SWB vs LWB (Newbie Question)
I have the LWB and I'm very happy with it.... would have gladly bought a SWB if one was available when I was looking.... My understanding is that some parts are a bit harder to come by for the SWB... and so just like the car can command more money....

LeoEs car refusing to idle
don't use conzult to do the timing... use a timing light.... conzult will always say 15.... (ask Jeff if you don't believe me)... Set the timing to 15 with the timing light....
-
Rear indicator LED's
you will need 382 ba15s type bulbs for the indicators and you will have to put either resistors on each one or get ones with resistors built in or do the relay mod in the FAQ section.... i have led's in the indicators all round...

Rocker Cover Oil leak
also check the post by Jeff about the connector from the PCV to the rocker covers... that could be the issue.... would give the same symptoms...

rear fog light
LOL.. Ah I see... yes.... I was a touch confuse by the "some dumb people would think my brake lights are stuck on. especially around here" I obviously underestimated the dumbness (if that's a word) of some of your locals......
-
rear fog light
I meant both sides of the reverse lights.... :) I didn't do the break light at all..
-
rear fog light
yeah, I did the same as you but on both sides.... I just looked up the VOSA regs on rear fogs and Jeff is correct that would pass fine... http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/doitonline/bl/mottestingmanualsandguides/mottestingmanualsandguides.htm
-
rear fog light
Jeff, with the new MOT regs will this still be OK.... from what I could see you can't use the same bulb that is currently in use for tail or break light for a fog. I hope I'm wrong as that would make it for a few people's set-ups.

Changes to MOT rules in 2012 - Are you ready?
yeah.. agreed... :) it's only the plod one I'm concerned with.. realistically you can do anything in advance and then change it back after an MOT but getting pulled is a different thing... it's best to be pre armed... and be able to prove it..

Changes to MOT rules in 2012 - Are you ready?
yeah... but I think you'll find that that applies to "factory fitted" not "after market"... and that doesn't mention washers. as this line clearly says: “The Department for Transport considers that after-market systems should be required to meet the same safety standards as that applied in respect of these lamps at vehicle Type Approval. Therefore, in order to pass the MOT test, vehicles fitted with after-market HID systems would also need to be fitted with headlamp cleaning and self-levelling systems.” again it will be down to the tester and their interpretation of the rule.... however the only real get out of jail free line written in the regs (as far as I can see is): “It is also worthy of note that a few high performance vehicles fitted with HID headlamps that have barely any luggage space and stiff suspension do not require a self-levelling system.” It would be great if anyone can find a line in the regs (not just hearsay, as that doesn't wash with the cops... lol... 'wash') that gives cause to exempt the the washer jets.

sheared bolt
I hope that isn't a dig at my post.... :)... I did say "can't you use something like this...."

Changes to MOT rules in 2012 - Are you ready?
yeah, you could use that as an example but the old bill prefer to see things in black and white... if there is a rule in the regs that exempts you that is much better than just words. :) so I'm suer we can get away without auto levellers but washer jest may be a littler more difficult since the rules don't seem to have an exemption for that, unless its somewhere else to do with imports.

Changes to MOT rules in 2012 - Are you ready?
not quite true..... you will need working headlight washers (see the rule below from VOSA) it's blatantly apparent that even if your MOT tester lets you off on some things the old bill may still pick you up on it and that would be trouble for both you and the tester (might be work printing the regulation and keeping a copy in the car). This is the VOSA instruction/rule… http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/repository/technicalpenpicture3-lighting.pdf “Products on the lens or light source’ is now an RfR as well the previous ‘excessive damage or deterioration” So any tinted front, side or rear light will be a failure…. Quite a few of us have HID’s and this has been a major point of concern as the VOSA guideline is: “The Department for Transport considers that after-market systems should be required to meet the same safety standards as that applied in respect of these lamps at vehicle Type Approval. Therefore, in order to pass the MOT test, vehicles fitted with after-market HID systems would also need to be fitted with headlamp cleaning and self-levelling systems.” BUT… in our favour: “It is also worthy of note that a few high performance vehicles fitted with HID headlamps that have barely any luggage space and stiff suspension do not require a self-levelling system.” So as long as you have headlight washers (and they work) they should be a pass…..

Which one would you have?
a mate has a TT (1JZ), nice cars and quick, however the system has been restricted and the back turbo seems to be a regular problem... parts are a bit harder to come by than for the z... If you do a bit of work on one it will go like stink, my mate did a single turbo conversion with intercooler and the difference is amazing. a regular issue seems to be the fuel pump as well... I don't know much about the V8 but it's not as quick.
