Around Town, Overdrive on or off?
Slightly off topic but related to fingers' post: yep you *can* get 400 miles from a tank of fuel... just drive reasonably gently. I've managed this in my car (manual TT), however you're only ever going to get that on a long motorway drive -- in normal use I've no idea what my fuel economy is, but I can tell you it's awful: must be less than 15 mpg.

Why doesnt my zed feel as fast as an M3
That said... I beat the only newish M3 that tried to race me (think it was an 04 plate), so 0 - 60 times aren't everything, but like chunk says, they've got a very impressive spec.

Why doesnt my zed feel as fast as an M3
Book 0 - 60 time for a 2004 M3 (is that the E46?) is 4.9 seconds, whereas for the TT zed it's 5.2 - 5.6 seconds depending on which model you have (SWB/LWB), so unfortunately the stock M3 *is* a faster car than the zed. Doesn't look as good though, and you can always get yourself a boost controller, and ECU upgrade for an awful lot less than buying a second hand M3 if you're that bothered.

OK, admit it, who took their targa tops off today?
The latter: 2 pairs of trousers 1 t-shirt 3 jumpers 1 thick coat 1 very warm pair of gloves 1 woolly hat Oh yeah, and I had the heater on blowing hot air at my feet. :)

Who uses there TT as a Daily Driver?
I don't use mine every day, but it's my only car so it gets a lot of use. I'd say I use it a good 4 days out of the week. It's a TT and TBH it's been fine. It needs its prop-shaft replacing (actually just the centre bearing, but Mike Feeney can get the whole shebang for such a good price I thought it would be daft not to) and a new clutch fitting, both of which I have, but that's pretty standard stuff. Only thing is of course the fuel economy is awful, which is why I try to be a bit careful about when I use it... so I don't generally drive to work in it unless I need it afterwards, or it's really foul weather (I only live a mile or two from my office, so it wouldn't do the car any good at all to be continually doing that stupid little trip). Cheers, Bart

really tidy black tt asda carpark bournemouth
I grew up down that way (Dorchester) and my parents still live there. In fact I lived in Weymouth for a year or so back in 2001 - 2002. Still like it down there but there's not too many jobs in my field, hence I ended up in Cambridge... which is definitely out of my jurisdiction.

OK, admit it, who took their targa tops off today?
It was absolutely freezing, but sunny and dry, so as far as I'm concerned those are the rules: you've got to make the best of the weather whilst you can and take them off. So come on, who else did?

My first bad experiance of ZED brakes
Just glad you're OK mate. :)

Curses - speedometer's given up the ghost.
Thanks mate... it's working again this morning, but something's definitely dodgy. If it happens again, which I'm sure it will I'll reset the trip mileage -- if that's not working I'll know for sure it's not just the speedo. Thanks for the link. I'll follow the advice there... in fact I might just bung my multimeter in the car just in case I'm away somewhere when it happens. Cheers, Bart

Curses - speedometer's given up the ghost.
Yeah, I can't complain too much -- the car's pretty reliable, it's just it always seems to do something like this when there's a billion other things going on. C'est la vie. If you're gonna own a zed you have to accept that this kind of stuff is going to happen. I just found a thread about this and might just try resoldering all my speedo connections... although I'm not yet sure if the odometers stopped working or not, so will have to take the car out for a run tomorrow to check that. Cheers, Bart

So Wrong
Oh please, not that junkyard reject again. Somebody please blow it up with a few claymores, or run over it with a tank, or something.

creaking for a while now i get a clunk!
Gaz, after the conversation I had with you the other night this is *not* very reassuring. Hope you get it sorted mate. Let us know what the problem is once you've found it. Great cars... but there's always something.

Curses - speedometer's given up the ghost.
Just driven back from a friend's and the speedometer has given up the ghost. All other gauges are working fine, but speedo is stuck on 0. Consequently the steering has gone heavy, and then the HICAS light came on after I'd driven a mile or so. Now I know I've read something about this before but having done a quick search can't find the relevant thread. Is this going to be down to the speed sensor, or is there something else that might have bought it? And if so where is it, how much is a new one, and how difficult is it to replace? I've got a Series II '93 Manual TT. Strewth, these cars, sometimes, and only sometimes, it does feel like one little thing after another. Ho-hum. ;) Any help gratefully received. Thanks, Bart

Should funkysi get rid of his Zed?
Yeah mate, if it's in otherwise good nick, which it sounds like it is, just get that new engine in there and sort the other bits and bobs out and you're away.

Dilema
Up until now I've had no major problems with mine, although you do need to be aware that it's a 15 (ish)-year-old car so even with a normal car you'd expect to have to deal with ongoing maintenance. The zed is a bit of a different beast though, and therefore requires a greater degree of TLC (read: cash) to keep it sweet. Just make sure you get a decent one and you'll be fine, although it *will* cost you money to keep it running whatever. Use the buyers guide in the FAQ section when going to view zeds and be very cold blooded about rejecting them if you're even slightly unsure.

should bird get rid of his zed
Problem is that might cost just as much as another (better) zed (although I can't say that for sure). I agree with StellaZ though, bird's taken a lot of crap over this with extremely good humour, so let's lay off for a while. Bird, feel for you mate: my previous car managed to empty my bank account in a very short period of time indeed a couple of years back with everything seeming to go wrong at once, and that was just a Renault.

If only i lived in the states.
I think zeds generally fetch better prices in the States anyway, but yeah, $28000 dollars seems kind of a lot.

Two zeds (one black, one silver), Dorchester, Dorset
Black G reg with black alloys, parked off London Road on Friday night (I'm assuming you live there because I've seen it a couple of times). At least, I think it's black, but I've only ever seen it at night so could be a very dark blue I suppose. Silver zed, went up High West Street and turned left at Top 'O Town roundabout. Saturday afternoon at around 3.30 or so.

Met another Z owner tonight
Hi Gaz, Beat me to it. Great to meet you last night! My round next time I think. You've given me a bit of encouragement to get on with some of the jobs I've been putting off as well. I'll definitely give you a buzz next time I'm in the area. Cheers, Bart
