Dyno predictions?
The clutch is standard for now Andy (AFAIK). They are GTX2860R Steve or maybe that was a typo? :devil2: Yeah I do rather fancy a FMIC - I think it will work rather well with the front bumper i have fitted - and hopefully look pretty mean too lol. That's a job for the winter though

Dyno predictions?
Depends on what Noz decides to do Steve @vodkashots - 'is it fuel mapped'? I guess that is part of what Noz does too? Regards Intercoolers etc - yes that upgrade is part of the next stage together with other induction upgrades, AMS manifolds, performance Rad and some other stuff. I may well fit a FMIC as there is plenty of room behind the large scoop on my front bumper and it would look impressive too I also have my old engine to strip and rebuild with forged parts But all that's for next winter. For now I want to have my car on the road and although Noz gave me a base map chip to get the car running with the 600cc injectors it's not properly set up for them so it's in for remapping in it's current format as I said. If nothing else this will eventually prove what difference the other supporting mods make as it will be mapped again next year. All will be revealed next Thursday then, but anyone else like to place a guess do feel free to have a punt Rich

Dyno predictions?
OK guys n gals well this is just a bit of fun really My car is going to Noz for mapping and dyno testing on Thursday  Anyone want to try and guess what BHP I will get? Assuming these are the things that will mostly determine or limit the results: I have GTX2860R turbos 600cc Injectors from PFI Canada Yellow Jacket coil packs HKS EVC Boost Controller Some sort of decat stainless exhaust system (never knew what it actually is) Standard SMICs, Induction, manifold Stock engine Manual transmission All the usual deletes - EGR, Air Con etc So just for a bit of fun then, what's the best guess for that lot? Closest gets..... some street cred.... and rep from me lol Rich

Tatton Park 31st May/1st June
Unfortunately I couldn't get any passes for Tatton as there was not enough space on the ZClub stand for us - but there is always next time  Rich

A peek inside the series 2 ptu :)
Daz send it to me anyway - no harm in having a look

A peek inside the series 2 ptu :)
Hmmmm Does anyone actually have a circuit diagram for the PTU? This is a very simple bit of electronics - shouldn't be too difficult to build something like this on a PCB - basically just six drivers for the coil packs Possibly uses six powerfets - or more likely IGBT drivers - plus a handful of resistors In fact given these things were built in the eary 90's it should be possible to design an even better one with the devices currently available :tongue_smilie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insulated-gate_bipolar_transistor Anyone interested in a bit of a project? Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
OK Bob I'm up for it Would prefer to make the whole weekend as I am gonna need some tuition and practice on the Saturday - is that OK? Bear in mind I have never been on a track before, regardless of what magic Noel can perform Cheers Rich

Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
Bob Though I've never done anything like this before I would be up for the challenge and anyway it sounds like a lot of fun. I'm certainly available that weekend Would be interested in getting involved in the GTO v Zed challenge, dependant on results of my mapping session with Noz next week As you probably know my car is now running GTX2860 tubs and 600cc injectors so I may get some half decent performance results once Noz has done his magic

What now!
Yeah TBH guys I can't really speak for him but Lee seemed very concerned over this whole issue and asked me for some pics of the damage - don't know if he thought pulling the engine may have had any influence on all this or not unless he decides to post here Was gonna get the local garage to bypass the pipes so Lee could sort it but in the end they fixed it and didn't cost anymore than a trip over to Shrewsbury and back plus whatever labour would have been involved there So all ended good this time... However I will take the advice and get all the remaining hoses (most have been deleted now) replaced with silicone ones and should not have to worry about this again. Of course they will have to be Red ones :tongue_smilie: Rich

What now!
OK problem solved As far as I can say there was no coolant left in the block or rad this morning - it took over a gallon of water to fill - prob about 10 pints Every time I filled the radiator to the top it would bubble then the water level drop again No contamination in the oil Took the car over the road to the garage and when I looked a couple minutes later there was a pool of water under the car Anyway they fixedthe problem - there was a split pipe where it goeds into the heater matrix (actually the other one may have had a small leak too) They vut an inch or so off both pipes and reconnected as there was still plenty of spare Car is running OK now, was allowed to warm up and no leaks as of yet Engine sounds same as before to me, so hopefully I escaped any severe damage Lee Dent gonna replace the old pipes with some new good quality ones next time he has the car Rich Rich
-
What now!
Lee Dent gave me a call this evening My car has all the coolant bypasses it can have so basically there is: the hoses to and from the radiator to and from the turbos to and from the heater matrix and that's about it He says the latter sounds the most likely problem - guess I will find out tomorrow and I really hope it didn't do any more serious damage being how my luck with Zeds has run of late! Rich

What now!
OK a little update I went back to the car - turned ignotion on The bleep bleep noise is because I left it in reverse :stupid: The 'check engine' indicator was on on the dash I did start it up - sounded OK, only ran it for 5 secs Not sure if I should remove the radiator cap yet = may still be quite warm There is a trail where water from under the car has run in the gutter Will get garage across the road to presurise the coolant system tomorrow - see where leak is
-
What now!
I guess the whirring noise was some additonal fans somewhere blowing cool air on the engine block? I never heard them on the Zed before but my Renault 25 V6 Turbo had three each side and used to do that sometimes if I was stuck in traffic in very hot weather. What's bugging me is why the temp guage did not go up (well not much at least) and indicate I had a problem???
-
What now!
OK so I had my car back since Saturday - it's been running OK This evening I took the missus to he Zumba class about 2 miles away. Just before I got there I heard this noice which I had not heard before like a fan blowing (thought my heater fans were on at first but they were not as it sounded like a noisy heater fan) Anyway I dropped her the wife off and ran the two miles or so back home - car running OK but after a mile started making a bit of an odd noise through the exhausts when coasting to junctions etc which I find very difficult to describe. Got to roundabout half a mile away and as I pulled off thought I saw smoke at side of and behind the car All guages looked OK, oil, boost, temp sitting at about 50% so ran the last half mile. Got home and soon as I stopped lots of steam coming up from under the bonnet towards rear offside Popped the bonnet and the steam was all hissing and coming very near the back off the engine - somewhere under the rear engine bay cover that I have fitted so it's not possble to see where exactly Tried to video this but by the time I got my camera it was still hissing a little bit but the steam had almost all stopped and soon the hissing stopped too There is some water underneath the car on the road but not great puddles of it Oh I turned the ignition back on (not started her of course) so I could wind up the windows and there is this orange light on the dash looks like it says 'check engine' and somethings going bleep.... bleep... bleep repeating maybe every second or a bit quicker than that If it ain't one thing with this car its another!!! grrrr Thoughts? Rich

Intermittent Immobilizer..... or???
Hi JOely - I know what you mean but it's not like that sort of problem where the lights go dim becuse there is insufficient battery power. Once it allows me to turn the engine over it cranks very fast and starts after a second or less. I will test your suggestion next time I have this problem by turning on the headlights and see if that causes the dash lights to dim or go off. That would prove or disprove the possibility of a dodgy battery terminal I would hope Hi Jeff - is your advice re: the starting problem or re: the occasional times when the starter moter does not engage properly and makes that horrible KCHRRR sound instead? Or re both problems? Cheers Rich

Boot installs....... and Targa Panels eek!!

Intermittent Immobilizer..... or???
I've had this problem for quite a long time - it only happens occasionally but somethimes you get in the car, turn the key, ignition comes on..... then turn to start and all the lights on the dash go out. Nothing else happens Now when I have had this problem I tend to go through a sequence of getting out of the car, locking the doors, wait a little bit, unlock and repeat the procedure until eventually it works Now today I got back from the gym and had to park on the opposite side of the road while i moved my van. I didn't lock the car. When i tried to start it It would not (as described in the first paragraph) I went through all the usual proceedure, get out, lock, unlock in, start etc.... but this time the problem was really stubborn I thought i would just lock the car and leave it until tomorrow...... then i remembered a year or so ago I had this same problem with the car parked outsied the house. On that occasion I did leave the car until the next day and it made no difference. I remembered on that occassion I eventually did 'something' to jolt the car or something like that and then the problem cleared. So I let the car roll back a bit (I live on a slight hill) and then pulled the hndbrake to 'jolt' the car. Did this twice made no difference. Then it came to me :detective: Last time I had this stupid immobiliser issue that would not clear, I 'jolted' the car by putting it in gear, dipping the clutch, letting it roll back a yard or two then take my foot of the clutch suddenly So I tried that - and voila, I turn the key and the car started first time Now this has me thinking..... maybe this is nothing to do with the immobiliser at all and never was? Could it be something to do with the starter motor? Oh, if it is relevant I have another occasional problem, every now and then when I try to start the car it goes KCHRRRRRR (yeah spelt just like that lol) but on the second time or maybe the third it starts fine. That happened yesterday when I had just been to the hand car wash to get the car cleaned whilst simultaneously doing my bit to support the local illegal imigrant population Rich

Boot installs....... and Targa Panels eek!!
Oh heavens - guys - I was asking for sensible solutions to a problem, not an argument on what is or is not sensible/embarrassing/fashionable @Funkysi - would you find yourself embarrassed lying naked on a beach? - yet others seek out and enjoy those same activities. If they do and you don't does that make naturists wrong? Rich PS thanks to those who made helpful comments so far

Boot installs....... and Targa Panels eek!!
Well as the title says, the two seem a little incompatilbe Have any others here got around the issue of having a good looking and great sounding boot install yet still having space to stash the targa's..... without compromising on sound? If so could you share some pics and specs please I really really dont' want to put the targas on my white leather seats! :pinch: Rich

Back on the road
Oh I will, I will..... the missus would kill me if we don't get the pleasure of driving it ('you spent £xx000 on a car we never even see!!') So I need to keep the car on the road now for the summer so no more big jobs yet..... though I can still plan for the winter months :devil2:
