yeah was a gerat day - probably the most Zeds I will ever see in one place.... but one never knows  I think everyones car is on at least one of these pics - sorry if I missed anyone Rich
  15. I posted a load of pics here too http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?177961-25th-Anniversary-Pics Could one of the mods merge with this thread to keep them all together? Rich
