HAHAHA Anyone Guess What I am Thinking!!
Hmmm, that looks quality. I'd love a panel of those about 500mm x 150mm so I could stick it in the back window and flash up messages on it to other drivers (similar to those red LED matrix things used in shops and doctors waiting rooms etc). Then I could randomly insult the motoring population for minor traffic violations, whilst assuming the moral highground as I flash by at 90... Anyway, I thought Blackpool was closed this year?

Car dealers and the 300zx
I'm inclined to agree - but why the hell wouldn't you ADVERTISE the fact!! After reading the advert I'd learned everything there was to know about Purple Horse (Purple Helmet, more like) but feck all about the car. It does make you wonder about some folk..

which is better ...
Don't think its from a SWB to be honest. Ask JeffTT from Zedworld, they've just got a new SWB slickie in for breaking - I'm sure they could help.

Comparison Site Win Shocker!
That's buggered it then  Footman James did an excellent deal on my Sierra though - I've still got 3 yrs no claims on that policy, they said they would honour it if I ever got insurance again with them  wasn't transferable as it was acrued on a classic policy. I'd recommend them, definitely.

Car dealers and the 300zx
I've noticed used values rocketing too. Infact, I'm thinking of selling my house and investing all my equity into Zeds as I believe a much modified, bodykitted car will be a sound investment for the future and only go up in value. Must be quick though, or everyone else will twig too. Couldn't find anything on the advert to convince me of the car's value though? 8k for what? I can see a not so subtle bodykit, a few aftermarket gauges, a horrific steering wheel and a cheap tweed interior - that makes it 8k how? Doesn't even say if its a turbo or not.. I'd much rather have what is quietly sitting next to the Zed - gimme an immaculate, unmolested Cosworth anyday. Especially the Sierra 3 doors.

Comparison Site Win Shocker!
I know what you're saying Pete, you'd be a fool not to shop around first, I agree. Normally it involves phoning round though, as comparison sites have only ever quoted silliness for a modified Jap import parked in down-town Bagdad. For reference, the next lowest quote was 8000 odd - which is what I would expect from these sites, really. With a bit more work, I might even get the insurance under 700 quid which is what I was paying when I first got the car. Hopefully NB - have been told I cannot get classic insurance on my car - declined on the basis that it is '95 reg and therefor a 'future classic' - in which case the car needs to be garaged. Mileage isn't a problem though - I don't get much chance to drive it these days :manicallydepressedsmiley:

After 4 months it started
Glad to hear it Rob, Good luck with the improvements you've got planned - some tasty bits to go on there. I like your rear wing too - not familiar with that one, which is it? Look forward to the updates

Comparison Site Win Shocker!
IT only bloody managed to find a cheaper quote than my current insurance provider. I'm speechless. Internet now has 3 uses: cars, porn AND insurance. Amazing. As a matter of interest the quote was from Admiral, with every nut and bolt declared :innocent: 726 quid - which for where I live, is probably about right - as being a car thief is now a recognised occupation in my area. Sky decided to increase my premium by 160 (to 900) quid after I declared my engine rebuild, even though the performance was pretty much unchanged. They wouldn't even agree that the value of the car had increased. :gun_bandana: How I miss the years when my car insurance actually decreased :crying:

Another clown that got his hands on a Z
Got bored of 470bhp. Hmmm, not sure that has any credibility either. Bumper looks good though, wonder if he'd sell it seperate? :tongue_smilie:

Turbo fitment
Well I'm no expert on these things - I just regurgitate information as if it were gospel, like many keyboard warriors. But, some people's knowledge on here is quite extroadinary, you should make use of their wealth of knowledge. The thing is, too many people get disheartened when things go belly-up and another Zed gets broken for spares. I just think you should just get it fixed as cheap and quick as possible and enjoy it for what it is for a while. When my piston rings went, the car was off the road for four months and that was with the assistance from the Zed elite. Which is completely impractical if the Zed is your only mode of transport. Anyway, decide what's best for you and get it back on the road so you can enjoy it - just don't bite off more than you can chew, so to speak (and that has nothing to do with you being a laaady!!).

Turbo fitment
That must mean its the driver's side turbo that's failed then? Sorry - can't remember which bank is which :blushing: I know Jeff managed to change a passenger side manifold gasket (and therefore also remove the turbo) but I didn't realise it was possible to change the drivers side with the engine in situ? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was impossible? Anyway, I'm not overly convinced by the strategy you're employing, but I understand completely that you don't want to change turbos twice - once is bad enough. Thing is, if the lads at the workshop pull the engine instead, then it doesn't need to tie a ramp up (heavens forbid!) and you can get some turbos bolted on before the lump gets dropped back in. Maybe jeff or Jimmer will tell you, but it might actually be easier, if not the only way you can do it?? Personally, I would go for the safe route and stick with stock - you can still wind the boost up a bit and enjoy a healthy 350bhp with stock parts. And for someone who's used to driving a 106 (was it?), that should be plenty for a few months at least! Driving round with an engine thats pegged back sounds like misery to me.

Turbo fitment
Depends on the turbo you intend to use, some will require a different stud pattern on the downpipes. Also, if you radically increase the size of the turbo you need to have the ECU re-mapped. If you need to give more fuel to stop it running lean, then you will need to uprate the injectors. If you're going to run more fuel and higher boost, you're going to need forged pistons. To get the most out of it you're going to need a bigger set of intercoolers too. I hope you can see where this is going.. If you want a quick, cheapish fix - stick with a stock setup until you have enough money to do the job proper. HTH

New subscription fees......!!
Tony, give it up bud. Just be grateful and welcome the news like everyone else. Sometimes it seems you're hell bent on grinding your axe - just expressing an impartial viewpoint here, bud. Only my opinion of course.. Cheers

Benchmark / Baseline Help Please
Question one - JAP clocks have different units of measurement. 7 being the equivelant of 14psi or thereabouts. Hence your boost controller. Q2 - The oil pressure will fluctuate with temperature and engine speed. Thats normal. No oil pressure is not normal, obviously. Q3 - As far as I know you'll see the turbos are on their way out, rather than hear them - in the form of smoke coming from the exhaust. Q4 - Not sure - check oilman's threads on this subject, there are a few very informative threads about. I think the balance is finding an oil which will protect your engine on frosty cold starts and survive the heat of the turbos, its quite a lot to ask of some dead sea animals. HTH

New wheels
That is looking stunning Gary, really suit the car - I can't think how you could improve on that! Somehow, the Zed manages to be retro and modern at the same time, it really is a thing of beauty in standard form.

Heater temperature
If the temp starts rapidly climbing and falling it's usually because the sensor is reading air temp then, water temp, then air temp etc etc. Sounds like you need to find the source of your water leak. I'm pretty sure you'd realise if the head gasket was gone, but maybe your bottom radiator hose is leaking due to deformation created by the vacuum from your engine cooling? JeffTT covered this in a thread not too long ago. I too have also had a problem with water mysteriously disappearing, but it no longer does it! Best thing is too keep a very close eye on your water level. Check it every time you drive the car, until you fully understand how much is being used, otherwise it could cost you a fortune to fix instead of just replacing a hose etc..

SERIOUS word of WARNING!!!
Couldn't agree more, Vijay. This tale has made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Law breaker gets caught - happy days. Right, only another 2 million vehicles to catch, boys in blue best get cracking..

Is this safe?
400 sounds a lot safer - if you're fuelling is ok. It's still a bit of a lottery though, there's just no way of knowing what the internal condition of the engine is. I would recommend getting that other engine built up using decent bearings and pistons, hopefully before the existing one goes pop. That way you can at least sell your old engine to offset the cost of the new parts and engine swap (unless you are doing the work yourself). Good luck
-
Is this safe?
I would have a guess the general consesus will be 'NO'. OK, you've taken care of the fuelling by replacing the fuel pump and larger injectors, but those pistons will be right on their limit (if not over their limit) running 470hp. The real acid test will be to drive it and see what happens. If the engine does blow up, then your aftermarket parts should still be fine to put onto a new block, which gives you opportunity to replace the bearings and pistons and do the job properly. In the mean time, I would assume the following position whilst driving:

Some pics with my new camera :-)
Great stuff bud, great location - Zeds looking lovely too! Only way to improve is take more photos, try doing a 'Vodkashots Special' and get some unusual perspectives, like real low down and from a higher elevation etc etc. Not saying you need to improve - they're great, but there's always room for improvement!

Car is looking fantastic, red definitely suits the Zed. Did this car belong to another forum member before you took ownership? Good effort sir!

Tooth whitening...
Unfortunately Rich, I'd say you're suffering a little 'Hollywood Syndrome'. All those lifestyle magazines with pictures of celebs with whiter than white teeth, not too mention everyone on TV. Is it any wonder we're all paranoid about having normal teeth, when all these celebs actually have a mouth of small stumps with veneers attached. If you've always felt self conscious about your smile, then definitely - get it done. But I know for a fact, when I met you, I didn't think: "Hey up, here comes Wurzel Gummage"! As I often have to remind my missus ( who constantly bangs on about teeth whitening, breast implants, lipo-suction etc ); she looks bloody great! If you cave-in to one insecurity then where does it stop? I mean; you're a bit of a short-arse (LOL), so are you going to sleep on a rack to stretch yourself out? Or what about a Rooney-esque hair transplant? Whatever you do mate, don't go spending a fortune, you look perfectly fine to me (in a totally plutonic sense, of course).
