They all look very similar how far they jump around an inch, at a guess, Have not measured gaps their new plugs but bosch ones so was waiting for a set to be sent of ngk to make sure it aint them. Thought it may have a break in the wire that under certain conditions breaks the contact and the touches again making coil spark. but have wiggled everything with no joy.

Had ptu off again today and cleaned it still same, also timing when set at 15btdc it backfires worse but if i turn ptu to its maximum dont backfire as loud but still their thats why i took cambelt off all marks are dead on now and still the same and timing back at 15btdc. Thank you.

popped my chipped ecu, so running standard one which is doing the same, have series one but tried a couple making no differance, idles great well better then ever, stays exactly round 750rpm on clock but if you really sit in drivers seat with hand on gear stick you can feel it moving around a little but you really have to feel for it, My car is white and a few hours of driving after washing it i get a black rear bumper lol but again its allways done this,and that was with chipped ecu have not drove it much with standard ecu and have not washed it so its black anyhow lol. Cheers for reply mate, dont worry next time i spin the car about i will be in love again. Thing is im a mechanic and cant find out whats wrong, would rather a blown turbo or something atleast i know where i stand, might have to take boonet off and and get in engine bay and let me brother drive it up the road so can have a fiddle when its doing it, (only joking) Cause when its on the drive it revs perfect unless i blip the throttle to 2100 rpm and get a big bang. but all happens to quick to find anything.

No smoke at all, if i boot the car its great smooth as silk, tickover is smoothest its ever been its just that backfire its making me think a break somewhere, shutting the coil off then when it gets its power back sparking but at the wrong time.

Engine Misfire / limiter issue Maybe?
I have same problem 3kids, but normally have another car for my daily for misses and kids, but only have van at moment 2 seats lol. My exuse is when we go out together in summer only me and her with roof off it will be a great car, But it seems to be proving me wrong. Mine went ok for about 7months when i first got it, then the dreaded auto box went so converted it to manual and had full respray, but it was a uk model and started getting couple of scabs on the seals again, so bought a manual jap spec with no rust at all. and reshelled car had it sprayed white put all my uk interior bits in, then turbos went replaced them with stage2 turbo technics, then bottom end went put another engine in, then reconditioned turbos failed again stage 2 turbo technics ones, so got another engine and a guide pulley on the cambelt the one between 4 cams pulled the thread out and smashed engine, so got another engine ment to have 35000 miles so put the engine and turbos in and now have a misfire, Thats without new shocks clutches,hicas bushes,hicas arms and anything else i have bought, so misses is really getting annoyed. Goodluck with car mate, mine as been a real pain, but has i said in my thread think my mate as had his without a problem for 7years other then autobox. So they can be good cars and i love mine when its running well.

Not you with a misfire too lol. bloody things im pulling my hair with mine. Think your best pulling all the coil and injector connectors plus ptu and cas connectors see if their green and not broke and pushed on correctly, Its not worked on mine lol, but hopefully it will on yours goodluck.

Hi again, Put cambelt back together today and started her up still the same:angry: so pulled the coils out one by one and put a plug in to see if i could see any arching out, when end of plug is on the engine sparks as normal, but if i face plug in the air and put the plastic shaft bit near metal i do get slight arching but the problem is i can get all 6 coils to do it, either their all broke or its one of them and cause it dont do it all the time its getting hard to find. So dont know where to go from here its either drive it until it gets worse that its easy to find or suffer it. Would a coil make big gun shot type backfires, to me its like its got to be a trigger problem or a break somewhere making coil fire at the wrong time. But why only when the revs come down from 2100rpm. and in higher gears when driving slow then trying to accelerate without going back gears. Im lost and to be honest im getting sick of the car, i re shelled it and painted it 3times, its had 3engines 3sets of turbos an auto box and this is the 2nd manual box. clutch after clutch, shocks bushes, you name it its had it and it still wont run right, i am allways skint cause the car gets nearly every penny i earn spent on it, problem is its like a never ending story i have it painted and it looks great then the engine/turbos or something horrid will go then by the time i sort money out and fix it, it gets a few stone chips supermaket dents, and has im so fussy it needs painting again, in the last year and half i have spent 6000 on paint, could have bought a mint zed for that alone. i just want it painted so it looks great and everything to run great for just one yr. Then you see my mates one in london his had a few problems with auto boxes but other then that its never bloody broke. Sorry for going on but gotta say it to someone misses will kill me if she hears me say it has its what she has been saying for years, and i keep saying to her once its done we will be able to drive and enjoy it, Please tell me if i am dreaming or could this actually one day happen, Thank you.

Hi guys, this misfire thing is still driving me mad, Was checking all wiring and 2 wires on fuel pump relay touched where a previous alarm or something has been wired in, which popped my chipped ecu, so had to put standard one back on and remove boost jets, so its running around half a bar (safe mode) for the minute, but its still messing around so guess that rules out a boost cut or blowing out the spark, changed maf with another i had spare, Plus ptu, Cas, PLus connections on temperature switch. and even changed tps, Checked ecu socket and all connections under bonnet wiggled everything and everything seems good. I have noticed if i blip the throttle in neutral from tickover to 2100rpm exactly, the second the revs start coming back down i get a big pop like a gun shot from the exhaust, Any higher or lower when i blip the throttle it wont do it, Have done a compression test and either my compression tester is messing around and it wont go over 152psi or every cylinder is identical, cause they are all on 152psi which i know their ment to be very similar but never tested a car and found them all to be exact. So today advanced the timing to its maximum the cas will let it go and pop in neutral was still their but very slight, So pulled covers off to check cam belt marks, they lined up with cover marks pretty well, so carefully took cambelt off without anything moving and refit the belt using belt marks, but its very hard to tell but looks like it could have been 1 tooth out on the last cam (cas), Still got to fit it all backup tomorrow to know for sure, but what i was thinking if it was out by one tooth wouldnt it be noticable on the compression test and through out the whole rev range not just one point in the revs in neutral and when poodling along say in 5th at slow speeds and then trying to accelerate without dropping back a gear, (my last engine i could be in 5th from about 35mph and it would still pull no problem at all) When its cold i know you shouldnt go mad but if i try to accelerate it just holds back and pops and bangs. Anyone else got any thing they would recomend checking or had anything similar, any help appreciated. thank you.

They were black, but running central 20 ecu, so is running a little rich, But its only just started doing it, before use to pull from 30 mph in 5th, without a problem, now its pop pop bang bang, lol.

Me 2 lol, But my problem didnt go away with the new fuel must have dreamed it. Took it for a drive today and its still their mainly in 5th if i go along around 2000rpm, put my foot to the floor it starts to pick up like normal, you can watch the turbos spool up on the gauge and once the car hits maximum boost 14psi on both gauges it starts playing up by jerking around and you get some big gun shot loud backfires. Changed ptu, and maf, No difference. pulled all coils and plugs had a look to see if i could see anything but gonna have to get some new plugs (have no spares) and then try them with some spare coils i allready have, Gonna check tomorrow for boost leaks and make sure all connections are clean, Other then that im lost, i will just have to boot it around everywhere instead of trying to cruise in 5th lol.

Hi Thanks for all the replys, Think it may be my thought, last time i drove it only put a tenner in it and drove it home, Put more fuel in and seems ok, weird though as its only 2miles home from garage and even a tenner should have gave it around 7litres, unless its doing 2 to the gallon lol, Or the fuel was crap bp ultimate, Cheers again 4replys.

Hi guys, What do you reckon on this one, When driving if i put my car say in 3rd while going slow and put my foot down, it starts to build up power but as soon as my turbo gauge hits maximum boost it starts hesitating, popping, and backfiring. It revs fine, then you can watch the turbo gauge build up to it hits the top of the standard gauge,(running 14psi have after market gauge too.)and as soon has it hits full boost the car plays up, But if i rev it normally say hold it in gear its fine, only does it when in a gear where your down low in the revs and try to build up power, Hope that makes sense, Any help appreciated, thank you.

lower power at higher revs
Hi guys, Got another strange one, Seem to have loads of power until 3500rpm, Car seems to be running fine, Not missing or holding back or anything just dont seem to have the same grunt after 3500rpm, Its that weird if i am doing 70 - 80mph in 5th gear and accelerate it feels like it has more torq and a pulls a lot quicker then if i drop it back gears, Also i have noticed that the sound from exhaust is throaty and cars pulling hard then it hits 3500rpm and exhaust noise is less throaty and just hear turbo noise, it has no boost leaks and is running 14psi, retarded the timing a little bit today and power will go up the rev range a little but is still pretty flat at high revs, Any suggestions from the experts please...

Cheap skate centre arm rest re-cover
Hi everyone, Was bored again today lol, and was cleaning out garage and noticed i had two sets of targa covers and was gonna throw a set, Then looked at my worn tweed centre arm rest, so cut up one for a laugh and covered my arm rest and was quite shocked it came out bloody well, well a damn site better then it was anyway, And it seems to match the dash colour well too. Take some photos tomorrow and put them up, Its a free way of making it look better and have one and three quarters of the targa covers left incase it needs recovering again lol, Used some spray glue and an hair dryer to stretch it round the corners better, Was really easy to do too. Strange knock, diff?
Hi mate cant say if its normal, but i done a clutch change on mine couple weeks ago and noticed the same thing, if you twist prop i get about half inch ever way before it goes solid diff end, get clonk if i come off and on throttle hard, originally thought gearbox mount or something but seems to be the slack in the diff, Also got an helicoptor type noise at speed, be interested to know if its normal diff end too, goodluck mate.

Wind and road noise
Cheers guys 4 all the replys i was expecting - you got a sports car why do you want it more quiet and heavier buy a bmw or audi instead lol, sy gt - only stuffed it in the rear quarters the wool stuff that is, in the doors used that dynomat stuff (Has far as i know that dynomat stuff dont really sound proof that much from road noise more for stereos and making panels sound more solid) but wanna put some kind of soundproof on the outside of door between door and pad, Has i was worried about them drain holes, Has you say it shouldnt be in some places has sponge would hold water so be careful everyone where you put stuff, Hollow point - you can still hear the engine so dont panic lol, But sounds more solid like in new big motors still rumbles but not all ratterly - i think the engine sounds more meaty hear the throaty noise from exhaust without the rattles taking sound away. sexy craola what you using cause i think foam or underlay type stuff seems better then that stick on stuff, just get some underlay and make yourself a luxary barge, big c - when you respray it would be best time to do it exspecially if changing the color atleast you can blow in the shuts and doors, good luck and what colour you having done, i had mine merc artic white, which i think looks good with black roof bars, makes the whole roof look like glass, goodluck everyone and thanks again for replys.

Wind and road noise
Hi guys, Was bored last few days and the zed has been driving me mad with rattlerly interior wind noise and road noise, I re shelled the car a while back and ever since bits of the dash and interior seem to have little rattles and the whole car seemed noisy, So decided theirs only one thing for it rip the lot out lol, pulled everything the dash, roof lining, interior carpets every last bit, the neighbours think im mental (expecially when they asked whats wrong with it and i said the interior had a little rattle) Well the roof lining is ment to have sound proofing (brown bread) the whole front part was missing, Bits of the interior is ment to have it too, can see where it was once stuck and must have fell off while changing everything over, So got a load of about 1 inch thick sponge type foam stuff, and used it as underlay under the whole carpet, and everywhere else i could fit it behind panels, the carpet feels nice now wanna drive with me shoes off so thick and soft, used wadding like cotton wool type stuff and stuffed it in the rear quarters as much as i could force in, the differance if you tap the rear quarters was amazing, from the sound of a coke can to a thump, And used some roofing bitumen sticky stuff Got from misses dad, just like that sound proofing stuff you can buy, i used that inside the front doors, again you tap the doors and they sound heavy not like their made of tin, (only thing i wanna do still on the doors is get somthing to go between the doors and the door pad maybe rubber sheeting - anyone got any ideas) Has the stuff i used is ment to be more for stereos, not so much for sound proofing. cable tied all wires behind dash, and used bits of sponge between bits that sound like their gonna sqeak, Well took it on motorway tonight and the differance is amazing, so much quieter noticed the differance on start up the engine sounds like its in the distance kind of echoy, even misses noticed that, before if i reved engine it seemed quite loud and seemed to vibrate through the car making things rattle, now its like the car parked next to you is reving if you know what i mean, Before i re shelled the zed the car use to feel quite refined, People would get in it like my mum and think its gonna be rough, ratterly and noisy and be shocked that it was pretty smooth and Quiet, then i reshelled it and it was to be honest horrible, had to have stereo blaring to hear it everything ratterling just done my head in on longer journeys, now it seems even better then ever and it was pouring with rain so could hear the water on the road but still better then normal in the dry, Im sure the sponge under the carpets is a lot to do with it, even though with the standard carpets and original mats they are thick with this sponge under them your feet just sink lol, Its a rolls royce of a zed now, Bet i get some stick for this most people wanna rip what they can out, But i like a car to be quick but then if you go for a drive can be quiet and a nice place to be in too. Anyhow sorry if i bored you all with the long thread, and sorry i didnt take any pics, Thanks for reading.
