this guy must have a huge 'leccy bill
I'm sure I saw exactly that same house singing to 'Thriller' by the peado king? No one else see it?

I've done one, but I've flushed it now. Sorry.

Who used to own this?
I saw this the other night and couldn't remember who's it was. Seems like a sensible price I think. There's actually quite a good choice of Zeds available at the moment, even though there isn't as many available.

How much is my number plate worth??
Firstly old, old style number plates, which were 3 letters, 1-999 number, then another letter, EG: ABC 1A DCE 34T FAT 713S Old style number plates = Letter, 1-999 number then 3 more letters. For example: A1 ABC B23 CDE C456 FGH New style: 2 letters, two numbers and three letters. EG: AA 01 ABC - 1st half of year AA 51 ABC - 2nd half of year Then you also have Northern Ireland plates, generally: 3 letters followed by 4 numbers, EG: PDY 1234 Finally, you have private plates which were available from the DVLA on request or by bribe which could be any combination of letters and numbers (within reason), EG: A1 ED 5 5 EXY RJ 23 PAB 432 etc, etc So, pretty much you can have any combination you like - but most of the good ones have gone. Some people genuinely believe it enhances their car, others look at them and think 'you plonker'. Each to their own.

really really sorry to ask again advice
If she was that ugly mate, you should count your blessings its over!! The best way to get over an ex is to find someone new and move on. It's a cliche, but time IS the greatest healer. I beat myself up for years over a failed relationship, looking back I have no idea why (perhaps I just wanted to be misreable?), but now I couldn't be happier. After that relationship I said to myself, that I'd never allow another calous, heartless, cheating, scheming, gold digging, useless, wretched piece of scum upset me again (do I sound bitter still?). Oddly enough, my outlook has changed completely now. I don't worry at all about being single, knowing full well there are literally millions of women out there with poor eyesight and low self-esteem, just waiting for a knight in shining armour like me  Life moves on buddy, so should you. Good luck with the hunt, er I mean, dating thing.

Newbie help
Let me re-phrase that question for you... What doesn't go wrong with a Zed? Answer: not much :pinch: I would say, don't worry too much about the mileage and accept from the beggining that the engine will require rebuliding pretty soon. Thats the first 3.5 grand to budget for. Next is the residual rust that has infested the sills and rest of the car, which often goes unnoticed at the point of sale. That's another grand to budget for. Next you have to consider that even a good Zed will cost between 500 and 1000 to maintain in good condition per year on average. Then you have to factor in the 100 quid a week in fuel you will use if you want to use it everyday. I may have gone slightly OTT with this, but you get the picture. They are not cheap cars to run. You can save a lot if you're handy with spanners and filler, but you cannot hide from the fuel costs. Don't be put off by high mileage - its more important how its been looked after. The engines can go pop at any time if they have been neglected or worked on by non-specialists.

Big thanks to Jeff, Jamie and Lynda
I was a little worried my car had developed an issue recently, so today I took it to Zedworld and recieved their world-class helpfullness and hospitality yet again. As it turned out there wasn't any issue at all - everything is in fine fettle, but at least now my mind has been put at rest. Despite being there over an hour, Jeff refused to take a penny off me. I cannot think of another garage/business who would be this helpful and kind. I know you can't expect this kind of treatment everytime you visit Zedworld, but I can honestly say I wouldn't take my car anywhere else! Jeff and the team have done it again, so many, many thanks to you all. All the best, Leo

Trick or treat
last year I locked my gate, but this year I was feeling a little more charitable (or I'm going soft, more like), so I bought a couple of bags of treats and have just given my last bag of chocolate buttons away!! Hopefully that's it now, or otherwise I'll be getting a trick.. Guess I might be due one after what i did when I was a nipper - nothing malicious like, but I definitely remember cans of silly string and gettings peoples cars/flowerbeds etc.

Still here!!!
Glad to hear you still have a Zed! But... go on, show us some pics of the Stagea :tt1:

2013 Z car hybrid.
They're hoping it will manage 30mpg?? WOW. 2 and a half decades of evolution and the best they can come up with is that? Must try harder. :pinch:

Do I get a badge for this?
head unit and 2 under-seat subs. Then that's it - I'm finished with the whole working-on-your-own-car thing!

Do I get a badge for this?
Well, after being mortally afraid to do anything other than check the oil and water on my car, I finally rolled up my sleeves and got my hands dirty! I'm not adverse to practical stuff, but generally with cars I know I'm better off leaving it to the pro's. After getting a quote of 200 quid to fit some stereo equipment in my car, I quickly changed my mind however. 200 quid? How hard can it be? I had been looking at a whole new setup for my car, but to get myself started, I decided I would replace just the door speakers and rear 6x4's. I started at 9 o'clock removing the driver's door card and by 10 o'clock I still hadn't got the bloody thing off! One of the metal clips holding the electric window buttons in, had bent underneath a metal brace. I eventually prised it free, but fearing I was about to break something I was constantly running backwards and forwards from t'net, checking our user manual to make sure I'd done everything correctly. Anyway 4 hours later I'd successfully drilled and fitted the new 5.25 speaker, the little amp type thing that seperates the signal for the tweeter (and mounted the tweeter ontop of the door card) and replaced the door card. An hour and a half later I'd done the passenger door too - and 30 minutes after that the new rear speakers had been drilled and fitted. So sat in the drivers seat enjoying my new sounds and admiring my handywork!! That smug, satisfaction lasted at least 24 hours until the next day, when we set off on our long trip... And I realised that it doesn't matter how much you spend on speakers, you still can't hear jack shit in my car  Oh well. But do i get a badge now? Like my 50m swimming one, but says something like 'junior ICE challenge' or summits similar? Please, do I? huh?

Kept up with a Ferrari 360 :)
You really can't make assumptions like that mate! For all you know she could have a degree in quantum mechanics - never judge a book by its cover! On a different note, seeing as everyone is enjoying their 'hero' moment, I'd thought I'd embarrass myself and confess to my 'losses'. Number 1: I was whupped by a Volvo 740 shortly after getting my engine rebuilt :pinch: It had some kind of body kit on it and a badge I can't remember on the boot (similar to Hartge or Alpina, that kinda thing), but we both booted it in third and the Volvo was pulling away. I gave up pretty quickly after that. Number 2: I was 'served' just the other night on my way upto Scotland. After Edinburgh and the roadworks heading north on the M90, I decided it was safe to press-on a little. Noticed some Xenon bulbs half a mile back which had been keeping up for a couple of miles, so slowed down to let him past, and saw it was only an Audi A6 2.7tdi... Getting back on it, Audi decided he was going to show me a thing or two - just as the road gets a little twisty before Perth. There was no way I could keep up on the long, constant radius turns. The road was a tiny bit greasy and I don't trust my rear tyres unless its bone dry, so the Audi and his quattro were long gone. I could reel him back in on the straights, but that's not the point really is it? If it couldn't beat a diesel in a straight line, I'd set fire to it there and then!

Retro Stratus V6 or new V8?
I stand corrected - that sounds awesome Gary! In answer to your original post though - I think the Stratos suits a V6 more than a V8. Imagine if your missus sounded like Barry White, it just wouldn't be right! Same with the Stratos - V8 doesn't suit it.
-
Retro Stratus V6 or new V8?
A V6 sounds better than a 4 pot. A V8 sounds better than a V6. A V10 sounds better than a V8 and a V12 sounds better than a V10. A V16 wins. Fact. Sorry, couldn't figure out how to embed it - but you really have to listen to this.

RWD Diesels
I had the 2.5td Omega, but the e36 3 series has the same engine and weighs nearly a ton less. I'd still have another Omega though, was quite happy going sideways, infact, i learnt to oversteer/powerslide in the ol' Omega. Only managed 30mpg on the downside. Looking at prices on t'net I'd say you'd be mad not to go for a bimmer. Or perhaps a merc c-class?

Handling
I would get the standard suspension freshened up before you go changing anything. Make sure everything is doing what it's supposed to. If it doesn't feel firm enough then, make some changes. I have stock suspension on my car and body roll is definitely not a problem.

Curb Weight
Some manufacturers quote curb weight for a 'dry' car without fuel in the tank or water in the rad.. Also, unless they were digital corner scales (i.e one under each wheel) I wouldn't trust the figure anyway. Just use it as rough marker.

Gearing on the dyno print out says 20mph per 1000rpm, so almost certainly fourth gear.

i want this
Power to weight ratio similar to a mildly modded Zed. But zero torque. Or reverse.. Bike engined caterham/westfield/kitcar for me any day. But I'm loving the retro-cool Mk1 look, looks very well executed.

this a zed engine?
I really cannot think why the car would have only been driven a few times since being imported?? I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact its bright pink? I'd rather pour Creosote into my eyes than be seen driving that!
