Very Disturbing
The better program a few weeks ago was 5 ways to combat global warming, and posed some interesting theory as well as the 5 ways to combat it... The Earth has indeed gone through several cycles over millions of years. However, mans polution of late is not totally to blame, and polution from the industrial revolution, at the same time as as krakatoa and other volcanoes were erupting, was shown to actually help to cool the earth by blocking the suns rays and filtering Ozone! so much so, that Professor Paul Crutzen won the Nobel Prize for suggesting one of the 5 ways, was to shoot rockets into space to release a 'sulphur screen'... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/6369971.stm Whilst i appreciate we all need to make an effort, the UK needs to look beyond our Island bubble!......Until we can get emerging third world nations, (India, China etc ) to follow our lead we will never make a difference...most of Eastern Europe are still using coal fired power stations for example, never mind the polluting inneficient cars they drive! Also most oil rich nations, like the U.S, Saudi arabia, kuwait, as well as the United Arab Emirates, where i have lived, would consider our 3.0 twin turbo's a bit micky mouse! Everyone there drives 5 litre chevvy gas guzzlers and fills them up for less than a quarter of the cost we do here in the UK! If i feel guilty driving the Z, then i look to these examples and i feel that i am more than doing my bit, as the Z is also a second car now and only used at weekends! If the hike in fuel taxes or carbon emissions was linked to funding assistance of emerging countries to learn from our mistakes, and help them pollute less, or stop us shipping 15,000 tonnes a week of our rubbish to china, (http://www.guardian.co.uk/waste/story/0,12188,1308278,00.html) that is as well as our polluting industrial equipment, then i wouldn't mind so much. As it stands, i feel its all just a political smokescreen to fleece me of even more hard earned money, just for going to work!! :smash: Right, rant over, i'm off to sort my recycling for the morning and put thd bins out!!...and wonder again tonight if my recycling is actually being recycled, landfilled, or shipped to China for the low paid to sift through and recycle and earn a few pence a week!!....food for thought if nothing else..

hand held speed camera
Thought i'd post up that there are various rules for the use of guns and mobile cameras etc Not only was yours from behind, which i think you pointed out must be from the front, but it's also on a bend which would significantly vary the reading!! I read alot about guidance at http://www.pepipoo.com which is a great site for advice and assistance...

Old tw@t on A19 caused accident
Today: Citroen Transit type Van broken down in the outside lane of Dual Carriagway (Supposedly knackered Clutch cable)....just off the A470 on the A468 exit toward Caerphilly...on a hill so nowhere to coast to, no verge, metal barriers right up to the white lines on both sides of the carriageway, and no where to go except backwards onto a busy roundabout.... :( I was travelling in the opposite direction toward the roundabout (from Caerphilly), I spotted the guys behind the barrier and the stranded van in the outer lane...an accident waiting to happen. So being a good citizen i looped around the roundabout, put my Hazards on, pulled in to the left afew hundred yards before teh obstruction so as not to block teh carriageway completely and asked them if they wanted me to tow them up the hill to safety.... :) Anyway, I moved the van outa the way for them, but had to jump into the central reservation twice while fitting my towing bar to my Golf with the amount of idiots screeching up behind the van! Despite one of them in the central reservation flagging traffic to slow down well before the obstruction! Anyway, I thought about this afterwards and wondered why he hadn't driven it in-gear to the bus-stop lay by i towed him to, and feel it's the same as the idiots chasing up the outer lane today only to slam on the anchors, same as the old lady in MarcZ32's story, same as half the country......Like the bag of peanuts that contains the warning "This product contains nuts".....half the people in this country have to be protected from their own stupidity, as a most have a distinct lack of common sense! :headvswal But....It happens and like the old lady he probably just panicked and did'nt know what to do cos they've never been told what to do.....so you have to drive expecting the unexpected and as though there is something in the middle of the road around every blind corner or crest and be prepared to aviod it!!!!

Wheel re-furb... how much damage can be fixed?
What did that wheel repair cost mark? + ...without repair what would the refurb have been? I have 4 similar split rims to refurb at the moment and it's looking at about £130 a wheel for what i want to do (dip strip, sandblast, and polish the inners Gunmetal, and strip and polish the rim like yours...)

Been ripped off wiv TAX - PLEASE READ
The guy is complaining about dishonesty of a forum member.....yes he'd probably have done the deal like i would, but would have at least negotiated down £100 on the basis of not even having 6 months road fund licence! He's obviously sold the car, and the buyer agreed the price on the whole package, i.e. on the basis of current RFL having 5 months left to run!

Been ripped off wiv TAX - PLEASE READ
/\/\/\....Why not?.....Better than popping around his house and bullying him! I thought that's what internet forums and freedom of speech were all about!

dodgy Tesco fuel, who just heard that on the radio?
Duffer....I think he's cut n' paste the banner ad text that appears on the site he got it from....I thought the same but when you read it again it appears like an advert, rather than something he was saying to someone else but forgot to delete..!!

1996 odometer ??
...I'd also advise you that digital clocks do not solve your concerns with 'clocking'! Digital clocks are far mor easily reprogrammed these days and you would never know unless the milage really didn't match the wear signs on the car....This is easier to see on an analoge clock against the signs previously mentioned. Check vehicle reports, and history, against the milage and if it really does seem suspicious then either negotiate on that basis, depandant on teh condidtion, or leave well alone and walk away!

Clutch?
It needs two of you to bleed it, like bleeding brakes! One nipple on the slave cylinder under the drivers side near the gearbox and another one on the drivers side wing under bonnet... You'll need two of you to; Open nipple (start under car), then, Press clutch pedal down slowly and as its nearing the floor, Tighten the nipple before the peddle reaches floor. Then let the clutch pedal come back up and repeat. I would alternate the above with 2 under the car with two under the bonnet a few times on each while ensuring the resovoir topped up.....do a search on here for Bleeding clutch and you might get better advice or pics but its a two man job and a PITA!

Petrol Cap/Filling up/Vacuum Suction
Thanks for this Guys.. It's my cap i think, and I defineatly feel that its valve is a bit dodgy, as i get no air flow when i suck on it. If i suck really hard i get a bit through, but I have to push the valve nipple to get any significant air through it! (I took the the black turning handle off the top to reveal the valve). I was just concerned that the vacuum might be attempting to pull fuel back to tank when switched off, creating undue pressure on the pump rather than breathing in Air to to the tank to fill the vacuum void, or that this was effecting the pump operation on a longer run with a low/ 1/4 filled tank, which is allowing more of a significant vacuum pressure when there is more air space than fuel in the tank! Looking at the manual diagram any vacuum should be filled through the one way valve in the cap.... could be design issue as the Fuel Pump and flow use is probably significantly more than the valve size in the fuel cap, or as i suspect, it's just a sticky fuel cap valve.... It was this i was looking for comparisons on really....nothing major, just another niggle that i've been meaning to ask about! Thanks again for your comments Damian.

Bit of a problem...help
ChrisK, you hav'nt had this car long and I don't think any passer by would be able to undo all those bolts, one or two maybe, but all of them?????...(Try another wheel yourself and see!) I'd take it back to the garage, tell em what happened and say you want the wheel repaired/replaced and the rest of them checked as well or, you're off to get an AA inspector to do it and pass them the bill!! It sounds to me like the wheels have been refurbed and they've not been put back together properly (So check the rest either way ASAP!) but in terms of being 'fit for purpose' etc in teh time you've had it, i'd say the garage needs to be sorting this one out for you.....It was'nt a private sale/sold as seen as far as i'm aware?!!

Petrol Cap/Filling up/Vacuum Suction
I get it after a short run 7-10miles and open the cap as fuel is being pumped and creating a vacuum as the tanks not breathing....Looking at the diag Vijay posted, the breather (ventilation hose) feeds off the filler neck, but from behind the cap - So in theory it can't breathe if the cap valve does'nt open! think it's my cap.. Greg whats the 'IIRC carbon cannister'??

Petrol Cap/Filling up/Vacuum Suction
Just been out and no 'intake' after lying idle for 4 hours. I've whipped the cap off and there is a tiny valve which is a bit iffy and does'nt open properly to let air in when i suck on it! (I asked the GF but she told me where to go!!!) Just taken the plastic end off and there is a valve but it's only one way, (Into tank). Good for trapping fume evaporation, but seems strange to have if the car should get warm in hot weather and the air inside teh tank expands?? Anyway, i'm soaking it in some warm soapy water for a few mins now and i'll warm it in a pan of oil before i dry it off and put it back tomorrow.....I think its just the rubber on the valve needs lubing up...Again i went to ask the GF but she's gone to bed!!...Just wondering if teh valve is US or is supposed to be one way?? Cheers for teh link Vijay..will have a quick read now..

Petrol Cap/Filling up/Vacuum Suction
Anyone's Z take a deeep intake of breath when taking the fuel cap off to fill up?!!....Mine does, and I've been meaning to ask if this was normal for a while now?!! Is there a breather pipe on the tank that might be blocked? It looks like I have an original cap, which seems to have breathe holes on it?? ( on the end of the threaded nozzle end which screws into the fuel filler pipe). I'm not sure if thats perhaps how it's supposed to breathe and that there's no breathe pipe? I could change the cap for one of my many get you home types in the garage, but wondered if the sucking in was normal?!! I'm going to nip out now after considering this and see if it does it cold (will edit tomorrow accordingly!)
