Well Done Jaffa in Jap performance Mag
I knew I'd seen that car before: I just picked up the magazine in WH Smith's the other day and read the article. Good job!

xmas tragedy
I've seen a couple of zeds around Dorset, but both of them dark colours so it's not either of the ones I've seen. A real tragedy, particularly at Christmas. RIP.

xmas tragedy
I imagine he was going considerably faster than 60mph actually... just that was the speed he hit the tree at, and yes, if you hit a tree sideways at that speed, particularly with the additional angular momentum provided by spinning then that's going to be the result for pretty much any car short of a Humvee.

Does anybody know the law??
Oh nice, that's a really classy job! Any way you can take this up with the council?

New King Kong movie
I thought it was a pretty good, but marred by the fact that it's just *way too long*. You don't see Kong for about an hour and a half. The end is really sad though... kind of saw it coming unfortunately.

Some bad news
Indeed. I'll second that. Very sorry to hear of your loss. It's hard to imagine what you're going through right now, but thoughts and prayers with you.

Gutted - selling up
Hi everyone, I'm very sorry to say I'm selling my zed (ad already posted in "Cars For Sale", and I'll probably whack it on fleabay after Christmas). This hasn't been an easy decision to make as I love the car, but it's simply reached the point where I've realised it is, as somebody else pointed out, dictating my lifestyle, and that's just not right. I'd love to be able to keep it, but the bottom line is that even if I just leave it in the garage, it's still going to need TLC (i.e. money) pouring into it when it comes out. Don't get me wrong, I've been really fortunate with mine and it doesn't have, and hasn't had, any major problems, but it's just the constant stream of little things that need sorting out, and the fact that every time I leave it in a car park I worry, and I notice every little blemish in the paintwork, and all these things really need sorting to keep the car on top form... and it's £100, £200 here, there and everywhere (and lets not even talk about fuel). Seems like everyone who's had these cars for any length of time knows that... and I've learnt that there really is no such thing as a "cheap" sports car. I've really enjoyed it, and I don't regret buying it one bit even though I've lost a pile of cash, but the fact is that like most people I have to operate on some sort of budget, and I need to face up with the reality and deal with that. So anyway, there you go. I'm really down in the dumps about it, but feel it's the right thing to do. I just want to say thanks for all the help, advice, and encouragement I've received on this forum. IMO you're all a great bunch, and it's been fantastic to be able to get answers within minutes for any problems I've encountered. It's always been very reassuring to know that I'm not on my own with this thing, and I think without the help and advice I've received here I would have found myself up the creek very quickly. Cheers guys, Bart

Hicas light on for a couple of minutes after cold start.
Cheers ya5een. Turns out that's exactly what it was. Fortunately there's a Wilco motor spares place just round the corner. I like the way it's the *lower* surface of the float that has to fall in the high-low range (http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=st&dir=&config=&refresh=&slide=44&cycle=off&scale=0&design=default&total=98) just to make it slightly more of a challenge, because of course the float slips down to the bottom as soon as you pull the dipstick out. :)

Hicas light on for a couple of minutes after cold start.
I don't know, this weather: might be great for the turbos, but boy does it bring out the gremlins. Earlier this week my ABS pump relay stuck on again, although now I know how to sort that out so not a big problem... no dead battery this time around. But now it's the HICAS. I noticed this first yesterday evening when I went to change the oil. Car was cold, and hadn't been driven for a couple of days, so I started the engine to get it warmed up. Warning lights came on as normal and then all switched off again, apart from the HICAS light, which stayed on. Anyway, I pottered around, got the jack and everything else out, made coffee. Probably took 10 - 15 minutes of faffing, and then I switched the engine off, jacked up the car, drained the oil, refilled, then ran the engine for another 10 - 15 minutes to flush it with the clean oil. But this time round the HICAS light didn't come on. Same again after I drained, changed the filter and refilled again: no HICAS light. And it still didn't come on later on in the evening when I went to get some petrol. Step forward to this morning, and it's brass monkeys outside. Car is covered with ice, and I start it up and let it run for a couple of minutes to warm up and clear the windows. HICAS light is on again, but goes off after about 2 - 3 minutes. Any ideas? I must admit I've not checked the fluid level yet, mainly because I don't know where it is, so I'm going to check that out on the "engine by the numbers" FAQ entry. But is there anything else it might be, and if it's not the fluid am I OK to drive with it playing up? Will I damage it by doing so? I need to go to my parents' today, which is around 200 miles away, and I don't really want to take it to a garage round there: if I'm going to take it anywhere I'd rather take it to the guys I use here who know the car pretty well now. Cheers guys, Bart

I have absolutely no idea.

Christmas single DVD
Might be worth paying for a pro to get the data off. Looked into this for a friend back when we were students... trouble was it was going to cost £400, and that was back in 1998, so no idea what it would cost now.

Mitsi Legnum 2.5 Twin Turbo VR4 Estate
From the looks point of view I'd go for the Saab... however the Legnum spec is pretty impressive. There's something about the idea of wasting boy-racers at the lights in a family estate that brings a smile to my face.

I dunno, but if it did I'm very glad to say mine doesn't have it. ;b

Yeah, I'm with the guages. The whole digital dash thing will be cool for like 5 minutes, and then you'll realise: (i) You can't read it in bright sunlight, so if you have the roof off, you're screwed. (ii) It doesn't in any way suit the rest of the interior of your car (even though I haven't seen it, I just know this). (iii) Even if it did it would still look horrifically dated. C'mon, just watch an episode of Knight Rider and look very carefully when there's a shot of the inside of the car: it looks crap. Don't do it (please).

Propshaft Bearing Advice
Thirded. I have a new one on order from him coming from the States. Well worth getting the whole lot I'd say -- his price for one is an absolute bargain as well.
