  1. Quality - that's the funniest thing I've seen in a while! Fortunately none of the kids round by me are gonna be affected by their poor grades. Last time I checked you didn't need qualifications to claim benefits (though it does help if you can read and write). Guess they can get on with their life now and start poppin sprogs - or as they see it - increasing their income! I think kids should be encouraged to do more vocational training at school rather than battering the bad ens 'cos they ain't got no grades man.. Congratulations; you're 16 with no qualifications and no chance in life - not a very positive start is it? But I don't think this thread was created to discuss the shortfalls of the education system. I will try and not laugh next time I'm ordering my sausage and egg Mcnuffin:drool:
  2. Can't believe you've sold that Damo! Cars that clean are few and far between.. Hope the bike delivers the same satisfaction - be careful. Drop me a PM if you fancy going for a spin in a Zed sometime - I'll be only too happy to oblige. Cheers bud
  3. Need to see the colours in natural light really... But i would assume darker the better? Great material though, my old skyline had it - wears very well - I was surprised. Are you still thinking of mixing the alcantara with leather on the seats? or have you decided to go all alcant?
  4. So its not just a Nissan thing then? Just weird that none of my previous cars sounded like they'd been holding their breath til i got to the petrol station!
  5. Hi there bud, welcome to the club. If you want any advice or help you've come to the right place. Use the Help and Advice section of this forum for any technical queries and the Z32 - Related section for anything non technical. But no-one is gonna shoot you down in flames if you post in the wrong place - the moderators will generously move it for you! What car are you thinking about and how much? Is it on Pistonheads or Autotrader? Good luck with the search:thumbup: Oh, and quite a few people here use Sky Insurance (Jap specialists) - but give us some details - how old, any quotes yet etc
  6. Sounds like a bit of interest then. I suggest we go befor Nick gets 600zx off the ground and creams us all with his huge cubic inchage (have you seen his missus? he must be packin some serious cubic inchages:lol:) Or we can wait until Nicks finished, blindfold him, then add 200hp to our figures and pretend it was a pretty close run thing! Picking my car up this weekend from the boys at Zedworld (and ladies) so will enquire then and see if I can organise summits. Keep watching this thread..
  7. Thats doublely awesome then! Looks smart, good sound and practical to boot (make that triplely awesome)! I wasn't even worried about my ice yet as I have other more pressing issues, but rest assured when I do get round to it I'll be following a similar tack. Good job Kr1s. There you go Sky - problem sorted, all you need is a jigsaw, some MDF a bit of time and effort. I had acoustic parcel shelves (very similar to Kr1s' effort) made by professional ICE centres (for an old pug and sierra) and did feel a bit ripped off afterwards. But the weighty MDF does give a solid platform for the speakers to work against. The last thing you want is for it to sound like a biscuit tin with a hand grenade in! Good luck with it..:punk:
  8. Aye, that's the spirit! Someone of your caliber should have a bit of er, fighting spirit about them:biggrin: More expense now means less potential expense later (hopefully). Just make sure whoever fits the turbos gives the whole engine a once over - preferably someone who knows Zeds inside out - just in case. You'd be even more miffed if you fitted the new tubs and the problem persisted. Good luck with it all, you'll be back on the road soon enough and good on ya for sticking with it:clap:
  9. Not really a problem as such - just curious. I noticed on my skyline too, that when you pop the petrol cap off it draws air into the tank as if there is a pretty substantial vacuum. Now I'm guessing its either because the tank is so air-tight that its simply the fuel being pumped out that creates the vacuum and/or changes in temp and atmospheric pressure. But It did strike me as odd that its possible to create such a strong vacuum. I also realise that there's a system that collects the tank fumes and feeds them back into the system, but wasn't sure if it was this or the afore mentioned reasons. Do all nissans of this era do this? cheers
  10. Fricking awesome:w00t: Group B Rallying was the nuts. Damn the health and safety Nazis - its not like us humans are an endangered species (yet). Was really the golden age of motorsport back then, if you look at the Group C racing and even the F1 cars of that time - it makes todays efforts look half arsed and over complicated. 1500 bhp and barely enough rubber or downforce to contain it - taking your hand off the wheel to change gear. Racing drivers were not necessarily fearless, but they were pretty fricking brave in comparison to todays bunch of simulator trained geeks. One of my all time favourite cars...
  11. That is a lovely looking house there max, I would put up some pics of my 1950's ex-council house just to further embelish your pics, but fearful of embarrassing myself I won't. It does go to show that period properties (even if not a barn conversion) have oodles of character in comparison to modern properties and therefor much more desirable. Just don't be surprised if Hansel and Grettel turn up unanounced asking if your house is made of candy:laugh: Also max, a lawn that well manicured should have a croquet set - fact. When i was at college I got all my too-cool-for-school mates hooked on it for ages. Befor I moved somewhere where such addenda would get hoofed through my window! Best of luck - doing up houses is nearly as much fun as doing up cars IMO
  12. I'm gutted to see this thread.. I was showing my missus your car just the other day, we both agreed it was a belter and my girlfriend can't stand mine (she says I love it more than her - thats simply not true - I love it much, much more than her!) Joking aside, your circumstances do sound pretty conspired against you keeping the Zed - but I'm pleased to see you have your priorities in order (your daughter). Like others have said though, consider your options carefully befor making your decision. Just to clarify the fuel issue though - you would be able to claim some of the money back for your mileage. Its been a while since I did it myself but I believe its something like 17.5 % of £0.40p/mile for first 10,000 miles and £0.25p/mile thereafter. I'm sure someone on here will know exactly. If all else fails and you do have to sell, i'm pretty sure you would get at least 3k for your motor which you could then re-invest into something a little more affordable, but as Micheal Knight said, all cars cost money to run and may not be much cheaper in the long run. Is there anyone you know who would buy your car and then sell it back to you at a later date (family member or such like). Really hope you find a way of sorting it. Best of luck
  13. That's cheating! You've got no boot at all, just one big speaker box! :gunsmilie: But I think that's probably the best way forward. Decent speakers in the front (6x9's or 6's) and a stand alone sub enclosure in the boot. I know you said you don't like the boom boxes, but in terms of sheer performance (I'm humming the prodigy's entire catalogue now..), nothing will touch it. In my experience I very rarely put anything in the boot, but at least if you need to you can just whip it out and hey presto - you can put at least 4 or 5 envelopes in there (lying flat, obviously). Or you go down the above route and actually make something yourself. Just depends how much effort you want to go to really. Good luck
  14. I worked on someone else's barn conversion. They converted an out building into a granny flat. Seemed like a good idea until they took the roof off and the whole gable end slipped about 18 inches away from the rest of the building. Turned out there was no foundations at all. To cut a long story short, the original builder was bankrupted by it and the second company I was working for charged the insurance company twice what the property was worth to put it right. The conservation officer made us strip the building brick by brick (all labelled up like a giant jigsaw) and was very pinickety about putting it back together. End result - customers wish they'd never started - took years to complete and simply wasn't worth the hassle. When these things bite you, they bite you big time. Do plenty of research and have a big contigency (at least 30% of your budget). Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Tales of woe aside though, barn conversions look great and have real character - well worth the effort - in most cases.
  15. I think you should complete the look with some leather chaps and snake skin boots!
  16. I was mightily impressed by that, The bull shows incredible agility to get over that gap between the outer and inner fence. If it were me I'd spare the bull on those ground alone. No doubt it got speared to death, if they didnt put a bolt in it for getting out the ring.. Poor bloody things
  17. Here, here Do I want:- a) an actual honda nsx (one of the greatest Jap cars ever), or b) a load of shoddily fitted fibreglass panels that bend, twist and come off at over 120 mph fitted to what was a damn fine car? Buy a MR2 and roger that instead. 'Tards the lot of em..
  18. Tyres will make a huge difference to your Zeds all-weather ability.. I've got THE cheapest, she-ite tyres on my car. I didn't buy 'em, but I'm quite pleased I've got 'em. Even with a modest prod of the throttle the car is sideways, but I try not to push my luck at serious speeds. I also fully expect my Zed to stab me in the back given half a chance, which is probably the best way to approach it. Expect the worst and hope for the best
  19. My mate has an E46 M3 and I dropped him good and proper until about 140, then he started to pull a little back. My car isn't even highly tuned, so you must be dreaming when you say an M3 is quicker than a Zed. However, on an A-B run where you're really pushing on, I think I'd rather be in the beemer. The chassis is so stiff that it makes the Zed feel like a Japanese biscuit tin (except biscuit tins are made of higher grade steel than zeds). Whether or not its any quicker is debatable, but the M3 definitely inspires more confidence. Just a shame its got about 30hp to little. Air box, exhaust and remap and you're onto a winner. I'd still have my Zed though, M3 drivers are wan**rs. No offence Alan:lol: Oh, and THE best thing about driving the Zed is when its wet.. Born slippy.. Having way too much power is where all the fun is, so its only logical that when grip reduces cos of some lovely rain, that the fun factor goes up. Also the death factor goes up too, but try not to dwell on this. Drive within your limits, especially when going over 50mph - but below that, have a little play and find the cars limits. You'll find the Zed has excellent balance and adjustability. But not very much lock, so don't get to carried away! Oh, and be responsible - its not nice to scare other road users...
  20. Mallory park near me do drift sessions.. Also - try http://www.trackdays.co.uk, they have most of the circuits in the country listed and what sessions are available.. Or, do what I do and get up at 7am on a soggy weekend to go and play on industrial estate roundabouts. Not to fussed about drifting in the dry, requires too much effort to unstick the tyres and you end up going quicker than is ideal. Much more forgiving in the wet.. If you get caught though, mr plod aint gonna be very impressed.. 'Ah, well, you see officer, what happened was...'
  21. Look nearly as Chavvy as Audi 'running lights'. When BMW first brought them out, they were proper cool. Then every saxo and punto started wearing them. Same thing with those bloody audi/merc lights.. Used to look cool, now just look tasteless. Pretty difficult to modify the lights without having an adverse effect on looks, cos the lights are such a substantial element of the overall appearance. Still worth trying, but try somethin original or pretty low key. IMO.
  22. The fact it was off the road so long may have caused a few problems. Sometimes a little often use is better than not using it at all. I'm guessin you're pretty devastated at the mo, but give it a week, see how you feel and go from there. Look at it this way, if you do the turbo change you aint gonna have to worry about them for a good few years. Providing you're sensible with the boost and don't blow the engine, you've already got one of the biggest potential headaches out the way. And just remember, unless you buy a very modern vehicle you'll always be parting with cash over cars.. (some more than others, obviously). I reckon having come this far its worth getting it sorted..
  23. Thanks very much Jimmy:gunsmilie:
  24. Gutted for ya... At least Jeff has perfected the technique for removing the passenger turbo without taking the engine out.. every cloud.. Keep us updated!
  25. How do you get to hoses? Cheers
