  1. I must admit that although in this case it's a particularly tough call... I'd probably have to agree with you.
  2. Holy bat Cowman! He's actually managed to make a 635Ci look significantly worse than it does to start off with! Absolutely remarkable.
  3. Well, I really don't like it at all, however at least it doesn't look like it was put together in somebody's shed. Clearly a lot of time and effort has gone into it and they've done a very good job. Each to their own. I'd rather somebody took the time and effort even if I don't like the finished article rather than just bolt on a poorly sprayed and ill-fitting bumper, a plywood spoiler and a dustbin exhaust.
  4. I've seen that before and it's just 100% wrong! Somebody needs to have a quiet word in that guy's ear.
  5. Now that sucks. Don't get me started on stamp duty. Kicks in at £120k and would originally have affected only larger/more expensive properties, but not any more... and have they increased the threshold to compensate? No! *And* it's on the total value of the house and not the amount above £120k. Who's idea was that exactly?!? And what's the point of it anyway? Feel for ya mate. This kind of thing doesn't help anybody trying to buy a house for the first time. I'm going through exactly the same thing at the moment so know how you feel.
  6. TBH all this was what made me vote Conservative at the last election... that and the fact that they had the thinnest manifesto of course. ;) But the whole "rewarding people for doing the right thing" idea appealed to me. No idea whether it would have worked in practice or not, but why *should* people who work hard and don't cause much aggro end up paying for all the people who don't work and/or do cause aggro?
  7. How much is he getting in benefits then?!?????? A £30k jobs gives you about £1700 per month take home pay, and it's not enough to get taxed at 40% anyway. I know he's getting his rent paid, and I realise he'll probably need to pay travel expenses or petrol, but even so. Even if he's "only" £200 a month better off that's still 6 skiing holidays worth of extra money every year (if you want to think of it in those terms). Unless he's trying to get on the property ladder he'd probably be laughing. I'll admit that around Cambridge a £30k salary + probably no savings after all that time in education = not much chance of getting a mortgage, and certainly not for a 3 bedroom place, but it's hardly the be all and end all. The reason I'm buying a place has very little to do with an inherent desire to own a house, and much more to do with having house-shared for far too long and being in danger of going out of my mind because of it. I just want to live somewhere that's in the same state when I get home in the evening as when I left in the morning: the reason I'm buying is that it costs less than rent (just about) and the fact that you end up with something to show for it at the end of the day is a bonus.
  8.   Now I really am speechless!
  9. Clearly the pause between me writing "utterly speechless" and then writing the rest of that comment doesn't quite come across on the page.
  10. ?!?? Utterly speechless. For the sake of being a "FEW hundred quid" a month better off I'd probably *change* jobs never mind get a job having been unemployed. No offence, but is he completely mad or something? Seriously, read the following and see if it doesn't sound even more insane the further you go down the list: "I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £100 per month better off." "I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £200 per month better off." "I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £300 per month better off." "I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £400 per month better off." "I can't be bothered applying as I'll only be £500 per month better off." ... I'm sure you all get the idea. Unreal. I think I need to go for a lie down after reading that. Tell me, have you burned the soles of his feet with a hot crack pipe yet?
  11. And now it's completely died... grr.
  12. I think myspace is cool, although I've really only just started using it. Only just registered so my profile is almost empty. My only beef with the site is that it's slower than continental drift. Get lots of timeouts and crap like that. They need to take a leaf from google's books methinks and just buy a shedload of commodity hardware to run the site, and if that's what they're already doing then they need to buy an awful lot more of it.
  13. Well I haven't voted because I've only had 2 cars including the zed which I don't think is really enough to give an informed opinion. My previous car was a 1998 Renault Clio. Sure enough after 70,000 miles/5 years it all started to go wrong (just like one of my mates said): - Brakes binding on. - Crankshaft angle sensor went so car wouldn't start. - Exhaust fell off on way home from work (no kidding, been blowing for about 5 days and was due to go into garage for replacement next day). - Half the dashboard failed to light up if the car hadn't been driven for a few days due to condensation. - Bits of trim snapping off left right and centre. Only real problem reliability wise with the zed was that one of the ABS relays stuck in the ON position so the pump kept running all night and drained the battery, but that was ages ago now. Mind you, mine's unmodded so can't comment on what it would be like if I started tinkering with things.
  14. With a live axle they're a lethal weapon anyway aren't they? Although I don't know if all of them have this: whether it's just the early models and the most recent one and some in the middle didn't. I actually quite like them, although I was chatting to a guy who lives nearby and has one that's around 30 years old and he reckons the build quality is awful. I imagine the latest models don't suffer from this though, just from looking at similar US cars I guess the modern versions are stylish, comfortable, and pretty well put together.
  15. I might be interested in some of that at some point. My paintwork's generally pretty good, and usually a polish makes it look fantastic, but there are a few swirl marks and other imperfections that could do with sorting out. Goes with the territory I guess. Be interested to see how well it holds up. Cheers, Bart
  16. How much is he wanting for it then? eBay's not a great place for selling that kind of car tbh. Never going to fetch a decent price on there.
  17. Well if I wasn't buying a house I'd swap my zed for that little baby without hesitation. Imagine the noise it makes!! And it's a manual, which is pretty rare for a 'vette, or at least it was when I was thinking of getting one. Do it bud, you know you want to.
  18. Quite so... although that's actually a Honda I think. But the point still stands: Coca-cola, McDonalds (I think), pimped up cars, films, music.
  19. Anyone into DnB who hasn't already discovered this site might want to take a look: http://www.dnb-sets.de/ Free downloadable mp3 DnB sets. The quality is pretty variable: some are very good, some are either a bit dull or just pretty bad. Still, worth a look and something I've found pretty invaluable recently as I've been searching for stuff to listen for whilst coding, and DnB seems to fill the bill better than most other things. Like I say, you might already know about it, but if not then enjoy. Cheers, Bart
  20. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry. ;) S'just one of those things that seems to get asked periodically. 0-60 in > 5 seconds is not supercar performance. It's really good performance, but it's not supercar performance.
  21. Just read that myself before coming on here. It really is amazing how brainless some people can be.
  22. One of my housemates just showed me this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/5335802.stm You really couldn't make it up.
  23. Eeeeeenteresting... guess he's hoping nobody calls his bluff then.
  24. Fair point there, got to admit. :)
