  1. Happy birthday mate!
  2. Ah yes, comedy Nissan electrical connectors. Unfortunately I can't tell you how to get it off, only offer some sympathy as I had a similar experience with one of the connectors in the centre console when changing my shifter bushings. What I can tell you for sure is that it'll be a right bugger, and you'll probably cut your fingers up trying to get it off. :(
  3. Rich, what's that front bumper mate? Like it a lot. Some very classy motors in this thread generally. Feel quite dull by comparison: only ever had two cars, a '98 series III Renault Clio 1.6 RXE... and the zed, so I guess I'm making up a bit. Particularly liking the old Mantas. Getting very rare nowadays unfortunately... not that I ever remember them being that common in the first place.
  4. Holy crap dude!!! The dish on those rear wheels!! That's a really good job. *Love* that colour. You've got to be happy with that result.
  5. I take your point, but I think this kind of thing is part of what make us human (man, I can just hear people puking everywhere right now): pushing the boundaries, seeing what we can do. The kind of development work that went into that plane might one day allow us to make more efficient engines, air travel, or goodness knows what. Stuff that could actually benefit the environment or mankind more generally. All this weird blue-sky "pointless" stuff eventually filters down into everyday items bought by consumers. A lot of innovations and new inventions, things that benefit everyone, come about as a result of people doing stuff that's apparently just fun or in some way bizarrely interesting, but otherwise "pointless". A bit like the space-race: some people though that was pointless, and a waste of money, and on one level it certainly was a kind of epic pissing contest. But think of the developments that came out of that, think how much more we understand about the universe we live in.... and in any case, sticking a man on the moon is just *cool*. I mean, the moon for crying out loud, 100,000 miles away across the most hostile and extreme environment encountered by man, yet people have actually walked on it. We've sent probes to most of the planets in our solar system, and whilst it's not obvious what the benefits of that might be, there *will* one day be benefits that filter down into the lives of ordinary people. Things like this drive technological advances, amongst other things.
  6. I reckon 6k's a little low but may not be quite so far from the truth TBH.
  7. I know that feeling really well. Was looking for info about these: http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_popup.asp?modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&make=TOYOTA&model=HIACE&min_pr=75&max_pr=4000&mileage=&agerange=&postcode=cb4+2as&miles=1500&max_records=200&source=0&photo=1&sort=5&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH&start=3&distance=80&adcategory=CARS&channel=CARS&id=200602220091180 earlier... I know, I know, I just have a perverse desire to own one, humour me OK... but the fact is there's nothing remotely as good as 300zx.co.uk out there. It's a total PITA. I get it all the time at work as well: there's this whole industry full of people out there who somehow manage to earn a living by writing really noddy IT articles on just about any topic imaginable, which often makes it very difficult to find hardcore technical information when you need it. It's why when you find a decent site (like this) the bookmarks list becomes your best friend because the signal to noise ratio from google, and other search engines, can often be appalling. C'est la vie I guess.
  8. I can. Bliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggg!!! Now I'm not saying I like it, because I think it looks daft, and the standard M3 is much nicer. If it had the powaaaa to go with the looks maybe, but unfortunately we all know it doesn't. Cars that look completely OTT ought to have about 700bhp by law IMHO. ;)
  9. Had me worried there for a second! ;) Thought you'd completely lost it or something. Glad to see you're sticking with the V8 though. It's going to be great.
  10. Legend, what else can I say: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4704762.stm That's some achievement.
  11. £5K?!?? Ouch. Gutted for you mate. Hope it all works out OK.

Agreed. Very nice. Actually prefer that to the 350Z, which I'm not a big fan of anyway (runs and hides). It's got a nice interior but the exterior styling is no match for the Z32 IMHO. And I kind of secretly think the Supra can look quite good if done up properly... the problem is that there do seem to be a lot of manky examples around, at least most of the ones round here are, and the interior is a bit kack. (Definitely runs and hides.)
  13. Probably best avoided then. Thanks bud, you've just reinforced that I made the right decision.
  14. OK, guessing the big silence means nobody's too sure. Have therefore decided to go for the standard replacement from MJP rather than take a chance. Don't want to be doing this again any time soon.
  15. Aphex Twin.... always just way too odd for me. That's one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen.
  16. I was thinking of getting one of those before I went for the zed. Quite glad I didn't TBH.
  17. Is it any good? Seems quite cheap... am I missing something? (Like it being complete crap?) http://froogle.motorsportworld.co.uk/framefix.asp?ProductCode=EBC-K673&PID=211399 Cheers, Bart
  18. Yep, can't help but agree. There are a few close shaves in there, and Formula 1 or not, he was damned lucky not to hit a car pulling out from a sidestreet or something. On an F1 track all the cars are (generally) headed round it in the same direction, and there's nothing else out there... public roads are an entirely different can of worms.
  19. That is simply brilliant! Absolute class.
  20. Good job! Your car is excellent. Looking forward to seeing it demolish a few of those big power Skylines and Supras.
  21. OK, I'm rusty as hell but I think it's x86 assembly language. Loads of info here including a decent tutorial http://grail.cba.csuohio.edu/~somos/asmx86.html. Thing about assembly is it looks horrible but each operation is actually really simple so you shouldn't have too much trouble figuring it out. In short PUSH - pushes an item onto the stack and moves the stack pointer accordingly (depends on size of item: 32-bits, 64-bits etc). POP - does the reverse of push: pulls an item from the stack and moves the stack pointer back. MOV - moves an value into/out of a register SUB/ADD/DIV - (integer) arithmetic operations INC - increment Like I say, once you've got a basic understanding it should be fairly easy to figure it out.
  22. I use Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ It's obviously not as full featured as something like CoolEdit but it's pretty good. Just grab the 1.3.0 beta as it runs fine on Windows. You need to install some other bit of widgetry to export MP3s but there are full instructions on the website. Only downside with it is I don't think it's being actively developed any more since 1.3 has been in beta for a good year or so. Works fine though. Never crashed. Hope that helps. Bart
  23. All right, it's fast, I'll give you that.
