No. If you don't have the 89 spoiler, the little flat one that's moulded into the hatch then you will have the Perspex strip that mounts in. If you do have it the spoiler covers that area and even affixes there, then there's a vynal sticker that goes on the bottom to create the same lozenge effect that the strip creates.

Really, I'm shocked about that. I feel it makes the back look finished. Whenever I see the 89 spoiler without it I think it looks unfinished. It completes the lozenge shape.

I think day to day your right Andrew, you won't feel it. For me I only found it an issue on the limit and over the limit. I take what you say about it being incorporated in some high end new cars however it's my understanding that they are a bit more advanced. I hate the Ariel. It's there but inactive, I don't have a stereo anymore anyway. I may well ditch it completely. I hated hicas. Both broken and fixed I found it unnearving.
