  1. Bit of a random Q but how long is the vg30dett from the crank nose to the tail (flywheel) ? Also, does anybody know if the RB25 and Z32 bellhousings / tailshafts differ?
  2. Wheels are too big/wide but phwoar - that engine bay!!!
  3. Well I found out why it was slow. its a 220hp WRX estate engine in it with a v5 ECU (its a v3) tuned to run a VF turbo and it has a TD05H .... fan tastic.
  4. Well ended up getting the Type R as the 300 really isnt a compromise between practicality and performance.. but the sad thing is the car has uprated downpipe/decat/exhaust/intake/TD05H 16G turbo, yet it's seriously slow compared to a Z with basic bolt ons. 80-100 takes an age in 5th gear (admittedly quicker than my CRX vtec) but I'm sure the Z gets from 60-140mph quicker.. still never mind, it's got the illusion of power with the kick the turbo gives so I'll have to make do :p It's very pretty to look at though.
  5. Yeah I hear at motorway speeds they sit at quite high revs whereas the 300 sits very low.. more of a cruiser. I think I'll go for the R and see what happens, at the worst I can sell it and get the Z if its not all we hope for. As for the soarer, was a 3.0 non turbo and a 4.0 v8 with headers/ecu etc. I think the 2.5tt would have had more potential. Very good at what they were though, hugely reliable.
  6. Thanks Jim! Yeah thats kinda why I edged towards an R 2 door because they are rare in a world of common cars... Overall I drive sensibly just the odd punt.. but I utterly loved the feeling that my car could keep up with fast bikes etc. and had near-supercar performance for a pittence.. I guess the scoobs MPG is better if driven sensibly?
  7. I found my 300zx one of the easiest RWD cars to drive compared to any 200sx/silvia/bmw/merc/toyota I've driven except for perhaps the soarers which are gutless so dont really count..
  8. She already tried in my old 370hp zed and managed alright (better than my CRX vtec which she struggles with).. the scoob has DCCD though (central diff which makes it RWD bias, but apparently it can bite really hard even on straights if theres a loss of traction on boost)..
  9. This is a bit of a difficult situation... I was so close to purchasing an impreza STI Type R (classic 2 door) but suddenly a local TT manual 300zx came up for a little less money. The idea was to get a car which my gf would drive as her first (we cant have 2 cars as there isnt room so has to be one car which is fast, has some degree of practicality and is relatively user friendly)... now we were both set on the Scoob (despite my worries over DCCD and engine failure), but suddenly a 300z has appeared from nowhere. It's an import with forged engine, uprated turbos, pushing dyno'd 430hp at 15psi. I'm hugely tempted as I know the 300 would be faster in almost any given circumstance and the top end is rediculous compared to the STI's 120 or so mph. I cant see RWD being more difficult to learn to drive than DCCD providing its got decent tyres. theres a big list of pros and cons with both cars, but has anybody here owned both (or an impreza RA for comparison) - which makes the better daily car?
  10. From an IT standpoint, though 'users' make up a forum/office etc. they are the biggest hurdle as 99% of the time they can't appreciate or understand the background work that goes on, even with something seemingly 'simple' and want the service working 'now'. I'm quite sure the IT admins on this forum don't have the funds or time to be creating fully testable offline versions before roll-out so we gotta bear with it guys. From what I can see aside from the odd little bug, and perhaps the necessity to upgrade browsers for those still on netscape or AOL they have done a cracking job to keep it running so smoothly. I've been on some other forums running the same software and they aren't being developed half-as well - and that's really something considering how small the userbase on this forum is. The admins should be congratulated for putting in the hours to keep things rolling..
  11. That sounded slightly contradictory -The Z32 is very well suited for drifting compared to some of the more popular cars, but if doing it regularly then save yourself the ballache and get something easier to fix at the side of the road/track.

  13. I've been quite lucky in that I've owned quite a few of popular nissan 'drifting' cars. 2x s13 silvias, 3xs13 200x, 1x180sx type S, 1xs14a, 1xz32 and had a few 'fun' shots of my buddies R34 gtt. I have to say out of all of them the z32 and r34 are by far the most controllable and to me, appropriate to drifting. The s platforms are hugely twitchy without some serious suspension work - my n/a 1.8 s13 silvia was probably the easiest to 'get it right' as the power was linear and controllable (I use the word 'power' very loosely here), at 19 I was able to fishtail really well for ages and hold slides around huge corners with no prior experience. This was before I'd heard of the whole 'drift' scene and just enjoyed having a play. Since then the R34 and the Z32 are the only cars I've felt confident in giving it some hell. The z32 with some wide wheels, a locked/2 way diff and some stiffer suspension would be a riot! But they are also designed to knock out serious speed, and given the difficultly in maintenance for sports like drifting I would suggest sticking to what it's designed for and go for a more fix-friendly nissan for drifting. I've converted for Front wheel drive for now as the gf is learning to drive (got a nice '91 crx vtec) but sorely tempted to pick up a cheap s13 or FC should the opportunity arise.

  15. His previous car was a turbo'd mgzr, but then front wheel drive is hugely different as we all know. And yeah it's a dead straight road, one of the reports is just a 'default pic' of an accident scene..
  16. One report (STV I believe) does mention it's a 'nissan 300zx', another says 'high performance nissan', so def the one :(
  17. Some of you will remember my z32 fairlady. I sold it due to running out of money to fund the addiction to a young lad (18) from up north. I found him on facebook and messaged him pleading to buy it back as I no longer cover half the mileage I used to, and he informed me that he sold it to his friend within 3 weeks (who also messaged me about the car), but unfortunately it snapped on him in the wet after overtaking a van and threw him into a drystone dyke. The car was obviously written off, and the poor lad died at the scene. It's a grave reminder to drive with respect, especially through winter. Report below: http://www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk/News/Tributes-paid-to-Stewart-Milnes-following-tragic-accident-09012012.htm
  18. I pressed 'similar item' after listing a valuesports t2 for a bb4 and couldnt change that bit on the ebay listing  Very rare bit of kit though I had to buy and courier an entire hatch to get it  Poor courier man trying to lift it out the van
  19. np mate, just gimme a shout over email (name's Dave)
  20. Damn straight :D No idea how much I miss the thrills of big speed :)
  21. Hehe, I want the kit and shell. Those illuminated things def aint to my taste ;) Already spent about 3k on my ef8 crx and it's still slow and in crap condition. And looking at another 3k to get it 'quick' and reasonable order.. money better spent elsewhere.
  22. Hi Dave, this looks interesting - wonder if Chris would be interested in selling as is with the broken motor? I'd be willing to pay a bit more than the 2k if it did come with a rebuilt engine, fire me an email to dlongmu@hotmail.com if you wanna chat about it. Thanks, David
  23. a local 300hp astra vxr got the launch on my Z when it was boosted and it kept walking away up to a silly speed. It's a gutting feeling. So there was nothing left to do but strip the Z within an inch of it's life... nothing was left in there lol. That made a big difference, nothing touched it since that point could happily pull away from some big bikes. The gf hates the stripped look and the dog needs a back seat so current car is fully laden :(
  24. Good excuse to switch out the guages for some nice 300kph ones. I had the same thing happen intermittently and it was followed very shortly afterwards (~100 miles) by a non-working speedo guage. Took it out and resoldered all the points, but it didn't fix the speedo - but I didn't think of checking the mph/kph converter!
  25. If it's a UK, watch out for rust, if it's a 2000+ import you should be ok and worth it if it's a manual.. if it's an auto I wouldn't bother.
