The Extent of the damage.
fits in mine with about 1 foot at the rear and 4 inches at the front, just enough room to open the boot and close the garage door lol Well its in bit of a state to say the least and im having to do heaps of work on it to get it back to how it should be, i have started a journal but you need to be registered to view it, but once i make some major progress and she starts looking like a nice car again, ill get some pics up for you to view. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi ya Pete, im really struggling to make sure i have everything ready for this engine out job, not even sure what i really need, i have tools, i have ramps, hydraulic jack, wheel chocks, Axel stands, plenty of room if i need it just out side the garage, cuppa tea / coffee courtesy of SWMBO, haven't the foggiest what oil to top her up with, as I've heard so many different numbers, 10/40 5/40 15/40, fully synthetic, semi synthetic...., i know im going to need to replace the coolant and I've covered that, do i need to empty the A/C system? or is there a work around for it? If anyone who has done this them selves could give some hints and tips id very much appreciate it. (for those that don't know, SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed)

repair needed help!!!!!
Id damn well say so, and if he kicks up a stink phone the police and say its theft, that's taking the P a bit, i feel for you on the car too, as I've just bought one that blew after just 18miles, im now looking at a engine swap for my new one sometime this week. Get your car back and go take it to Zed world, I've heard nothing but good praise from them, if mine all goes tits up, ill be talking to Jeff also, only reason its not at Jeff's this moment is i have a baby being born sometime soon, so most of my funds are on hold until the new arrival.

The Extent of the damage.
Unfortunately that's how it looked when i picked it up a week ago, engine blew on the way to the MOT station, made it just 18miles doing no more than 60mph, only owned it since 17th of September, but couldn't collect it till 9th of October due to work commitments and a 4 day trip. Its been sitting on the isle of Uist in the outer hebrides for a year and half rusting away until i bought her. shes will be getting all fixed up though, got a new engine coming on Wednesday for her, shes just had her interior cleaned, but cant take photos at the moment garage is too dark and the flash will just ruin the effect. Still trying desperately to find a 2ton engine crane, but the only place near me that rents them out, only does half ton ones, defo not man enough to tackle the 300zx V6 with gear box attached.

Planet X
2012.....hmmm Aztec calendar, when the earth is in alignment with the center of the galaxy, when someone has to purchase a new calendar, I love all this hype, so what if the mayan calendar ends, ours do every year (always seems to be around the 31st of December too), and who can forget the millennium bug, hahaha what a pile of tosh that was, scaremongering to sell something, when all you had to do was set your clock to 31/12/1999 and see what happened to your things the next day?.....nothing lol. How many people fell for that "software" that made the millennium bug disappear, on their computer? then say the reason nothing happened was because i used such an such. Just wait till it gets nearer the day, im sure someone will be trying to make a quick buck off it somewhere. oh yeah, this might come true after all, we Brits need some excuse as to why the 2012 olympics have gone slightly over budget lol

Zed no more
Good luck bud, shame about the Zed though, looked nice even with a lamppost on it.
-
Zed no more
You know its going to be very hard to prove it was there fault right? mainly due to you driving a Zed high powered car, them driving a fiesta, plus you were on your own, were there any witnesses and are they willing to go to court if necessary? This is where that road hawk really would of paid off. Glad your OK though matey, hate to see anyone involved in a car accident, just make sure your OK bud, shock is very good at hiding emotional trauma when something like this happens.

The Extent of the damage.
Anyone near Northampton who i can rent a engine crane from? or even lend a hand? its kinda upsetting seeing my car in the garage and not being able to drive it :( If tea and coffee isn't enough, how about bacon butty, or egg and bacon butty... or candle lit dinner (think the misses might have something to say about that though) Also, can i get some advice from someone who's done this sort of thing before please. First its a Engine from a Auto, is there anything i need to do to make sure its going to connect to my manual gear box? Second, What fluids do i need once its in? i know about engine oil, coolant for the rad, anything else? Third, How do you go about depressurising the fuel line when you cant start the engine?

Which lambo
I have an excuse, i was born there lol
-
Which lambo
Murcielago by far, specially the GT version, wasn't the cala designed by Italdesign? But i have to disagree with Si on the best looking super car, that title goes to the Mclaren F1, that is just sex on wheels, and if they hadn't taken it out of the showroom on park lane id probable still be there shagging the exhausts....

Spacers,offsets & tyres advice
careful what height you lower your car too, the zed is already lower than most standard cars, mines been lowered by 40mm all around and im having difficulties doing certain things on it, not helped by the fact i need to replace an engine and can only get a trolley jack under it with two people lifting the car either side using the wheel arches (that im not pleased about), So i might even have to raise it slightly just so i can work on it more comfortably.

The Extent of the damage.
Only problem i can see with doing it my self, is wondering if i can get the clearance to get to the gearbox to take it off the drive shaft. I have no problem with trying to tackle the job my self, i just haven't done an engine change..... ever lol Id prefer someone there who has done it before, not for them to do it for me, but for them to be there if something goes tits up, make sense?
-
The Extent of the damage.
Id Say, i don't mind gives me something to do, and hopefully going to be worth it, got to go pick the new engine up on Wednesday, still unsure whether i do the swap my self or get Jeff at Zed world to do it, if i did it my self id defo need some help due to not wanting to bugger anything up on the car. just not sure if i even have enough clearance to get the gearbox off or not.

The Extent of the damage.
Just been out to the car, and just about managed to get the jack under it to put it on axel stands and get a few pictures of the damage if it was visible... Is all i can say to be honest. anyway here are the photos Oil filter to the right of frame, oil pan showing "blow Out" hole better angle showing main damage need to do some rust removal. a pipe that goes nowhere? i have one the same on the other side looking at it, you would think that this engine worked
