  1. Would it not be possible to get 1200 for it as it is? Doesn't sound like a ridiculous sum. Shame to see another Zed going to the big car park in the sky.. Also, is it not possible to get the problem with the clutch resolved? Surely there have been bigger mysteries than a slipping clutch, solved by our spanner wielding chums?
  2. Had to laugh when I saw this! My mate 'clipped' a curb whilst drifting his M3. It's just burnt a 2.5k sized hole in his pocket to get it all repaired, ouch. For 2.5k you could replace an entire Zed! How much were you expecting the Zed to contribute to the new car fund if you don't mind me asking? About half??
  3. That's a bizarre reason for making a two piece prop! You would have thought that they could have found a way of refining the connections between gearbox and diff, rather than adding extra slack into the system? Are the UV joints equally spaced then, or asymetric?
  4. I don't think you fancy one anyway, but manuals don't exist! Autos only! Also, there was an option to have the walnut burr nearly black from the factory which looked really nice. I had a race with one the other day - my Zed wasn't gaining on him, put it that way  Great looking motors.
  5. Funny that you've chosen two cars with possibly THE worst real-world fuel economy. Those (nearly) 2 ton Monaros with a 5.7 engine are going to average low 20's and possibly single figures when you really hammer it. The evo likewise. I know consumption isn't the only thing to consider, but it'll be by far the biggest cost after purchasing the car. I can't knock either of them, I can see the appeal in both. I think the Evo would offer the best grin factor and the most entertaining chassis, but the Manaro is a big, effortless cruiser. Personally, when I sell my Zed (if I ever do), I'm gonna go for a Caterham or Elise. If you've ever driven either you'll know what I mean. Both are happy on the road or track, the Elise obviously being the most civilised. THey're fecking quick to, I was having a tussle with one on a recent track day. Depends what you want from the car, but the Evo will definitely offer something different, not sure if the Monaro would really do anything better than the Zed (apart from be more reliable perhaps?). I'd recommend trying something new, life's too short - you can always get another Zed. Sod the money aspect - you're not a car dealer, everybody looses money on cars, ask anyone who's ever bought a new car and suffered 30% depreciation in the first year :death:
  6. Sounds like my commute to work!
  7. My rear shocks were kaput when I purchased the Zed, was getting wheel tramp during hard acceleration on broken asphalt. Got Jeff to fit a new set (for a pretty reasonable price too) and all was well again. I think the Zed is plenty firm enough for normal fast-road use, if you intend to spend a lot of time on track then yes, coil overs are the way to go. I use my Zed as a GT though, so I value ride comfort just as much as out right performance. Once I've finished the engine upgrades (or possibly before) I intend to fit a set of Eibach lowering springs (-25mm approx), which should give the more appealing aesthetics without destroying the ride quality. I know a lot of people have coil overs on here and I've fitted them to my own cars in the past, but now I really wouldn't bother - maybe that's a sign I'm getting old!
  8. Sounds like the dampers are shot bud. Coil overs = quickest way to ruin a perfectly good setup IMO
  9. Shame, I would have bid just to find out where Nigel lived.. Guess there's no point now. Great read though - glad to see he kept his sense of humour!
  10. I've just spoken to the owner of this garage - he reliably informs me that the garage is still open for business, but admits sales have been a little slow lately. He's currently giving the place a makeover and is hoping to shift a few cars and get some new stock in. I didn't have the heart to tell him about Longbridge.
  11. Why did Nissan make a two-piece prop if a one piece prop is fine? I've heard of over engineering before (usually on antique Mercs), but this seems daft. I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explantion - anyone care to explain? Thanks
  12. I had an Omega 2.5TD. Great car, you could drive 600 miles in it and still feel fresh. My car was reliable right up until the day something major broke about 100m away from home (thank fook). Was probably a bottom end bearing of some nature - but I wasn't interested in finding out and flogged it on ebay 2 days later as a breaker. I'd done 50k in it and it didn't owe me a penny. I do know they have electric problems though (although mine didn't) and stay away from the petrol V6's if you're looking for reliability. The 2.0l is chronically underpowered however. The other thing you should ba aware of is they are MASSIVE. I'm not sure a woman would be able to park such a beast!
  13. So by that, I assume, when you are driving normally it's OK? Does it do it most going from 5th - 4th or 3rd - 4th or both? I don't know what difference it makes, but it may be useful. Also, when you say pushing it, do you mean changing gear at higher revs - and what kinda revs we talking about?
  14. Note to self: - Don't piss PaulC off... :sweatdrop:
  15. :happybday: Enjoy your evenings activities bud, have 2 virtual pints on me! :pint: :pint: :turned:
  16. Congrats, have a virtual pint on me! :pint:
  17. I think any form of fitness activity will help calm your stress levels. I've done a bit of boxing in the last few months, because the gym instructor is really into it and offered to give me some tuition. It very nearly killed me! But it was really enjoyable and very demanding - I don't think I went to the gym for 3 days after the first lesson! The exercise will get those endorphines flowing though and that should relieve some stress too, irrespective of which discipline you decide to train in.
  18. Depends what type of job you want to go for bud, as you will need to tailor your CV specifically for each application. If you were looking through a stack of CV's - you'd be able to tell which were just a generic format and which had been specifically written for that position. The best advice I can offer is sod the CV, if I've learnt anything is this life its who you know and not what you know that matters. Think if you know anyone who is doing a job that you'd fancy having a go at and see if you can use your connections. Obviously, if it isn't possible then you'll have to rely on your CV. Any ideas what type of work you are after? What would you say your skills are. AND what do you think you would enjoy doing?? I would say keep your CV as brief as possible, state facts rather than writing bilge they've seen a hundred times before. Having said that, my CV is 6 pages long - so what would I know?
  19. 365 bhp and 440lb/ft - NICE. That's how I would like my engine setup - to maximise torque, not outright bhp. Whereabouts in the rev band were you getting those immense torques?
  20. Its not a myth at all bud. I looked into this just the other day, they share the same platform. What makes them different is weight distribution, spring/damper rates and suspension geometry. They are very different though and every review I read said the ST220 was the better car. I'd rather have the Mondy too, way better looking than the (Freddie) Crougar. If looks are more important than substance then the Pug 406 is still one of the best looking cars to be made in the last 15 years. But they are heavy like trucks, nearly 2 tons for the V6. A friend of mine bought one and stuck a meaty exhaust on it and so on, went well enough - but was heavy on fuel. I still think the Fiat Coupe Turbo is the way forward. Only ever heard good things about the chassis. It is a Fiat though, but then hey, Fords aint any better anyway.
  21. Bare-shell strip down, acid bath followed by treatment and protective dips. Then wheels up rebuild, dry use only and stored in a temperature controlled dehumidifying tent in a garage. Or Jeff will Waxoyl (or something similar) it for about 80 quid. Its a tough choice.
  22. Mine used to do that on the odd occaision, just before it blew up. I used to turn the aircon on and off until it dropped back to normal. Not sure how helpful that is, but seemed to do the trick.
  23. Sorry, thought this thread referred to people who use ebay generally. Could try selling your car in the real world fella. Check with Zedworld, see if they are looking for a scrapper, if you're really desperate. Oh, and of course, there's always We buy any car.com We buy any car dot com We buy any, any, any.... We buy any car dot com
  24. I have poly bushes fitted to mine, though I now understand that poly bushed can cause the tension arms to stress and fail. I think I would say fook the cost and stick to OEM if I had the choice again, just for the added ride comfort.
