  1. You gotta do what you gotta do, as Gaz said bricks and life. I was lucky enough to keep mine and I do mean lucky, it was a case of timing a few weeks either way and it was going to range from the sale falling through, me flogging the zed for peanuts for a quick sale or it all working out. Fortunately it worked out. Stressful times though counting every penny, I now officially hate beans on jacket potatoe, there's only so many combinations of beans you can take after 18 months.
  2. After all that happened with the red one, to finally get this one sorted and sell it. The mind boggles.
  3. Why are you removing the starter anyway? You need to start referring to the FSM Ali, it's got lots of information in there to help you do things right.
  4. There are two main retaining bolts, m10 from memory. These are located at the 12 and 6 position. You also need to remove the electrical connections, please disconnect the battery first! Then it drops down. Should take you about 5 minutes. Leave the bottom one in finger tight, that way you can use one hand to take the weight and the other to remove the bolt. Stops it failing on your face which would hurt.
  5. It looks like LSX or something similar, silicone rubber compound. Great for heating systems etc but not required for this. They probably fitted it dirty, left all the Ali oxide and crust on and wondered why it leaked, then gobbed that on to stop it, probably worked for a bit. Don't forget to test it with a hot engine, at full temp there's more pressure.
  6. SFS hoses are pretty good normally Dan. Does seem odd, sometimes silicone hoses do struggle to seal as well as rubber. I'd pop the hose off and look at the mating face, maybe it's covered is crap and oxidation. I doubt it's anything sinister.
  7. The Bandit (Burt Reynolds) drives a black and gold 77 Pontiac Firebird in the second film it's a 79. So the black and gold has become the "bandit colours" a bit like the general lee being orange. So for it to be a bandit version it must be black and gold. If it's not black and gold it's just a trans am which is the higher spec version of a firebird.
  8. There's a reason for that Ali. I'm guessing you haven't seen the films?
  9. I don't know tbh mate. They asked for the year, then came out a bit confused as it was listed as 2004 which I explained was the year of import. Seems correct to the settings I found previously.
  10. Lol cheers Si. The bonnet needs a respray though, the paint I applied last summer blew over winter, annoying but hey. I think I put the cover on too quick. I feel it needs a splitter. Might ditch the fogs. Pretty tempted to reinstate the nose badge as well. And the door mirror mounts might go black yet. Quite like that stock look.
  11. Glad I managed to give you your fix, what's the chances though that we'd even cross paths today.
  12. A red focus came up behind me today all excitedly, then passed thumb up. Who that, I thought. Only our very own hellraiser. I left him and thundered off through the purbecks. Pictures I hear you cry, well though I was too busy driving.
  13. Cheers Howard, I'd forgotten it could look that nice. Alignment complete. Managed to get a price ahead of £60 for front and rear, then they had a mess to sort haha! Before and after below.
  14. Cheers guys. Hopefully the day will only get better.
  15. So today I'm working this evening, the day is mine! The sun is out as well, winner! Got up nice and late and gave her her first wash this year a treated her to a fresh layer or polish and wax. And some close ups to show that shine we all lust over. Then on to the sensible stuff, checked all the fluids, double checked the torque on the wheel nuts, they've been on and off a lot recently. And checked the tyre pressures, dropped a few PSI through winter. Now I'm waiting, car in the air while the boys have it on the hunter sorting out the geometry. So far I've had three people stop me and saw what a nice car it is and a few people pointing at it as I drive along. Restores your faith is these pain in the ass dinosaurs.
  16. My mate looked at one recently, flat 6 I believe. Only ever seen one, weird, weird looking thing.
  17. You love making yourself poor don't you lol.
  18. Yeah, that makes it over £70 from Luke. I've got like £50 in my head from MJP. In fact; http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?181648-Rear-Perspex-strip-without-Brake-light&highlight=Rear+strip £42+vat. Obviously have to check that as prices can change. Fair saving though.
  19. I don't like the nose panel, too fussy. Love the rest of the front though. The back looks good but it's a really wide, wide arch and like most it looks disbalanced, needs wider front wings to accompany it.
  20. Just leave the strip plain mate, cuts down on clutter. If you get it from MJP or the main dealer they aren't too bad. I can't remember if the non brake light version is much cheaper or not. Have a chat with Mike, I bet he gets it cheaper for you.
  21. I'm torn on that one.
  22. It's not just garages think how many times you come out a main dealer thinking, what have you actually done. I know a few years back my fathers car went in for a service, a week later it failed its MOT because oil was sloshing out the sump pan from a 1p sized hole, corroded from the inside out. How you fail to spot that whilst performing an oil and filter change is beyond me. I've heard multiple stories from dealer workers who say they just stamp the book and reset the service indication, other than than your paying to park the car up for the day. That said I dunno if anyone else has had this yet but VW now send you a video of what they have done and point out things for you, this is sent via email before you collect. Brilliant. It's not like theft Jeff, it is theft. Or I suppose really it's fraud, the offender is actually obtaining money by decieving the client. As you know I've had some horrendous service in the past on more than one occasion. A much less annoying time than that though. I remember paying for my clutch to be changed on my Capri, I just didn't have time, the garage round the corner quoted really reasonably, no brainier. I was mighty pissed off when I realised I'd lost reverse in the process because they hadn't put the shifter together properly. We're talking a really simply job here. I threw a wobbler as you can imagine. I've come home to find my wife paid £300 for some front discs, on a Kia! (I was busy at work so she just paid it) There pence to buy. The list goes on and it's one of the reasons I'm glad I know which end of the spanner is which enough to not get done these days. There is also a valid point here though that chris pointed out. People hate spending money on cars. The amount of people who buy budget tyres when premium ones were an extra £10 beggars belief. That's the bit that keeps you on the road!!! Sure if it's double and you go mid range that's fair enough but for most euro boxes it's a few quid a corner. I even see this on high end cars, 3 year old merc, 50k car something like that on tyres you've never heard of. They will pay £600 a month in finance so the Jones think they are doing well but looking after the expensive motor, hell no. If you find an honest garage stick with it because they are like gold dust these days. If your one of those people that think it's fine to run around on the same oil for five years and drive around with no tread on your tyres, I doubt you will enjoy a Z32 very long.
  23. Well done, rewarding isn't it. I did my bonnet with a gun etc last summer, sadly I didn't realise not to put the cover on too quick and it blistered. Il have another crack when the weather improves.
  24. Then I think your plan is sound and wish you luck. Sure you can't live with it temporarily?
