What steel wheels fit
Go look on Retro Rides. There're guys on there who'll band steel wheels for you, properly. All you need to do is find the right PCD/diameter wheels and they'll band them out to whatever you want. How about banding a set of spacesaver spare wheels? Might not do a lot for brake performance though! :-/

What Alloy is this ?
The JWL marking's a standard thing. I can't remember exactly what it's for but many alloy wheels have that mark and not just for Japanese or Zed wheels. It's some sort of 'kitemark' I think. ETA:- Beaten to it. Didn't read the last post! DUH!

What steel wheels fit
I think old skool Jag'/Chevy PCD is about the same, you might try that for your ebay search. ETA:- How about these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jaguar-Chevy-Cragar-SS-Wheels-and-Tyres-/140552570600?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item20b99606e8 Not sure if they're steel though. (ETA:- They're only 14" so most likely won't fit over your brakes!! :( ) HTH.

Permanent removal of expansion tank
Interesting thread. Mainly because I've found my coolant system pressurising and was told my CHG was in working order. I also found that the pipe to my expansion tank was blocked and the tank itself broken. So I bodged a plastic water bottle with a hose into it and put it in place. So far, no more presurised coolant sytem!

She lives! She lives!
It sounds like a plan!! ;) Has your car been on the road at all recently? It's just that my Boy reckonned he saw a black Zed in Cairneyhill a wee while ago.

Knockhill Picture thread
LMAO! Two are posing, one is like a dog with two tails and the other has a very daunted look on their face. I'll leave you to figure out which one's are which!!

Knockhill Picture thread
Hey Del, (I think!), Sandy said you had a TT engine that you might consider parting with. Would that be right? If so, what sort of shape's it in?
-
Knockhill Picture thread
Nope. I tried but it didn't work so I cut the wires and put it back to original so while it read in Ks it worked perfectly. I'll try it again at some point, but when the speedo you fitted started working it was fine, it just needs the soldering attended to on the back of the unit. It was the temp' guage that failed completely which, in my situation is rather crucial. BTW, just out of idle interest, whos IT do you manage?
-
Knockhill Picture thread
Hey Lee, Would you believe that all the clocks worked apart from the Speedo and the temp' guage?!!?!? Granted the speedo kicked in halfway home so it would seem it needs the soldering attended to but I can't submit my car for a diagnostic on the cooling system with a busted temp' guage so I had to swap 'em back when I got home. :( Sorry your hard work was in vain but thanks anyway. Oh, and I've decided against the wings mate, sorry but having seen them they're not my cup o' tea. Real nice to meet you lot today, thanks for your hospitality! ;)

Remeber That Bad Snow We Had In Feb? :-)
Hmmm, I wonder what they'd look like as a shooting brake? I never saw my Zed in the snow as it was in Surrey and I was at home at the time. The battery threw its toys out though and the alarm caused the babysitter lots of problems until it went completely flat.

the Auto box
It may be that the failure point isn't as monumental as the general concensus feels. Autos are a real 'black art' to many, but in fact hey're actually quite a simple concept. I went to an auto' transmission specialist in Leighton Buzzard once with a Senator 24v auto, (Vx dealer in Luton didn't even know what a Senator was but that's another story!!) expecting a huge bill. The receptionist who I spoke to beforehand diagnosed the fault from what I told her and they hauled the guts out of it, tested then repaired the offending solenoid before knocking it back together in under three hours and the most expensive thing was the fluid! It wasn't cheap, but beat the sh!t out of the price of a recon' box. Worth a nose IMO. They might just need the bands tightening to get another 100k out of them!

knockhill next weekend
I live about 5 miles East of Kincardine Bridge. Could be an option for me. BTW guys, just FYI, but plod around these parts are known for being a little 'trigger happy' with their speed guns when there's an event on at Knockhill so take it easy from about 5 miles out hhmmmkay.

Are we still good for 0745 at Baxters near Kelty?

TT's have LSD's right?
Jack the back end up, (safely!), and turn the propshaft by hand. If both the wheels turn the same direction, (i.e. forwards or backwards), at the same rate then it's an LSD. The old test was to turn one of the wheels when the rear of the car was elevated, (ie Posidrives of Yank GM cars), and they should both turn the same way but many more modern ones, ('90 onwards), don't do that for some reason, they'll turn the opposite way. Don't know why, I guess they're a different type of LSD, but the above test should confirm. Or you could try leaving a set of 11s on some gravel or slippery surface, that sounds much more like fun!! ETA :- Sniff the oil. Hypoid gear oil stinks to high heaven and doesn't wash out for a week! Spoken from personal experience!

knockhill next weekend
Well, my car's protesting, (Just after a renewed my insurance for the year and got my goodies in the post too!!), but I think it'll make the short trip up there. I might arrive in a huge cloud of steam though!! :-/

Anyone know about these in Nottingham?
My colleague at the next desk in work lives in Nottingham and knows of my partiality to Z32s. He said 'you'd love this place' and 'Streetviewed' me this....... Anyone know anything about it?

knockhill next weekend
I'm good to go. (Dunno about the car mind!! LOL!) Baxters at the Kelty junction's good for me. Unless there's any change I'll see you there at 0745. WRT the list of 'stuff', I don't think it's worth me advertising the bodges and sticking plasters used on mine. I think I'll take some tools and set about fitting the bits and bobs I've been meaning to do for a while but haven't had time. And maybe some metal polish for my rims........
-
dont you just love rust!!!!
Looks good, but did you 'fill' in the seam between the wing and the sill?!?!?!?
-
Feel so lucky! Found something by pure accident
I like that! Good job fella!

Squeaky Brakes
Mine has started doing this recently too, but I put it down to the recent dry weather and the road I live on is gravel/aggregate. I reckon I have grit stuck between the pad and disk and it'll 'wear out' eventually.
