Popping in to say Hi - and an update on my car.
Cheers and thanks for the nice comments To be honest for a little while I think i just got depressed about the whole situation especially as my finances have taken a bit of a hit in the lasy year It was actually Iangreenfield giving me a call today and having a good chat that finally galvanised me back into action so thanks mate for that I'm defintely gonna give here a good clean down next time the sun comes out, she's looking in a bit of a sad state sat outside for the last few months and am sure doing that will make me feel better too. It's odd sitting here typing as as guy and admit to all that the whole car situation got the better of me and I was feeling depressed, but now I realise and accept that is what happened then it's a big step to sorting it all out. Sorry also I missed the bad news about Mandy, Julie and me would have been there tomorrow if I knew earlier Gary, please don't ever lose that sig pic. It made me smile this evening. Back on the road soon 110% Rich Oh PS Gray - no she came back fine from the Blackppol Illuminations - this all went wrong just before xmas when going back up to Blackpool (by chance) and having just spent a few hundred quid a few days before to fix the reverse gear selector and a few other issues - for an Xmas do layed on by one of our suppliers in business, at there expense including the hotel room at the Urban Village

Popping in to say Hi - and an update on my car.
Hi guys I've not been on the forum for a few months as one or two of you may have noticed Basically my car has been off the road since 20th December when she let me down on the way up to a Christmas do in Blackpool (I was around Preston at the time) I did manage to get her to the hotel in Blackpool, and the next day I topped the oil back up to max and limped her all the way back down the M6 to Stoke at like 50mph on pretty much 5 and a half cylinders and trailing a hell of a lot of smoke. I think (best guess) one or more of the piston rings finally gave up on me. Since 20th Dec the car has only been started once and fired up straight away, but smoked a lot on tick-over and it smelt just like the little two stroke engine on my hedge clippers!! I'm no expert on engines but I don't think this is good sign! Needless to say she's gone nowhere. Anyway, being short of funds I will admit I got a bit depressed about the whole thing and I just left things until February and she is just gathering dust and grime outside the house at the moment :crying: Finances have picked up a bit so having decided to stop moping about it and do something positive, I have been waiting several weeks for Lee Dent (as he's busy with other members zeds) to have time to get the car collected and start on fixing her Fingers crossed I should be back in the Zed in the next month. And she will get a well needed wash. Oh I have the application forms for the Trentham Show in June here - will get something organised Rich

The fault on my car is indeed the one diagnosed by Chris and Jeff Unfortunately Nissan are quoting one MONTH to supply the part Part No: 32180-33p03 which is a bit crap really!! I could order from czp or z1 but I just wondered if anyone on here has one I could buy quicker? https://conceptzperformance.com/search.php?search=32180-33p03 Cheers Rich

Yeah I did read that - the link said it could be changed in situ unless it is seized into the gearbox Rich

Thanks Chris, Jeff The job is definitely beyond my resources then if the box needs to be dropped to get to the faulty part However I am confident this is going to be the cause of the problem Does anyone know if that part is available off the shelf in the UK? cheers Rich

We posted simultaneously there mate Thanks - though probably that job is beyond my resources - may have to ask Lee Dent Cheers Rich

OK Got it Once that nut is removed the whole whing was loose so I popped it back on once I reoved the rubber gator Can't see anything here that would stop the gearstick moving - push up into 5th selects easily, I just can't move it down past center into reverse but down into 2nd/4th is easy Rich

OK cheers The two screws under the long strip were missing on mine Anyway I got there So what am I looking at and what do I do now? Rich
-
No Going Back
possibly those screws used to be missing before the car was retrimmed as a lot of the centre console was loose Andy The radio panel is that just held in by clips as there are no visible screws - dont' want to break anything Cheers

Err what holds the trim around the gearstick in place guys? There's a big screw under the ashtray, then all the back part unclips and comes loose - but the front end where it goes up to the centre console just under the clock is solid. Do you have to get the leather trims along the sides of the gearstick off first? Thing is I am pretty sure I've had this off before when I put LED lighting in the cigarette lighter and don't recall it was a difficult thng to do at the time before the car was retrimmed and don't think I had to get the center console panel around the stereo out to do it either Rich

OK will have a look at that Actually I just realised that I did have reverse when I first drove the car as I got just around the corner and had to reverse a couple yards as the guy in front of me (in one of those pesky Corsas :tt2:) suddenly broke down on the junction at the end of my road. It was when I got to Tescos up in town about five miles away and tried to reverse into a parking space that I discovered I didn't have reverse any more So it didn't go wrong while the car was standing for a month or two, it happened while I was driving it if that makes any difference Rich

LOL fair enough guys But the Z is not a 'bubble car' and this is the help and advice forum So realistically why can't I find the reverse gear any more - as this could become quite embarrasaing on Tescos carpark because some little oink may have a 'suped up' Corsa or Saxo or some such thing that will go backwards out of a parking spot at the same approx velocity it goes forward on a motorway - but with a very loud exhaust to make it sound good.... err I mean sound silly... while it is doing it. But I will look even more silly pushing my car out of the parking spot - or rather getting the Mrs to push it as I have to steer. It would be even worse on Waitrose car park, but that will not be a problem as we don't have any such shop anywhere in North Staffordshire because (as was on front page of the local paper some while back) Waitrose say the residents of Stoke On Trent are not sufficiently 'up market enough' to open a store here, especially the ones who drive Saxos and Corsas - which is most of them! But back to the problem in hand, it was there last month (the reverse gear that is) so it can't have gone far surely...... Rich

Thanks Gary With some help from here I am sure I can find my missing gear..... Doubt it would be stray rodents lol - we have several felines so they don't come around here unless already dead! :scared:

Hi guys I've not been around for the last couple months as my car has been garaged most that time and I have been working on a new business venture which has taken up a lot of my time Anyway - I decided to give the Zed a run today as it has not moved for at least four weeks, and the sun was out, so why not. She's started first time and is running fine, all was good - until I tried to reverse..... and found I no longer seem to have a reverse gear anymore!! By this I mean there only appear to be five gears to select on the box now, where reverse usually is the stick just won't move that way at all There are no noises coming out of the gearbox, the car drives fine (going forwards) and the clutch feels fine Any ideas? Rich

Honestly Mandy the traffic was dreadful this year - enough so to force a rethink if we do this again next time! I take full personal responsibility for you not being in the convoy when we left the hotel. Ian was up front and I was in the centre. I had said to you to move your car out so you don't end up at the back, and thought you had But it is no excuse. We pulled over for a minute at the Petrol Station before leaving and all it would have taken is for me to step out and count the cars. Or for another matter I should have been the last off the hotel car park and at the back of the convoy SO this total cockup for which I sincerly apologise has at least caused Ian and myself to have a good talk last night about how to make sure it does not happen to anyone again. Including ideas such that: everyone gets the mobile phone number of the convoy leader before we leave we have a group chat first so everyone knows where we are going we make a predicision who is going to be at the back of the convoy Ian and me are talking about getting a cheap set of walkie talkies (can get four handset ones) such that the leader, last car and SOME of cars inbetween get one each and personally I am all for making that happen, In fact it could add a fun dimension to next years meets if we all had one! Sorry that I never had any experience of organsing this sort of thing before, and doubt Ian had either until this club made us REOOs so it's a big suprise really something didn't go wrong before! But now it has happened the best thing we can do is learn from it. Like Ian said the traffic really was awful this year and only two of us out of seven completed the whole trip taking around four hours! Julie and me needed a bottle of Red wine when we got back!! On the plus side dispite the traffic a numb butt and a dead clutch leg it was good fun once again. Best quotes of the evening froom passers by: Your car is beautiful Whoa that car is sick! Julie particularly liked the eloquence of the next ones description of our car, near the north peir 'Cool as f#ck'!!! And my favourite overheard comment (courtesy of Ian) 'Wow, what is it Dad?......... 'Those are Supras son'':lol::lol: Rich

That is the Plan Gray, having gained a bit of experience from last year - will discuss it with you tomorrow evening :) And yes like you say, for anyone who enjoys seeing and being seen this is without doubt THE the place to do it!!! Plenty of car clubs willl be on 'the run' again this weekend no doubt - last year we came across the scooby club and focus club but to name a few. However we really should be making the loudest noise this year! So come on, the weather is forecast good and the lights will be bright. What more would you want? Rich

My first 300zx
It's possible to change the heater core without removing the dash. In fact my car is over at Lee Dent's in Shrewbury right now to have that job done. Gonna go pick it up in an hour And you are in Birmingham, so not a million miles away - you can find Lee Dent's profile on here Rich

everyday setup
I've got some Eibach's in the shed that I took off my car when I fitted the Meister Zeta-R (and the tensioner arms with polybushes because I fitted adjustable ones) The rear ones had broken springs but the front ones are good and not very old and could be yours cheap If you're interested........
