  1. Looks like my car. Only I wasn't in the area and mine's older. You must have a left hand drive car then huh? Bad lane discipline on the part of the Zed driver too!! Tut-tut!
  2. Thought that might be a possibility. Would have thought it'd've been evident on over-run too though. If it was a turbo seal, when would that show up?
  3. Barely noticeable in all fairness and it cleared once the car was driven. I think the oil level's a bit high, could that cause it? Thanks (again) in advance. (Sorry for being paranoid!!)
  4. Thanks guys. That's kind'a what I thought tbh but I just wanted it confirmed. I agree with the OD point. Actually, when pottering around town I usually switch it off as it tends to be a little undecisive as to what gear it wants to be in. My Supra was the same.
  5. I've had many automatic cars and many of them have had 'sports' mode on the gearbox. What I could do with knowing is what the difference between 'Hold' and 'Power' is. I have assumed that 'Power' is effectively the sports mode as it engages at kickdown/full throttle but in the absence of an owners manual I can't figure out 'Hold'. Thanks in advance.
  6. So far, so good!! ;)
  7. I have absolutely no doubt it is! I've been subscribed to the Autobahnstormers for about 8 years now. Worth every penny IMO and I'm sure this is the same. ;) Shall have a look the morrow.
  8. Aha! Thank you both!! I must look into subscription! ;)
  9. Hi, I tried to PM you, but I couldn't figure out how, sorry. Anyway, I've been told that you're the man to speak to regarding fettlement of my recently acquired TT. I'm quite handy with a spanner myself, but I only work in Bristol during the week so all I have with me is a 19' socket and a multitool so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage to do any work myself!! If you're ammenable, I could use the cambelt changed a service and a couple of other odds and ends doing. Let me know if you can and/or want to help me out. Thanks in advance. Rod.
  10. A hammer and a very large shoehorn should see you alright!! TBH, within reason you can fit pretty much any engine in pretty much any car. Have you read about/seen Charlie Broomfield's 27 litre Rover SD1 or that Mini with a transveresly mounted Rover V8? Just depends on how much effort you want to put into it. In all seriousness though, I should think a RV8 should fit without too much of a problem, but if memory serves me correctly, I think the RV8 is a 90 degree 'V' which effectively makes it a bit wider but not as tall as say a 75 degree 'V'. Might be worth doing a bit of homework on the dimensions. Get the tape measure out first!! ;)
  11. That makes sense given their position on the exhaust 'system'. The cats are still there, (although I have no idea whether they still have anything inside them or not!). I did think 'temperature' as they were on the trailing end of the cat, so figured they might not be of much use, but they do resemble lambda sensors. The car's been to Jeff at Zedworld for a replacement gearbox fairly recently so figured that the 'snipping' of the cables was nothing to be overly concerned about considering the exhaust would have to come out/off to gain access.
  12. Not from me! I've owned............ -1977 6.6 Litre Trans Am. (Complete shed. Drove it for a while then it was broken halfway through resto' as it wasn't worth it after all!!) -1976 4.0 Litre Firebird Esprit. (Bought for spares for the previous T/A. Drove it for a bit then stripped it to it's last nut and bolt for the bits I needed and sold the spares at a profit!! :) ) -1979 4.9 Litre Turbo Trans Am. Indy 500 Pace car Ltd Ed. (My first proper introduction to T-Tops. Totaly outrageous and great fun but pitifully slow. Had an appetite for engines.) -1970 5.7 Litre Bullnose Firebird Esprit with T/A kit. (OK, I bought it as a project and didn't have the funds at the time so swapped it for a........) -1973 5.7 Litre Mercury Cougar. (Rough as a badger's ar5e and came with a very fettled engine and drum brakes all round. you had to make an appointment to stop!! Great fun though until it consumed one of it's pistons. Sold my house halfway through rebuilding the engine so had to get rid. It's still running around central Scotland somewhere.
  13. I spied a red n/a outside the little Tescos in Bradley Stoke about a week or so before I bought mine. Had a chat with the guy and he'd literally just bought it out of town so might not have been the one you've seen. I must admit though, particularly from my aspect of being a transient, Bristol seems to be the hub of all things automotive, (with the possible exception of Nottingham being the hub or all things Omega/Senator/Carlton/Monza related!). I've spotted a smorgasbord of automotive porn in and around Brizzle. Even the guy that sits across the office from me has a Datsun 240Z. (Very nice it is too!!) One of the blokes that drinks in my local down here owns a garage specialising in Austin Healeys, he's got a Holden HSV himself and has shown up at the pub in a RHD 2007 model Mustang. I find it very entertaining! :)
  14. Yeah, I reckon it could be something like that. What was disturbing is that it seemed to be connected to engine speed. As I say, (unless it's the torque converter working it's way loose!!), I'm not so worried about it any more.
  15. The car seems smooth enough TBH, but then I have little frame of reference. It does tend to idle a bit high, (circa 850k), sometimes compared with the V6 Frontera and my last MV6 Omega, (circa 600 with a/c turned off), but figured that was normal. Conzult machine?!?!? Is that a particular typre of diag' tool or a software package I can run on my lappy? Talk to me!! ;)
  16. Thanks for the replies guys. Had it up on the ramps this afternoon and other than a split steering rack boot and a saggy belly plate, all seems to be in order. The front wheel alignment was out by a country mile so that's fixed and the car sat idling away to itself without leaking anything, ejecting smoke or making any undue noises so my concerns about the bottom end have abated. I do have another question though. The car has a 'cat' back' exhaust system fitted so the cats are still in place. My query is that, there are what appear to be two sensors bolted into the trailing end of the cats which, had I not had experience with other marques, I would have thought were lambda sensors. I'm used to big engined Vauxhalls and the lambda sensors on them have been close to the downpipe/collectors ahead of the cats. (It's just dawned on me since writing this that as it's turbocharged then I guess it won't have collectors as such huh?!?!? :headvswal ) So are they lambda sensors or something else? Also, the wires were chopped. Is this an issue? If they were lambdas, I would've expected some sort of warning to appear on the dash. Many thanks in advance.
  17. No, it's a Heather Millsomatic. Come to think of it, I don't recall hearing it while it's 'in gear'. Must test this thoroughly, but it won't be till Tuesday morning as I'm off home for the weekend. As I say, my first thought was that of doom, but I'm not so sure it is the bottom end. We'll see. Thanks for the replies guys.
  18. Thanks, but I'm pretty sure it's not the tappets. Definitely can't hear it from listening under the bonnet. The car had a flush and oil change about 9 months/3000 km ago.
  19. Having just bought my first Zed, I'm very happy with it. (Except I've just wrecked two of my tyres from having been a tool and bouncing it into a kerb but that's another story. ) Anyway, I hadn't noticed it before, but at idle there seems to be a very feint tapping noise coming from behind the dash. My heart sunk as I immediately thought, 'bottom end', but I can't hear it from under the bonnet. It is almost unnoticeable and I can't really hear it any better from under the car either. Any of you guys got any idea what it might be? (Please let it be something other than my engine!! :crying: )
  20. *Makes mental note to have a shufty under the bonnet before I go to the airport tonight!!*
  21. Thanks again! you're a nice friendly bunch intchya!?!?! Bought it in Rugby on Tuesday night and drove it to Bristol. It's got a reciept for a new gearbox from ZedWorld. Can anyone tell me if Jeff keeps records of the cars he's had through his door? I'm wondering if it's worth checking to find out any more history as I hardly got any with the car.
  22. Thanks guys. Yes it is quite tidy on the outside with the exception of a small dent in the rear n/s quarter and the drivers door dropping a bit on it's hinges. Plans? Initially to get the interior sorted and just be happy that it's going to be reliable as this will be my, (most), daily driver and I need to be confident that it'll make the 400 mile trip home if needs be, (and back again!!). I just spent two hours fitting a stereo that should've been a plug and play but tidying up the wiring from previous 'installs' was a challenge. I'll be a frequent vistor. I'll go and have a look at that ASG list thingy.
  23. Thank you! It's not bad. Body wise it's good except a small dent on the rear near side corner and the driver's door drops a little on it's hinges and mechanically it seems sound having had a new gearbox last year. It just needs some cosmetics doing. The driver's seat bolster is worn through and some of the interior trim has seen better days, some of the switchgear is either tempramental or the backlight is blown and the sound insallation is gash so that's getting ripped out PDQ. Looking forward to it. (I'm dreading taking it out on wet roads mind!!)
  24. Hi, thanks for that. I guess I'll be getting my friendly local grease monkey to do that then huh?!?! Anyway, I live in Scotland but work in Bristol through the week. I'll keep my eyes open for Zed related things to do of a weekday evening. Any guys on here fancy doing my cambelt one evening?
  25. Hi all! Having hankered after a 'Z' for a looooong time, I decided it was time to treat myself and bought this last night.............. Now, I'm no stranger to cars with over average performance, but HOLY MOLY!! I wasn't expecting THAT!! Anyway, while it seems to be mechanically sound, it'll need some cosmetic TLC and even though the previous owner said the timing belt had been done within the past two years, he had no proof so, I'll attend to that before very long. Is that a job I could do myself, (I'm fairly handy at wielding a spanner), or should I farm it out? I have one more question for now. (I'm sure there'll be many more to come!!), The oil pressure seems to be quite, (very!), low on idle once it's warmed up. Is this normal? If not, is it likely to be a sticky sensor/guage or something more sinister? Cheers for now, Rod.
