seriously disheartened now and just wanna burn the car help!
right aftertoday inspection the foloowing has come to light. a leaking pcv valve that is causing oil to drip over the left hand turbo and possibly into via the top feed. also some not fully tight spark plugs that had oil coming from the rocker cover down the shaft in very small amounts. the spark plugs were clean an amount of carbonation which is obviously to be expected. no oily deposts. the plenum had very little oil in it. the car will idle quite happily, well very happily actually, smooth as glass. with no or very little smoke. at 2000 rpm it smokes like a trooper at 3000rpm the smoke clears. hellraiser kindly made a video of this today aswel which quite cleary shows the above.

Dipstick Blown Out
yup melted piston or rings have gone probaly more likly the piston has melted after your 1.5bar of boost. shame. anywayssssss as above get yourself a good runner from a breaker then decide whether or not to rebuild the orginal block.

Dipstick Blown Out
Dont panic too quick! Compression first panic later.

Dipstick Blown Out
you need a compression tester for starts then you remove the fuel relay so the car cant start and remove the plugs, put the compression tester in the spark plugs hole. crank over and you will get a reading in psi, for that cylinder. obviously work your way along doing them in turn. they should all be equal i cant remember off hand what a good reading is but damn you will notice a bad one. you can also look at the plugs while they are out if they have sticky black residue youve been burning oil. black sottiness is normal just carbonation. you can also do a leak down, this involves a similar procedure but you pressurize the cylinder. and leave it to see if the pressure drops, obviously this is a slightly better way of testing because you get a longer veiw of potential leakage.

Hi all, need some info!
rods wise fine mate, i get my barbel and match rods in there fine. however i struggle more with the access these cars dont do gravel tracks well. i had an auto but i converted to manual the auto boxes are a little delicate and really do take some of the driving pleasure away. they do however make the car a very comfortable cruiser. where abouts are you located?

Dipstick Blown Out
i agree with mark i just didnt want to be the one to say it. time for a compression test at least preferably a leak down. even if only to isolate the worst from your mind.

Opinion on z
you can put more through stock internals but depending on the engine condition bear in mind the age, its life expectancy could dwindle significantly.

valve steam seal replacement
leakdown test is on the cards to rule out rings but as you say i recon its tub related. pcv seem a cheap logical service item to do in any event. as you know though im just tryiong to cover the bases. - - - Updated - - - i take it valve stem seal failure on these engines is not a common common thing...

price guide for a manual tt prop shaft
what is a fair price for a manual tt prop shaft complete with a half decent centre bearing. i found one on ebay for £170 that seems a tad steep to me.

valve steam seal replacement
lol yeah it however isnt lol. if it was a crossflow or pinto engined car i would of ripped the car apart and rebuilt it twice over. honest lol.

valve steam seal replacement
ive had a problem with smoking ive got a thread running on the subject, im fairly sure its the rear tub seals but i wanted to eliminate other causes first before i went about pulling the block or anything drastic. im going to do the pcvs as a matter of corse. but i was wondering after last night if its a valve steam seal issue, id be quite happy to tackle it if needs be but obviously if its on a par hassle wise with tub replacement, as i suspected, id want to be damn sure its them. what i need to do is work out what the issue is before progressing forward, im pulling the plugs to check the state of them oil fouled etc this weekend. worse comes to worst jeff would you be able to provide me with a quote for diagnosis? the mot run sout in september so if its a majour failure rings or tub failure il take the car off teh road over winter to pull it apart.

valve steam seal replacement
is this job possible with the heads still on the block, when ive done the job previously on other cars the head has had to come off to clamp the valve and spring to remove the locating piece. but im aware with teh correct tool on some cars its possible without such in depth issues. however if the cam has to come out, the head may aswel really i suppose. just curious really.

thats not strictly true though is it. although a good guide. pcv's can jam introducing oil into the combustion cycle, causing blue smoke. oil can be deposited post combustion via turbo oil seals causing oil vapour which is a whitish blue colour. raw fuel can be dumped into the combuston chamber causing again white smoke. so not golden. i am going to do a compression/leakdown however to be sure. i did do it about 5k ago and all was well.

What to do sell or break?

right had hellraiser round tonight we let it warm up and took it for a spin. at idle it barley smokes, first few boosts produce smoke and its actually a pale grey blue and heavy of oil smell. under general load it again barely smokes, it seems worst on low level rev overrun(high revs are fine) and when pulling away from a slow down at town speeds. we even gave it a good blipping when stationary and warm which produced very little. this keeping pointing out turbo and no turbo related syptoms. any ideas guys?

overheating na
let me know if it works bud i hope it does. you could do with hooking up conzult or datascan to see the actual ecu temp value rather than the dash mounted gauge.
-
How do I stop the dashboard peeling?
glue on the underside of the vent then use tennis balls to push the peeled up back down.
