Following Andrews advice I went for a dig in the shed and found an old rear light harness. Just one sadly, cut the indicatior off as a pig tail and test fitted. Ok it wasn't a perfect fit on the plug but it worked and more importantly the indicator now fits. You only gain a few MM but it's enough, as you can see it's a shallower fitting. To get round the lack of indicator lamp holders I disassembled a brake/tail light one and switched the original single pole internals. So all that was left to do was solder the bulb holder to the plugs. I opted to solder as apposed to crimp to allow some flexibility to be retained. Some heat shrink to insulate and black tape for belt and braces later were done.

Indeed there are 100 reasons why people do these kind of jobs. I've met some incredibly intelligent people who simply don't want the rat race anymore, need flexible hours for care or simply cannot find work in thier field at present. I used to know a banker that had a break down at 30 and had to "retire" he does a part time bar job for something to do. Also we all have to do shit jobs at some point, I'd rather work than claim benefits and if you get made redundant these days a new job isn't instant, especially a good job. I worked nights stacking shelves and the lunch shift in a restaurant doing about 80 hours a week with no days off a few years back now. I'd been made redundant and needed cash to clear debt acquired from that. People in low paid jobs may actually be smarter and wealthier than the people who look down on them but most importantly they are working which is a damn site better than many in society these days.

This I believe is not a unique experience. There's some hubbub on them at present, apparently they have a liking for zero hour contacts and anyone who dares to stand up for themselves isn't offered any more hours.

I believe that was only early ones and only if you did t run it up to temperature before switching off. However having had the displeasure of dealing with one myself yeah they're a pain. The fuel and oil consumption for the power is disgraceful. Is that the 230hp version or the little one?

ACL bearings are popular. There are some aftermarket cheaper brands, however factor in the effect that a cheap set of rings could have (tear down and rebuild again) it's not even worth it. The cost of replacing the HGs alone would negate your savings.

I'm not sure but that sounds about right, hopefully you will get a confirmation. However... the numbers on the block are in reference to the block in new condition, if the crank is worn then you may need to increase the bearing size to correct the gapping. Simply throwing in a set of bearing in the sizes stamped without measuring is a stab in the dark and a recipe for a spun bearing.

Could be an overlay that speedo.

Yup, I've now realised if I take the photo with the volume button down it works fine.

I think it's the same as the IACC one, that plug is common through most Nissans from that era, Almeras etc

When mine did it was because the connection plug was crap, replaced it and it's hunky dory now.

I did it in situe. Thing is I knew not to and got carried away. That whole thing was a mess, pan came off three times in the end. :lol:

Do you recon that's been easier from the inside? Looks like it makes sense and especially if your working outside a breeze can ruin your work particularly using CO2.

Brexit hasn't bumped up your battery cost Ali, gamblers have. :P More relivantly if you know someone with a trade card for Halfords thier batteries are half decent and reasonably priced. Then of corse if it fails in the warrenty period you can go shout at a spotty teenager on a Saturday and get an exchange, which is worth a few quid all by itself.

This. Don't forget the stock configuration sucks in oil vapour to combust. I wouldn't go disturbing the short block, removing pistons etc unless you need to or want to rebuild it. Be worth running the pistons up and down the bores by turning the crank and inspecting the bores.

You don't have stock turbos though do you?
