  1. I had full Spax adjustable suspension on mine, bought brand new as well! Handled amazingly well. Loved that car, and I used to get 40mpg out of it.
  2. I'm not missing any point. Have you considered the logistics and the required policing of such an 'event'? How long before two people plough into each other? Then who foots the bill? You'll need marshalls, safety teams etc. RWYB/DWYB is cheap enough and manned appropriately. Plus you get something for your time/money. I think it's a terrible idea if the only upside is that it stops you driving like a tool in McDonalds. The video is bad, but it happens in other territories too, it's nothing new. Usually a Corvette is the culprit. Something something Darwin. And yes, I drove spiritedly when I was younger. Sometimes in shitty hatchbacks I hasten to add. I lived in Whitby, which as a town could only be accessed by some of the best roads in the North. We all had shitty hatchbacks, we used to park up in the Co-Op car park and chill out. Or just cruise round & round picking up girls. Even at that age, I knew that if I dumped the clutch I would create some smoke & noise, and even at that age I realised it would be completely stupid to do it surrounded by people or at a fast-food car-park. So we took it out into the country roads and scared ourselves silly at night and learned how to drive properly. You can hoon around and have a shred of intelligence. It's not mutually exclusive. As soon as I had a half-nippy car (Cavalier GSI 2000, 17 years ago) I took it to Pod with some mates and had an amazing time. That worked for me just fine, and still does. So, to me, whilst being a slightly better idea than making 11s at Maccy D's, it is still a shit knee-jerk reaction idea to some numpty in a Fiesta going bowling. IMO :)
  3. Say what? You want to pay £20 to drive like a tool on some "wasteland"? Burn outs & handbrake turns? Seriously? Sounds great :wack: Why not just take it to a drag strip? Or go drifitng.
  4. Hahaha, I typed the following last night at 1.30am before succumbing to the Sandman: Finally home, possibly the most sleep-deprived I've ever been (in the last 4 days I've had 30 mins outside PowerZed in my Clio 172, 1hr in some random service station on the M5 and 1hr just now at a friend's place). All this to go exactly 0.1s SLOWER and 1mph faster than last year! However, given that the car was running a rudimentary map created on the way from Leicester to York on Sunday morning, the potential for the current set up makes me very happy indeed. Having arrived late on Sunday at 12.30pm, I was only able to make 6 runs in total! I only put one good 1/4 together to achieve 12.72s @ 114mph (putting me 7th out of 16) but the top speed event went much better, with a PB of 148.8mph over a standing KM, placing me 4th out of 13. Overall, I'm quite happy with the result. Out on the road, it's a different matter altogether, the car is an utter animal running 1.6 bar :w00t: A MASSIVE thanks to Jimmer @ PowerZed and Jaffa, without whom I would never have made it to TOTB 2014! Shout out to Mark @ Automodz as well Apologies to anyone wanting to discuss tuning with me, I was in no fit state and running on fumes :wack: Time for some :sleep1:
  5. Heading up the M5 after finishing everything and having a most welcome pitstop at Jaffa's whilst stealing more goodies for my Zed. Unless the unexpected happens, will see you all later today once the car is mapped :D
  6. .... and I don't need to: Happy Daze! Now I just need to get the engine back in and map the thing. That'll be a fun drive up on the Saturday! This week has seen the following completed: Manual Conversion OSGiken Twin Plate clutch 850cc injectors, Border fuel rail, Aeromotive FPR, braided lines Solid engine mounts (Thank you Mark @ Automodz) Twin GT2870 conversion & custom actuator install EGR & plenum water deletes To do: Ensure the new Blow-Through OEM MAF set up works satisfactorily (may run with the turbo compressors open) Fit the exhaust system - and what an exhaust the front half will be  Fit the Nitto 555s to my new UK rear wheels (Thanks again Mark!) Fine tune the launch control on the prototype Turbonoz ECU :D Go Racing! This is by far the most insane preparation shedule I've ever tried before TOTB. It's usually just a case of me & Damien (pit crew :D ) ripping the interior out and him fabricating seat rails for me! My car has been completely transformed in just 4 evenings and I don't have a clue how it will perform or more importantly, how long for! No time to get it on the dyno, either. All this just for a few runs on Sunday, then it'll all be coming out again to fit the proper T04E turbos. Why? Because Racecar :D
  7. I've not been able to get through to Dave...
  8. My old S13 used to blow the dipstick out every time up the strip running a TD06-20G. Never smoked, made 382bhp @ hubs (highest on a stock CA18DET in the world at the time as far as I'm aware) and just kept going & going.
  9. Some people have said she rarely discloses much information, but I didn't find her obtuse at all.
  10. A bit of a nightmare all round. It didn't smoke any more at 18psi than at 10psi though and it wasn't a failure so to speak and it definitely isn't "blown up". There is crank case pressure building up, but it would need further tests as discussed to pinpoint the exact issue. The amount of smoke from the start was very worrying though. It's a massive shame, as the GTX2860 turbos need at least 22psi to be efficient, and the 10psi actuators are definitely not suited to the job. I've had some ideas and will discuss with you after the weekend. :(
  11. Sad times! With not enough time to get the T04Es in place, I've had to settle for some GT2870 hybrid Churbos to get the car ready for the weekend & TOTB. No space in front of the inlet even with these little things, so still have to go for a different MAF set up. Massive shout out to Jimmer for taking on this horrible task. Huge props to Jaffa for all his help as well

  13. Fresh oil & fuel at least. Crank it without starting to build oil pressure and ensure everything is nicely coated.

  15. It makes for an amazing drive. So much torque at low revs :)
  16. Who claimed that? JECS make all 3 brands you've just said are better than JECS....
  17. Oh, I've had some issues with Deatschwerks injectors from a mapping point of view, and back in the day they were notorious for failing.
  18. Sorry, I did try to lighten the tone :)
  19. Hahaha, I reckon we'd spend more time hurling abuse & spanners at each other than working on Zeds :slap: I'm already teamed up with PowerZed & Automodz :cool3:
  20. Jeff, just read what was written. For the last time, there was no dig at you or any service you provide. I'm not having you say I'm patronising any members, or being unconstructive with the posts I make, thanks. I try & give as much help & info as possible in the areas I feel I am best suited to. Hence why I don't post about suspension, bodykits, ICE etc. I know enough, but there are people that know far more. Items I sell for other marques have nothing to do with anything, the majority of the chips I sell are for naturally aspirated motronic-equipped vehicles. This is the second time you've brought it up, I suggest you leave it. Any service you offer has nothing to do with me. There's no point going into details about anything because it'll end up locked (http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?177500-Jeff-at-zedworld) and besides, it's just not the place. With regards to the "bigger picture", anyone that has had their car mapped by me will hopefully testify to how thorough I am and the amount of detail I go into if the person is interested. No idea what the "kudos" remark is about, I increase my Kudos Points by pushing the boundaries of stock systems, not from mapping people's cars. The "bigger picture" as far as setting up a turbocharged car consists of AFR, knock limits, heat-soak, transient response, safety margins, throttle response, off-boost performance, spark plug type, mechanical limits of clutch, turbos, engine internals etc, owner expectation, previous bodges, current bodges, future plans and so on. These are some of the variables I consider when mapping a car and advising on builds with people. So yes, in future if you think I actually need to have a dig at any service you provide, just take a step back and think for a minute. I really don't need to put down other people's work and our services are very different :thumbup1: My comment was aimed at anyone thinking that running 1 bar is a sensible option on a Mine's ECU. It's brave to do :wack: Dannyfiveforty: It's not the AFR, JDM maps are usually rich. It's the advanced timing in the transitional & high load areas that can cause an issue with knock.
  21. Don't believe the hype :D HKS, Tomei, Nismo & Apexi are all rebranded Unisia JECS injectors. Sard, Blitz & GReddy are all rebranded Denso injectors.
  22. Tried calling him this evening. Not long now!
  23. Here we go. I have more experience in mapping than yourself I believe. You sell JWT chips, you don't map cars. I sell chips too. They are my own. I could mention a few cars that have needed chips removing that have been dumping a ridiculous amount of fuel down the bores, but hey ho.... Anyway, I wasn't even having a dig, nothing was aimed at you in the slightest. If you have an issue with something I have written, try calling me before the usual tirade. It's the fact someone's answer was "1 bar" without fully understanding the difference between a Mine's ECU and a map suitable for UK fuels. I know you don't use Mine's ECUs, IF you did and set them up at 1 bar, then... that's brave. Simple. The only point worth making is that there is no safe answer to the OP's question when you look at his list of modifications. I don't need to address anything that you mention on this particular thread. If OP runs more boost than he is now on that set up, with pump fuel, it is NOT safe. Please don't patronise me. When you have mapped as many cars as I have in the last 10 years, let me know as I'm always happy to listen to experience. Noel.
