  1. That is a very fair point Dave, and one that I failed to digest from the original post. Sorry Sparky, you asked the question and you got your answers!! Still your car though!! ;) Good luck with the buggy though!! ;)
  2. Hey Sparky, I'm very much of the opinion that it's your car so your rules so screw what anyone else says. When I was shopping for my Zed, I happened across quite a few that, because of the state of the paintwork, I would have considered painting satin black with rattle cans, (I like satin black paint on cars generally!), but didn't think a Zed would suit it, and to be honest, I don't think I could've been able to bear driving a matte black car in the weather we've been having recently. I say do what you want with it. You will encounter derision from somewhere, but what the hell. If you're happy with it then that's what counts. I'm always interested to see/hear what others are doing with their cars. I might not like it and/or I might not see the point in it, but I try not to be judgemental. FWIW, there was a guy on here recently who was intent on turning a Z32 into a pick up. Now that's quite extreme in my eyes, but he got quite a lot of encouragement from a few on here, (including myself!), so it's entirely up to YOU what YOU want to do with YOUR car. Don't listen to anyone else or seek acceptance. Everyone's different. Makes for an interesting world. JM2PW. ETA, If you haven't already, get yourself over to Retro Rides I think you'll like it there.
  3. Good call chap, thanks!! Gonna get a spiggot ring next week then get Jeff to have a look at the rest of it on Friday. TBH, it's not killing me, but I like a smooth motrway journey. I'll get to the bottom of it eventually I'm sure, I'll keep the thread updated.
  4. So for a JDM TT I should be using higher octane yes?
  5. Yeah, we could do that, or there's another hotel called the Aztec Spa which is 'slightly' more conspicuous on the main roundabout just off the M5, but I was thinking more about meeting at services further up the M5 to save you going out of your way too much. I'm happy either way bud', whatever's easiest for yourself.
  6. Info on the bold por favor!! ;)
  7. Although the idea of drifting/skidding/burnouts has always fascinated me, I've never been compelled to push a car beyond the limits of where it all hangs together. Call me a pussy, but I get as much enjoyment out of driving my car within the limits of adhesion. I have exceeded it once or twice but that's invariably ended up with damage/embarrasment/a talking to. I was taught to drive defensively by an ex-rozzer traffic instructor. Their rule of thumb is if it's not necessary then don't do it, and that includes switching things on and off, changing gear and losing traction. The best way to make progress and to reduce running costs is to maintain traction. It made sense to me and doesn't scare passengers. But then I don't have money to burn on cars and I love mine so far so I want it to stay good. Each to their own though. If it's your bag then why the hell not!! I'm off to drop a piano on a Marina!! Ciao!!
  8. Yeah, been down the same road myself once or twice. (The second time the wheels were so buckled I scrapped them! Shame, they were nice too. I'd even had them refurbished 'cos I thought that meant unbuckling them. :-/ ) Being Scottish, I like your ethics!! [my bold] ;)
  9. And there's the magic number right there!! [in bold] Thank you very much indeed!! (Saves me getting the jack out!! ;) ) A set will be ordered the morrow.
  10. Surely they're not all the same. Don't they have to be specific to the wheel/car combo? ETA:- Scratch that, I found some. I just need to measure the hub on my wheel now. Thanks.
  11. If you don't mind that is. I'm admiring the look of the wheels you have on your car in your signature. The one thing I don't like on my buggy is that the wheels/tyres don't fill the arches properly so I'm considering a new set of feet. Yours is just about bob on in my eyes so can you tell me what dimensions your combo is please? Wheels - Diameter/width/offset Tyres - Width/wall depth. As always, thanks in advance.
  12. It's a place near the Oldbury Power Station called 'Miles Tyres'. They really instilled a lot of confidence in me. The car was in there about an hour, they were very particular with the wheels, because my problem was vibration they had a look round and identified play in one of the rear track rods and found one of the brake pad retaining pins to be loose so they fixed that too. (fixed with nothing more than an 'R' clip but I was very glad he noticed it!) The guy was taking notes as he went round the car as a check list and ticked everything off when it was attended to and cross checked with his colleague. Just really really enthusiastic and professional. Cost...................£20.60. They were insistant that I go back if I had any trouble. They specialise in tyres and exhausts, but I'd be inclined to approach them for other work too if it came to it, particularly if I'm going to have to have a HICAS rod replaced.
  13. Shows up about 65 - 75 and comes and goes a bit if that makes sense. It doesn't get worse with braking so I'm fairly sure it's not the front end. TBH, it does feel like it's coming from the centre of the car which is why I was thinking about the prop bearing, (I had a Senator and that exhibited similar symptoms and that's what it was.)
  14. Ouch, that's quite a list!! However, while he was going over it he did point out that there was a noticeable amount of play in the rear off side inner track rod end. I'm quite sure the wheels aren't buckled although one is missin a spigot ring, but the guy did his best to line it up and gave it a spin to check it so I'm quite happy they're running true. I'm off up to Tamworth next Friday, I'll get Jeff to have a shufty. Thanks guys!!
  15. Since I've had the car it's vibrated noticeably on the motorway. Nothing to do with the road surface. I've just had my wheels balanced at a place that came recommended to me and I have to say, meticulous isn't the word. What a place, and what a nice bunch of guys!! Thy even gave the suspension and brakes a bit of a health check while they were at it and it was dirt cheap too. They even do 4 way alignment if anyone's interested in the Bristol area. (Turns out my car has HICAS. Didn't know that!! DOH!) Anyway, to my point. The vibration, while much better, is still there. Any of you guys got any thoughts on what else it might be? I was thinking prop' bearing but I dunno tbh. Thanks in advance.
  16. I'm 41 and my Zed is my 'mid life crisis' present to myself. I have........... '89 Z32 LWB TT. (Daily) '94 Volvo 440 1.8i. (Airport snotter. It really is the shittiest of cars, but it starts on the button every time.) '99 VW Sharan VR6. (Family bus. It's not slow either!) I also have two Opel Monzas at home in my garage in various states of disrepair. I plan to build a track car out of one of them using the ex-works engine I acquired.)
  17. Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Although the guy I bought it off swears the belt was done just before he bought it 2 years ago the all important piece of paper wasn't present. I wanted to have it done sooner, but next Friday was the first time I could fit it in. I think the cambelt job is about £285 at Zedworld, but you'll need to book an appointment. Check the website out, http://www.zedworld.co.uk there's a list of prices for common jobs on the Z32s. Alternatively, there's a mechanic who's a member here who's user name is Jimmer. He's local to Bristol. Send him a PM, (You'll need to subscribe to do that), and see if he can help out. I'm loving getting the roof off in this weather. Much of the time the roof only goes on if I'm leaving it overnight! I'll keep an eye out for you!! ;) PS, if you fancy a turbo, have a look through the Z related chat forum. There's a bloke on there has had an aftermarket turbo system fitted to his car which increases the power to 350 BHP if I understood it correctly.
  18. Pic's here........... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=138947 It's not perfect, but I picked it up for £2k and other than a few niggles I think it's a good 'un. I've been making the most of the good weather and getting the top off at every opportunity. So am I right in saying I saw yours for sale a couple of weeks ago? Cheers, Rod. ETA, if you're thinking on getting the cambelt done, see if you can get it booked into Zedworld on the 2nd July. Me and a member from Wales are planning a little convoy up the M5 to Tamworth on the Friday morning. ;)
  19. Well, if I'm reading KPH then it might work out!! LOL!!
  20. Well, that's just dandy!! I'm thinking setting the cruise to 80ish.
  21. Cool! As I don't know the area very well, do you want to propose a time and a place to meet up? Motorway services or something. I'll be coming from Tockington/Thornbury area. Just to say, I'm not planning a 'gung ho' run up the road. I'm a little nervous about the state of my cambelt having not long bought the car and don't want to grenade the engine on the way there. And at the time of writing mine's still limited. :blushing: PM me the details and your number!!
  22. Actually, yeah!! Me!! Taking mine for cambelt and a few other odds and ends. I'll be leaving the north side of Bristol about 6 - 630 to head up the M5 with a view to get there for 8ish. Fancy a convoy(ette)?
  23. Needle sits at 20 with the engine running. Goes to '0' when the ignition is switched off. Rev counter didn't even twitch turning the engine on or off. Will look for the destructions! ;) Thank you.
