  1. Maybe that is his car and that's what happens when you drive off a 20ft drop. Result - slammed! Its not been lowered, the coilovers are poking through the top of the suspension turrets:biggrin: Personally, I like it - something different. I reckon its got Gas suspension, you couldn't actually drive a car that low, it has to raise up to move. Uber cool:thumbup1: As for the thread, lets see some photos. How do you drive off a 20ft drop, at speed and live to tell the tale? If my brakes failed when I'm driving, it wouldn't be until farmer decided to plough his field that anyone would notice my car - several hundred meters from the road... assuming it didnt spontaneously burst into flames after barrel rolling through the field. Hmmm, actually imagining my own fiery death - probably best not to tempt fate. So - c'mon - PICTURES. You cant put a post up like that and then leave it:thumbdown:
  2. Join the AA or something and use your car with confidence. Its better to expose problems and get them fixed, rather than to always have a niggling doubt in the back of your mind. But best to have security, just in case - hence roadside assistance (I havn't, but then, I am absolutely fearless!). Also, I hope you've learnt your lesson now - don't let any old spanner monkey on your Zed.. They're nearly as complicated as women (often as temper-mental too), so only trust a specialist - its probably cheaper as well. And, most importantly, enjoy driving it! I burned £100 of liquid magic this weekend - I did a 160mile round trip just to watch the F1! I even got to dust my mate in his M3 (which cost him 14k) for good measure. Good times
  3. Hi folks, Gave the car a bit of extra TLC on the weekend. Have taken the advice of another forum member (Damo) and invested in some serious car cleaning kit. It wasn't cheap but then, when you break the cost down per wash, it ain't sooo bad. Wish I could post some pics, but unfortunately you can't see the detail, so it would just be more photos of my car, which still looks the same - black etc. Anyway, I was a little sceptical about how much of an improvement all the kit would make, but I have been totally blown away. I'm seriously considering whether I need a respray now, it really is that good! As I'm sure a lot of people know black paint is just an arse to keep looking fresh and moist.. But, regardless of colour - it'll work on any tired looking paint. In fact the worse your paint is to start, the better! We did my mates car first and there was a small improvement, but mine was radically improved. I also think the car is at least 2-3mph quicker now! I bought DO-DO Juice, but other brands are available. 4 steps: 1 - Wash car and chamois 2 - Clay bar painted panels until smooth - then rinse and dry 3 - apply abrasive liquid to clean panels and apply gloss - clean immediately.. 4 - multiple layers of wax Sounds like a ball ache I know - and it is! Only did the front half of my motor, but it helped to appreciate the difference befor/after. I will do the rest next weekend. Only have to do this once every six months or so, just needs regular washing after (thank fooook). SO if any one isn't aware of the magical properties of clay bars and all the other gubbins that goes with them, then give em a try. You'll be well chuffed. Far superior to a standard wax or T-cut. Anyway, I'm sounding far too much like a salesman now. But if you do want your car doing and you can't be arsed, call it a £100 and it'll be ready in 24 hrs! Cheers
  4. Hmmm - decisions, decisions Well if it were me, I'd try and avoid anything mundane.. What are you going to use it for? Or is it just for fun? Personally, I'd like a bash in an Jap Impreza Spec C. I've heard very good things about them, but Ive never driven one. But I have had 4WD cars and the Spec C is one of the best of the breed - so worth considering. If practicality is not an issue though, but you want real driving pleasure - what about a Caterham? I'd have an (V8) M5 over an M3 any day, M3 just feels slow after a Zed. Or, alternatively go for a proper off-roader. Fully customised Defender 90 with all the toys - yee haa :cowboy:
  5. 200mph? That is a real barrier you're trying to break there.. I remember when I was trying to break 200mph on my push bike.. - it felt fine upto 180ish, but then got very turbulent. I tried wearing lycra to overcome the air resistance and that helped me finally get beyond 200. So, hope that helps! On a serious note, I would be very surprised if 200 couldn't be cracked. If you could somehow create a perfectly flat floor to the car, that would make a huge difference to slipperyness and stability. It's also probably another first for a Zed, I would have thought. Obviously it creates a few headaches too, like how do you stop the exhausts melting said flat floor, but from what I've read by other 'speed freaks' it makes a massive difference - really can't stress that enough. Anyway, however you get there, I hope you get there - and back - safely. Best of luck
  6. Glad to hear you got a full compliment of cylinders again. Zed world have helped a great deal to get my car back to health, still a few issues that need addressing, but hey, welcome to Zed ownership! I'm only in Leicester, so if you fancy meeting up some time let me know, always good to see another Zed! As for the repairs, look at it this way: if they didnt need fixing they'd cost an arm and a leg to buy. At least you get to enjoy it for a while in between problems!! Only kidding - Zed ownership ain't all bad - shouldn't have to fix the same problem twice, if you've already had a clutch then you shouldn't need another. Just one less thing to worry about.. Good luck with it anyway bud..
  7. Worthy of praise indeed. The NSX is truly a supercar. If I could afford one I'd have one for sure. As far as 'Halo' models go, the NSX was bang on the money. Variety is the spice of life though, so - while you're extremely lucky to have had a Zed for a first car, its probably best you sample other pleasures. I mean, you didn't marry your first girlfriend did you? Best to sow some oats befor you settle down and spoil things.. So yeah - bang one out in an S2000 for a bit. I have a mag with an article on turbo charging them - apparently someone ran 600bhp on stock internals while on a test bed when developing the turbo package. Tried to break it, but couldn't.. I have the magazine - Banzai, i think - if you ever need it, give me a shout.
  8. Was just trying to find a link for you, but it would seem the car has sold. There was a silver slicktop on autotrader or pistonheads, but not there now. Think they were asking 3.5k - but can't remember the spec.. Doesn't matter... Did you have the auto or manual? Two very different personalities. Both have their respective good points, but a manual will make the car feel more athletic. It is a big car though, so if you've not had much experience handling things with 'real girth' its probably best you wimp out and buy a Honda... Nissan motorsport = NISMO Honda motorsport = HOMO :whistling:
  9. I run a minimum of 30psi in mine for normal driving conditions, more if I'm on a long motorway run or 3 up. Have a slow puncture though (or possibly a bad seal between rim and tyre) so have to put air in it every 3 or 4 weeks as a matter of course - loosing about 4psi normally. Poorly inflated tyres cripple fuel economy, so worth checking regularly. Normally the manufacturer will put the standard operating window on the tyre itself - i.e: 25-45psi. Then its down to personal preference. If its wet I'll drop a few psi out of the front and put a few extra in the rears:devil2:
  10. How did you get on then? Did they manage to resolve the boost issue? What were you're final figures? cheers
  11. I would think that'll help no end, make sure your tyre pressures are good too:detective: (if you havn't already).
  12. Stick with the Zed, But if the rot has set in, don't go throwing good money at it. Sometimes its best to cut your losses. I had a sierra Xr4x4 which was immaculate when i bought it and i spent another 3k modifying it.. I used it for work and did 30k in 2 yrs in it. But then it started developing drivetrain problems - trouble was it had started to rot quite badly, in the end i sold it for scrap. Probably best you invest in a decent one from the off. The S2000 is a decent car, agreed. But its as different as chalk and cheese. The performance is ok, but going from a big cube turbo, to a small engine fizz pot would leave you feeling short changed IMO. Top end power is alright, but there is no torque whatsoever. And... although it handles reasonably, Honda never really nailed it, the later versions were an improvement on the originals, but still managed to miss the mark. Best thing you can do is make a short list of 5-6 potential cars (i would also consider the 200sx, Skyline gts-t, mx5 - mk 1, MR2 - mk2) and drive them all befor you part company with your money. There are so many good RWD jap cars and a few german ones - so shop around. If you still fancy a S2000, then dive in. But ultimately, I'd say get a TT manual and stick with a proper car!
  13. What the hell does it manage when you're booting it?
  14. 23mpg - mixed driving 30mpg - steady 80mph motorway trip Are auto's more economical than manuals due to longer gearing? Normally auto's are heavy on fuel, but then not many are geared for 200mph+ My old sierra xr4x4 would regularly drink 55ltrs of petrol befor getting to 200 miles. That works out at less than 20mpg, so as far as i'm concerned the Zed is very economical
  15. My Zed was exactly the same when I bought it in may, Replaced n/s/r hub bush, n/s/r/ HICAS arm and new rear shocks - feels much, much better now. Whole lot cost about £500 quid at Zed World. Would advise you to get it seen to befor it spits you off the road.. Cheers
  16. Great... Would love to have a go, just need a decent camcorder. Could borrow my mates bullit camera that we use to film our trackdays... would look amatuer-ish in terms of quality though. Maybe a Zed club collaboration would yield some good results? Count me in...
  17. Brilliant.. Just printing out now to put in the lad's tea room for break!! Good stuff
  18. Here, here I second that - imagine what kind of garage you could assemble with that kinda money. Reckon if I spent 100k tuning the Zed, I'd be able to match the in-gear grunt, if not quite the overall acceleration (4WD will always beat 2WD off the line). Would be far more unassuming too.. So that would leave a hefty 900k for other projects I'd always dreamed about, hmmm, might have to start another thread... And sorry to say this, but the SCC Ultimate (...P.o.S) is truly awful. Slap yourselves around the face and take another look at it - it's dreadful in every way. The only time it looks at all decent, is when it's suspended 30ft in the air by a scrap yard crane:lol:
  19. Very interesting, I wonder how many other people misunderstand what octane actually means. I had completely the wrong impression - I thought higher octane fuels were more combustable, not mixed with other chemicals to surpress their flash point.. You learn something everyday.. Thanks very much
  20. And the problem with that is?:lol:
  21. I think we can all sympathise with the effort required to stop things going 'bang' too soon:lol::lol: Good read though!
  22. Just looking at getting the most from what I've got at the mo.. I'm currently running Blitz induction, An upgraded ECU and Japspeed cat back system. I'm not sure if the boost has been tweaked as i don't have a boost gauge. With this in mind what's the optimum octane to run on? I always use 97 ron minimum and occaisionally 99 when its convenient. I can't really tell any difference between them. Certainly nothing like the difference in performance compared to running the Zed on a cool night, rather than a hot day.. Obviously there are plenty of ways to boost octane levels further with fuel additives, but I wondered if it would be worthwhile? If my car has been setup to run on say Jap spec fuel (99ron, i believe), then are the benefits of a higher octane gonna be diminished? What are other people's experiences of this - cheers
  23. Looks like a great car, From what I've heard the Evo IV was the last 'pure' Evo driving experience befor it all got a bit computer controlled. I agree, keep the original wheels - is very easy to make 'em look chavtastic. Enjoy the experience though, the road holding should blow you away, unless you've had a serious 4x4 befor.. Good purchase
  24. 268mph is fine if you have your own private test track with 6km straights. But really, the top speed is about as irrelevant as my pre-nup agreement with Paris Hilton - it ain't never gonna happen (yes, double negative - who cares), what was far more impressive was the way it accelerates to 200mph. Always remember reading about a chap in Germany who bought a Macca F1: the factory called him as the car's telemetry seemed to be sending false speed recordings. Turned out he was actually doing 200mph+ every day on his commute to work. So while 268 is probably too fast for any road, how quickly it gets to 200 is probably still relevant.. As an engineering exercise though, its peerless
