  1. This might sound obvious Daffy - but go for a test drive in both! I've heard that earlier S2000's aren't quite 'there' handling wise. I think from '04 onwards there was an upgrade to the suspension/geometry..?? Worth looking into. I've always been drawn to the S2000 as well, but after owning 2 big cube, torque-rich motors I just know it wouldn't do it for me. Unless it had a turbo fitted!! I was reading in Banzai a while back about a turbo'd S2000 - they were testing the stock internals, but ran out of boost at 700bhp - the engine seemed upto the job though! If you could find one with a dead engine (not very likely with a Honda I guess), then it could make financial sense. If you don't want to tinker too much, then it would have to be the Zed IMO. Good luck, whichever way you swing!
  2. A BMW 645 as a second car? Uses a Pug 107 for the commute? With logic like that, I'd sell the girlfriend and buy a Lamborghini. Having 4 cars is a huge, unnecessary expense. If you've got money to burn, then to hell with it and enjoy it. If you haven't, then you should really be asking yourself why you've just bought the Bimmer. Personally, I wouldn't be able to justify both the Bimmer and the Zed. I'd keep the 645 and sell the Zed and take the loss on the chin. Its a loose - loose situation whatever you do. The Bmw will depreciate, the Zed will always swallow bundles of cash. Why not buy the missus an Elise instead? It's tea-total compared to the Bavarian beer monster - she could even use it for the commute.. and you could drive it to the car wash and back every Sunday morning (that one which is 100 miles away, you know which one I mean) and sell the Zed. Win - win!
  3. Silverbullet quoted me when I was looking into this, but in the end I bought new turbos. I think it was about 300 quid per tub all in, but could be cheaper if you've already got the internals etc. Doesn't appear to be a very active member anymore though, last activity was early march. I would of thought the likes of Jeff or Jimmer would also be able to point you in the right direction.
  4. Give yourself 50 lashes with the Birch, you can't say that. Outrageous!! Think red is probably the worst colour for that car, they look quite classy in blue/black. Proper old skool cool..
  5. Sorry to hear this, Best wishes to everyone Leo
  6. Reading that article made me smile.. Common sense 0 Stupidity 1
  7. Ah, school boy error there.. You see, you assume that Top Gear are actually interested in making factually correct programmes, which they catagorically aren't. Although I concede that the hot ambient temperatures would affect a turbo engine greater than a N/A motor, it wouldn't make up the near 1 second (0-60) difference between Mac and Bug. Nope, that was Top Gear trickery at its best. Just to make it more of a spectacle. The Veyron doesn't need all 1000bhp to hit 60 mph, it needs it for top speed - an 800bhp Bug would still hit 60 mph in well under 3 secs, mainly due to it being 4 wheel drive. Never, ever believe what you see on top gear.. it's pure shite (mostly).
  8. Unlucky bud.. How did it happen? You can tell us - we won't rip on you (much). One day my car will look like that I'm pretty sure! Better to crash and burn rather than fade away..
  9. Thanks for the replies guys.. I will have to check the earth tomorrow and report back!!
  10. Hi folks, Got a problem with the driver's side front indicator. The bulb won't illuminate, so i checked the bulb and the bulb is fine, I even tried another new bulb just in case, but still didn't work. So, checked all the fuses (couldn't tell which was which - due to jap writing) which were also fine. So not really sure what's next. It was working fine, but on a recent long run I noticed that the right turn signal was flashing at double speed, so thought it was just the bulb.. Any suggestions? Many thanks - Leo
  11. Have you considered that you may just need to feed the power in more progressively? lol Try lowering your tyre pressures too. At the end of the day, it's the nature of the beast.
  12. I seem to remember a web site that calculated how much power you need to hit 200 mph - it was just less than 500 bhp IIRC? Main problem will be gearing.. Manual box would require 8000+ revs or something daft, but the VG30 isn't going to be producing much power at those revs (if it doesn't go bang first). Similar story with the Auto box, though I believe Yowser quoted about 190mph at 7200rpm in another post?? Power isn't really the problem, you can get 500bhp quite cheaply as long as you're not bothered about longevity. It's finding a gearbox that'll pull 200 that'll be the real problem. Maybe a 6 speed box from another car would do it, but it'll be a ball-ache to do it, whatever you go for. If you want to hit 200 mph, buy a bike and and make sure you video it, so once they've scraped your remains off the side of a bridge somewhere, you still have evidence of that magical 200mph!!
  13. From the first report the road looks quite straight, depends which way he was travelling I guess, could be a bad bend just behind the camera? Either way, a large chunk of masonary went straight through the glass house and killed the poor lad. Could just have easily been a telegraph pole or a tree though - does make you think. Family must be devastated..
  14. Basically, computer says 'NO'
  15. Also, 43,000 miles doesn't guarantee it'll be any good anyhow. For example the suspension will still be tired if its using the same bushes that it left the factory with, also the body is just as likely to be suffering from corrosion. If the engine hasn't been regularly serviced and the timing belt done - again, it means nothing. Whatever you buy, accept that it'll probably need a few hundred quid chucking at it to get it into a road worthy state for regular use. Not many of these cars have been well cared for - certainly not cheap ones. A low mileage example that's been cherished will command a premium over the abundance of tat that is available, so as Gary said, the condition of the car will give a much clearer indication than what is stated on the mileometer. Not wishing to sound too pessimistic, but these cars can be a money pit if you buy a wrong 'un. Get a forum member to help check the car out if you have any doubts at all...
  16. Congratulations buddy! No pain relief whatsoever? I don't know, these women think they're sooo tough! The other day I was nursing a paper cut better, when I stubbed my toe, I can tell you now: that's far more painfull than child birth! Tsch.
  17. Being old and sensible, I would say go for some simple 5 or 6 spoke alloys - because they're easy to clean!! My preference would be Rota GTR's or Rota Drift's - I really can't decide which looks best, I think the GTR's are more common, but both really suit the Zed. New, you're looking at 1300 quid for four wheels and decent tyres, so you need deep pockets. My mate bought some nice 5 spoke (split spoke jobbies, similar to the R33 GTR alloys) deep dish alloys for his GTS-T, cost less than 700 quid including tyres off ebay - bargain. BBS LM's (or copies) look class also, but are way too much of a ball-ache to clean if you like to keep them looking brand-spanking clean. Sometimes, I start thinking I've out grown the car modding scene - lol.
  18. Z centre sell the D2 brake systems for a very reasonable amount (cheaper than the Driftworks offer). I'm more than tempted myself, except I've found a hundred other things to waste my money on now.. maybe next year though??
  19. Fair enough, it's horses for courses I guess - certainly no shame in having it fitted either. Knowing your limits and trying to protect yourself and others is very admirable. I'm pretty comfortable with how the car handles in poor conditions, but as I said, i've been caught out unawares. How much a TC system would've helped in those instances is debatable, but it certainly wouldn't have done any harm. As long as people don't expect it to be totally infallible (which I'm sure they don't), then it's another layer of safety.
  20. If you make the rear end a lot lighter then traction will become more of an issue, but as mentioned, you will be able to eliminate it to a certain extent by adjusting your setup. Reducing weight will also mean that you can carry more speed into turns as the tyres are not having to work as hard carrying the extra weight, but as CarMad mentioned, the balance will probably be adversely affected. Generally though, less weight has to be a good thing. By relocating your battery and other ancilliaries to the boot, you could offset the change in weight distribution. As for traction control, if you're at all hesitant about it, then I would definitely fit it. My approach was to provoke my car in a relatively safe environment so I could get a handle on how quick breakaway was and how much correction was required. I found that in relatively standard form (and with Hicas still operational) was that the car was exceptionally easy to control at the limit and pretty forgiving. You do run out of lock quite quickly though, so a quick tidy up is crucial if you want to avoid spinning the car. I'm a purist, so would never fit TC, but I understand why lesser men feel the need. I have been caught out twice by my car though, when I really wasn't expecting it - both times I caught it, but only after massive brown-trouser moments. I would recommend you er on the side of caution to start with, better safe than sorry. Traction control will not help you on ice my friend. Once you've lost traction, they don't really do a great deal! On a greasy road, it almost certainly would help, but I think you should still rely more on experience and know when to back off first.
  21. Are you in the tug or the tanker (?) by the way? Used to do a bit of tug skippering myself a few years back. Prefer life on land now, lol.
  22. Well done bud, I don't think there could be a bigger swing from one direction to another! But I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Well done on registering for the club, best thing you can do with these cars. A lot of very experienced owners and traders on here, so be sure to tap their knowledge. I see you're not a million miles away from one of our engine gurus, so you should be well set if you do have any engine probs! Sounds like you've got a turbo.. any other details (colour, year, mileage, mods etc etc)? Best of luck bud
  23. Even the Stig has to take a shit somewhere!!
  24. LOL Daz, looks like you and me have very similar spare rooms bud! Well, they both have windows and models - how many similarities do you want?? I heard the Stig thinking too, must be the great shot composition!
  25. I bought mine because I wanted something fast. I'd been impressed with my Skyline, so thought I would stick with Nissan. Always liked the way it looked, it's a classic design. I don't think it's possible to go quicker for the same money?
