  1. HI guys I'm really sorry to say I won't be making it to Wollaton either  Lee did txt me at 5pm to tell me my car is now fixed and the speedo works again (in fairness he did say he would have it fixed this week) but at this time of the day on a Saturday I have no way to get to Shrewsbury now to go pick her up, I normally get a lift in the daytime. I even checked the trains but the service is crap (2hrs, 2 changes) I'm really happyto see my car back on the road again but somewhat p*ss*d off to miss yet another show because the car is so temperamental at times I have a spare pass here then, though I don't guess it's much use to anyone unless the A50 through Stoke happens to be on your route and you decide to go last minute Rich
  2. Lee Dent now has it. Although the speedo worked on the way back from the garden centre yesterday it didn't work when I started the car today nor did it work all the way to Shrewsbury Rich
  3. The seat would drive backwards but not forwards so it does have power to it. Anyways this morning I tried holding the switch on the seat in the forwards direction (no joy) while simultaneously shaking the seat violently and lo and behold it then moved forwards and it now seems to work fine. Go figure that one! I put the dash pretty much back together but I have got a problem with the left hand barnacle. The hazard flasher switch was held in place wih two long screws about 2 inch long and they unscrewed all the way out with no problem but when I tried to screw them back in they just push all the way down the plastic tubes they should screw into and will not grip at all. I know they are the right screws as they are the only long ones. So that is all hanging loose at the moment. What's gone on to cause that? It's wierd. The missus wanted to go to the garden centre this afternoon and as my van was in the garage having a new fan and fanbelt fitted I decided to take the Zed even though the speedo was not working and the steering is heavy. Anyway all the way there (about 5 miles) the speedo would not work, but when I set out back it started to work again of it's own accord and kept on working all the way home. I don't trust it though, I bet it will stop working again.
  4. Guys I got the dash clocks out but I can't see anything behind there that would look like a kph/mph converter. To be honest I feel this is getting beyond my ability to fix - I am very good with electronics but not with cars  I now hav about a zilion screws and I hope I can rememebr how it all goes back together!!! Here are some pics of what I can see from behind the clocks. This things with the green arrows are the power and switch (green/blue) for my electroflourescent dials To add to my woes I moved the drivers seat back so I could easier work on the dash and now the bloody thing wont move forward again (electric) I had this problem a few years ago as I recall but can't recall how I fixed it. I really love this Zed but sometimes it is a difficult relationship grrr
  5. Hi Ian, it's a 1993 - but I don't think it is the clock, as I have a separate digital timer/speed meter and that is reading zero as well. Also the power steering feels weird. I will get behind the clocks and see if I can find the mph converter. Looking at one on ebay it seems to be a little box with four wires - sensor in, 12v, 0V and output to speedo? At least then I can get someone to spin the speed sensor at the gearbox and see if I can read a voltage in and out of the converter. If I can't find it I will take some pics of what is behind there Rich
  6. HI guys Unfortunately I still don't have this sorted. Got the car on the ramp at the garage across the road at the moment. They took the speed sensor off for me. It doesn't look like the faulty one in the pic and I tested it on an AC volt meter as advised and I read about 1.5V AC on the terminals when it is rotated by hand. So I guess that means it is OK. Next thing I guess is either a bad connection or broken wire. I have a km/miles converter which is behind the clocks somewhere though i didn't fit it. I guess I am right to assume I should see a voltage there if I spin the speed sensor - anyone know which wire is the one coming from the sensor or what a km/mph converter actually looks like? Thanks Rich
  7. Sorry guys but it's bad news on this one - I was too late with the entries and missed the boat. Wouldn't have happened if the previous organisers hadn't sold the show to another company as they were sending me entry forms automatically On the good news side of things I got my exhibitor pass for Wollaton so I will see you all soon
  8. Mine was posted yesterday with my fiver included - normal first class lol So it looks like I wil be on the attendees list Sounds like a good meet Rich
  9. OK that's enough of us - Iwill send for the passes after the weekend, however more than four would be good... anyone else?
  10. Oh I just realised Trentham show has now changed organisers. The price is still the same at £3.50 per car but you now only have two persons per car - additional persons have to pay full admission. We actually only need four cars for a club stand and I do indeed need to move quickly to get it booked.
  11. Right guys that should help :) I didn't fit the aftermarket KM/MIles converter as it was already fitted when I got the car Sounds like the problem described above, or maybe a dodgy wiring connection Cheers
  12. Ooh nice - that's half the cars we need already I am going to Gran Canaria next Monday so if we could get a few more volunteers I will get the passes ordered before I go Cheers
  13. I printed out the entry form and will post it this morning. So hopefully I should be there :) Rich
  14. Cheers Gaz Life has taken me on a bit of a roller-coaster ride this last year or so but I am still alive and Zedding lol Rich
  15. Hi guys I have a small problem with the Zed again - the speedo stopped working (after no warning of an impending problem it became intermittent for a day then just seems to have given up) It just reads zero all the time now and this is messing up the power sterring too. I know there is a possible issue with a bad soldered joint inside the speedo but what has me wondering whether that is the problem is because I also have a separate aftermarket digital speed meter/timer and that has stopped working as well. I think the problem is more likely with the speed sensor and/or km to miles converter but have no idea where to even look for either of those Any advice? Cheers Rich
  16. Hi guys n girls Trentham gardens car show is on 19th June this year I am back on the road and wondered if anyone would like to come along to the Trentham show again this year We need six cars minimum for a club stand price £3.50 for exhibitors with up to 2 adults and 2 kids per car It would be nice to catch up with some of you I will be away from 2nd May for one week so could do with sorting this beforehand if possible Cheers Rich
  17. HI Ceejay If you have any spare passes for thiss how then I would able to come along as my car is on the road again. Or do I just pay directly? Cheers Rich
  18. Thanks guys - the garage are going to fit a couple of Fuel line clips rather than the Jubilee clips that are currently fitted.
  19. Oops forgot the arrow
  20. Hi guys - my car is across the local garage, Istarted it up and could immediately smell petrol very strongly They had a look at it and I have a bad fuel leak, it's spraying out from the high pressure fuel rail What they wanted to know (and I don't know the answer) is should there be this little rubber pipe clamped on with jubilee clips (see pics) or is the fuel rail supposed to be all metal piping. The petrol is spraying out from where the arrow is pointing. They say they could just tighten up the jubilee clip but are a bit loath to undertake the job if this rubber pipe is a modification/prvious repair as they say they would be responsible if the leak returns and something bad happens Cheers Rich
  21. Cheers for that :) I ordered one Rich
  22. Oh just to mention - the fluid wasn't on the floor as I posted, it was on the road under where the car was parked
  23. Hi guys Last week I went to drive my Zed (been running it about once a week or so) and thought I could smell petorl when i started it. Once I moved the car a few metres I could see some liquid on the floor but it looked more oily than petrol Anyway the car is across the local garage and they say the clutch slave cylinder is leaking badly I had a look on ebay and can find a variety of prices, from used original ones in 'good condition' from Banzai Breakers for £20 to new ones for about £45 but I am also finding these ones which say they fit the car TRW Clutch Slave Cylinder Nissan Terrano II 2.7 TD TDi 4WD 3.0 Di 4WD OE Spec http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRW-Clutch-Slave-Cylinder-Nissan-Terrano-II-2-7-TD-TDi-4WD-3-0-Di-4WD-OE-Spec-/131616224796?fits=Model%3A300+ZX&hash=item1ea4f0361c:g:K9cAAOSwLVZV0zhh And they are just £16.99 inc postage Can anyone advise what I should get? Cheers Rich
  24. Hi guys I'm delighted to say I am now back on the road in my Z :cool3: She's been off the road since Dec 20th last year and to be honest was running like shit for several months prior to that What finally killed her (I thought) was the piston rings failing when I went up to Blackpool to a christmas Do - but according to Lee Dent who stripped her down it was actually two pistons melted!! And to think I actually limped it all the way back from Blackpool to Stoke in that condition! Says something for the resilience of these cars I guess. Anyway I now have my original engine back in place, not the one that Noz sold me. The original engine always seemed to work better than the other one, though it had a bottom end knock which is why I swapped it out in the first place The original block has been completely rebuilt - new pistons, rings, rods, main and bottom end bearings, some pulleys and a whole raft of gaskets and other stuff too numerous to list here.......... and I am pleased to say she now runs absolutely sweet!!! I got back on the road 3rd Sept but then went over to Gran Canaria so still have not completed the 300 mile run in yet (probably only done a hundred or so) Those big GTX2860R turbos I fitted are working very well - despite being set to 10psi boost at the moment while I run the car in, and I still have the 600cc injectors and yellow jacket coil packs fitted. Next step - gonna fit a large FMIC (at least I think I will go front mount as it would look really good with the large scoop style of my front bumper IMHO - especially if anodised) and a performance radiator (I already have a good quality electric fan sitting around). This should allow the turbos to really do their job and Lee confidently tells me he can boost them to about 19-20psi which is the correct setting to make the GTX2860s work efficiently So all in all I'm happy to announce that I am back and am looking forward to lots more meets in the coming season And this car still puts a stupid grin on my face everytime I drive it Cheers Rich
  25. I'll have a look at the others i took but not sure I have much more of Grays car - others were taking pics though so there must be some Also I know Keith was taking some good closeups on the Ford Anglia on his DSLR so may be able to post them Here are a few more I have.... Rich
