Meet anyone?
Guys Im going to sort out some dates soon, honest :D Im trying to get a list of Scottish car shows and events that we can attend and also link up with some of the national meetings. I would rather get all that sorted before arranging a meeting that clashes with something else.

The hoses wont really be any easier or quicker to fit, in fact they may require additional work modifying the securing brackets to suit. As for corrosion the pipe purchased from motor factors is generaly copper or even better kunifer.

You will get brake lines made up at just about any garage for a fraction of the cost of Nissan ones. Its just standard brake pipe that most motor factors sell at a guess about £20 a roll, you will need new end but they are relatively cheap. Biggest hassle will be getting someone to do them at a decent price, you need to lower the rear subframe about 5 inches to get access and that will put a lot of places off, or they will use that to up the price of the job. It aint the best of jobs but can be done without removing the subframe so dont let garages tell you different. I done most of mine at the front of the house a couple of years ago it took me a couple of days, but i wasnt rushing it. a garage should do it far quicker with all their quipment at hand.

Alloy Polishing/Refurbing
I used fine steel wool and then metal polish to finish. I'll need to do it all again though because by the time I get the car back on the road it will be nearly 2 years since I started polishing them :rolleyes:

The tester can't just fail every item because he found one that should, he can only go by whats in the book and as Andy say's most of those items arent part of the test, though some of them may affect other things ie emissions etc he cant just fail them for the sake of it. On the plus side as Legrath say's alot of the work is pretty simple so no need to scrap the car! PM Sent

Alloy Polishing/Refurbing
I used one given to me by a mate who had used it to polish some of the engine casings on his bike. That looks exactly the same kit as the one I was given, though mine has a couple of additional smaller mops. You will need to remove any laquer and smooth the alloy down with some fine emery paper first before polishing.

:) Before putting the car of the road last year I had started to polish my alloys using a similar kit, it is designed to be used by a standard drill although I didnt finish them it did a pretty good job......but then again Im not an expert on all things shiney, unlike yourself :smw:

I like the front and rear spoiler and side skirts. Forget about the interior, chrome strip and badge on the front, the rear lights the different coloured tailgate and that car would look pretty stunning!

Better using cavity wax in the sills, its more viscous and designed to creep into all the nooks and crannies.

Probably arrange the next meeting around about April should be warmer then. there are normally a lot turn up to the cruise its even buisier in the summer, (and yes they were checking cars and tints last night, they didnt see any 300's)

As long as they dont try and steal ma pug :D. Good to see plenty of interest in the meet and hope as many people can attend as possible. Mark hope you can make it before you head back to the heat and you can park next to my moldy old peugeot. For those that have been before, I'm hoping to use the same section of car park, it just depends how busy it is. Everyone else its the car park section in front of the main entrance, just look for the other Z's, a Saab and an old Pug estate. If that area is busy we will just move round to the side faceing the Grangemouth to Falkirk road

the dreaded rust advice needed...
Ive seen a lot of posts blaming the drain tubes, on my car the tubes were badly rusted on the outside, to be expected cause everything else in the area was fooked with rust however there was no corrosion on the inside of the tube and when I tested them they were not leaking. The water is obviously getting in elsewhere people see the rusted drain tube and put 2 and 2 together. As for places to look for corrosion... try the whole car, the more you look the more you find! On mine : front and rear quarter sections of sill areas (including floor sections and front of rear arches) rear lower panels behind the rear arches (behind bumper) Couple of sections of chassis legs, where they are double skinned the water gets in between causing rust to build up and the chassis legs start to bulge out. couple of small holes in the floor behind the front seats, again a double skinned section. ohh and that little bit that seems to go in lots of them in the engine bay just in front of the suspension turret. (o/s on mine) Im sure i'll find some more as I go :D PS. aint any rust behind the rear seats.... I must have one of the better cars then :rofl:

HID's DFT official view
There is no reason for failure at MOT for HID's being fitted as long as they are working, headlamps correctly aligned and the correct beam pattern is produced it will pass. MOT test regulations and construction and use regulations are different! Not saying it wont change in the future, but it would be hard to enforce if the balasts are hidden an MOT station couldnt prove HID's are fitted, they are not allowed to strip anything to check.
