I think central locking was standard? My 92 UKTT 2+2 has it and the alarm is disabled at the moment. Possible test?..... Can you disarm the alarm undern the bonnet and then lock the car on the key at the drivers side and the passenger should lock. If not get sextons to disable it so you can test this! If it does, then its an alarm fault, and if not the solenoid on passenger side needs changing and it is indeed a car fault!
  7. Scoops i'm not deliberatly trying to have a pop at you but i did request more info and detail and reserved my judgement until i saw a bit more. Even if he was speeding, what has that really got to do with the cause...it only determines the severity of effect!!! :smash: I'm 32 now but it still gets my goat how people generalise by jumping on the 'speed' bandwagon and young drivers tend to bear the brunt of these generalisations, as i did at 17-21!! Even if he was speeding would it still be his fault? I won't admit to my driving habits on an open forum, but hopefully owning a Z predicts some dictation of drivng ability :p In my opinion It's just bad driving that causes accidents not speed. Speed kills in urban and built up areas where pedestrian impacts become fatal, but again speeding in such areas is careless driving anyway. Granted the outcome is severly speed dependant, and if this had happend on a motorway with a 70mph and 60mph rear impact then things might have been a lot worse, but it's still someones bad driving that caused the accident in the first place! As an example, If the guy had said he was doing 70mph in a 50 limit then i would still have asked questions before saying ahhh well then you were speeding it must be your fault...It might have been a temporary limit on the dual carriageway, lets say, to account for roadworker safety during working hours for arguments sake, (which the M4 seems to be strewn with these days!)..If the accident had occurred at 11pm at night though, when no workers were about, and the cones are off the road, and the road conditions dictate that it's safe to drive more than the posted temporary limit then people would still apportion blame on 'speeding', when it is not necessarily the case... I'm just saying a little more thought is required before anyone passes judgement, especially when it comes to speed. Granted, If we all drove around at 20mph there would be far fewer accidents, but i'd be bankrupt in a week!! Again without wanting to post my driving habits i don't tend to agree with certain imposed limits on the roads and feel that half the newly imposed limits are to account for bad driving. Not sure of the stats in Germany, but the standard of driving is alot better and is presumably why Autobhans are very unrestricted?
  8. Sounds to me like your in the clear if it's corner to corner, so stick to your guns! She's also admitted liability...But, as the guys have said people say one thing in shock and another days later after talking to insurance sharks! My other post was a pop at scoops for pre-judging you without any of the facts :smash: Now you've posted a few more it seems far more clear!
  9. I think she is in the wrong but difficult to prove so follow Gruntpa's advice and stick to your guns and get your legal team to negotiate on your behalf. Years ago now though... but happend to a mate when he was young. He was approaching a roundabout but fortunatly he was able to swerve right and mount the central verge and aviod a collision. The offending car didn't even stop, which proved they wern't even looking and driving without due care, but fortunatly witnesses stopped and the police found against them for the damage to my mates undercarriage! Scoops...Very Negative and judgemental comments?!! If the poor lad hadn't mentioned that he was doing under the limit first off, i think you might have pre-judged him for speeding because he says he's 19!! As far as the doors jamming, which is what you base YOUR judgement on....he didn't state that they then came to a slow, straight standstill after impact! I personally would assume that the slight impact shunted the front car one way or the other causing further damage!! Difficult to prove (I assume your test was negative?) but the police will have filled out a RTC report so thier comments and statements from all present witnesses will have most bearing. Did you hit her car full on to the rear or Rear offside/Rear nearside as this will also have a bearing on any outcome....
  10. Let us know how you get on with them in 3 months then boldy as that seems a bit too cheap to me.....
  11. I know i'm on here as a 300 freak but it has to be said that Audi engineering is second to very few! I had an 86 coupe as a daily runner for 3 years before i bought my Z and it never let me down once and i reluctantly sold it one here a couple of weeks back. If the Avant comes with the 1.9 or 2.0 TDI 130bhp option then i can also vouch for this power unit thats in my Golf. It's an absolute beauty and as well as being reliable, torquey and nippy when needed, it cruises nicely at higher speeds with wonderfully low revs when coupled with the six speed gearbox option! I nearly opted for a S/H one of these when i bought my Golf, but as they hold the money too well i could'nt get a six speed 130 TDI in the same price bracket so opted for the Golf which ticked all the boxes bar space. I surf occasionally and the built in silver roof bars on the Gunmetal Avants are a nice added touch! If you look up info about the RS4 avant i'm sure you'll be hooked on the look that can be achived as well if you fancy tweaking a standard car a bit!!....Well worth the extra pennies in my opion and has better residual value than the other jap options you listed.
  12. I watched a program where if you wrap the body in a carpet and set fire to it it helps to keep the fat wrapped up rather than dripping off the bone and thus burns the bones as well! Only problem then i suppose after reading this thread is the teeth!! Plus I'll never look at my bacon and sausage at the weekend in the same way after reading this thread!!

  17. A49 is a class 'run' for the N/W!! Used to do it every week, Warrington to Cardiff last year!! C'mon lads you know you want to!!
  18. Market will be fine as Pensions are in crisis. Everyone and his dog has investments in housing rather than shares these days. I'm 32 and just bought a buy to let as well as my big mtg on my home 2 years ago to fund my Z'ding in years to come!! A little stretching of the income now will pay off in years to come and i agree anything spare should go off the mortgage or be re-invested into the house! If i were buying that Mike I'd be selling the wifes new car, and get a builder in to quote for ripping the garage roof off and raising it to put in another couple of bedrooms or bedroom/s with en-suites or another big bedroom and larger bathroom! Looks like you might have a bit of space out the front for a double garage where that car is parked or is that shared access? You could convert the existing gargae and above then!!! Move again then to the original size of housein 1/2 years and pay a major chunk off the mortgage. beats grafting for a living!!!
  19. I think we should all chip in and pay for craig to go up north and stay with Stellaz.....I'd be stuck to the thread like glue next day!! Money where your mouth is Craig??!!
  20. Other than HID which i am looking to do in the next couple of weeks.... I remembered reading the forum a couple of years back about lining the 'inners' of the lights with reflective material (Think they were dipped, and done on an exchange basis). Has anyone done this who can comment on whether it's worth doing prior to HID or just go with HID and forget the shiny lights?!!! I read an old forum archive and MAC1 and ChrisC claim to have done this, and be doing this respectively back in 2002...any comments on doing this pre HID fellas?
  21. Could be good. If i'm not in Egypt i'll pop across!
  22. Whats the real issue? Is the pump definately US? When i first bought my Z i had a water leak and suspected the pump and had this replaced by a nissan mechanic to solve the leak...No joy in fixing the problem and i still had a leak! I learned after joining the forum that the two tubes feeding the top water pipe are prone to failure and should be replaced whenever delving into this area for the sake of a few quid!! This wasn't done when i did my pump and i ended up doing this myself which is a much smaller job than the pump and solved my problem.... If you've done the pump once already and these pipes weren't changed then i'd bet that one of these have a split which opens when warmed and water runs down past the pump making it appear that the pump is gone! Worth checking these before delving in deep!
  23. Simple answer yes! Like most motors, New bearings will mean new bearings, second hand are usually fitted as a hub, as to extract the bearings means knackering them anyway to get them out so a complete hub will be swapped...
  24. Looks like the Blonde has the best lungs for that job!!
