Ok you will need to only change the high and low pressure ports to accept the new recharge hose fittings, these simply tighten over your present schrader type valves to R134a types. This is a simply 5 minute job and available on E-bay such as here 2 required > http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/R12-to-R134a-Air-Con-Regas-Gas-Recharge-Adaptor-Screw-On-Fitting-With-Dust-Cap-/351767823173?hash=item51e6ff0345:g:--MAAOSwc1FXbPd7 From there a pressure test can be done which will provide you and the ac guy with an indication of if the system is leak free, if ok then the system is vacuumed of all old gas, air and moisture. Then this is when oil is introduced along with the new gas, all car ac systems have the amount of gas weight in liquid form to fill the system and is usually on a label on the slam panel, however the conversion to new gas means you only need to refill to around 80% of that figure as there is a different expansion rate in the two different gases. When gassed up and tested, it is imperative you check the cooling fan for the condenser cuts in when the car is left ticking overe for 20 minutes with the ac on, if not this will cause the over pressure valve to let go and the gas to escape, there is a simple work around for this though so see how you go and can detail that if required. Picture below show the old and new type port connectors, as your close to Tamworth the guy I used to use would supply and fit the port connectors as well as then testing and refilling, if you have port connectors and fitted yourself our alternative guy in Coleshill ( closer to you ) can do it, both have good tech knowledge of the 300zx ac system as we have done scores with them. Good look and hope that helps, pm me if you want any more help, e-mail jeff@zedworld.co.uk or ask here what ever suits you. Jeff

Any decent ac guy will know to add an amount of oil, what year is your zed ? makes a difference on if it is an original R12 system as it will need post adapters. Jeff

Ok near enough at least your staying away from the hateful iridium plugs, as a final reference to them the NGK Iridium BKR7EIX application list shows as fitting the Nissan 300zx 90-96 Z32, a simple cross reference on the application it also shows as fitting the 2002-2005 Subaru WRX 2.0L how can that be right ?? If your running 700 bhp then it is hardly a standard engine ? in fact been so far removed from the original design parameters then nothing can be taken from the spec of those engines and applied to lessers zeds. As far as running a zed as a daily or even a regular weekend car then iridium plugs would soon enough show out as not fully suitable, occassional use with long time parked up gives false results on any reliability factors as well as suitability. Way too much motor sport hype exists in after market car parts, all sorts of kit that is only suitable for track cars with no place on road cars but the hype and spin of claimed performance improvements is what propergates the market. Of course the real problem with after market parts be it plugs or suspension parts they are almost certainly fitted after taking old worn items off, the comparison then is flawed, fit a set of brand new stock plugs to an engine and it will better, of course they are new and have not started to degrade. If Nissan concluded the platinum plugs were the way to go then with the invested research they would have done then thats indictive of a good call, personally never seen a zed engine in stock or slightly modded form run better with iridium plugs, in fact on the contrary. Listen to the tick over its just not on song with the wrong plugs.

Oh dear the old Iridium plug debate ! this has been dealt with so many times over the years , iridium plugs DO NOT SUIT large relative low revving engines as they have poor cleaning property. Iridium plugs are best left for 2.0 litre high revving engines, near on twenty years of been around zed engines has proven to me that the stock plug is the BEST option, the tickover has a perceivable miss when iridium plugs are used, in fact both me and Jamie could tell if they were fitted just by the way the engine would tick over and sound. After years of saying this I eventually cornered a tech from HKS at the Auto-sport show who agreed with me and actually said just because they appeared on the application fitting list did not mean they were actually well suited.

Any Idea What This Is

No front indicators
They are not, very common problem its the earth connection in the bulb holder ( the outer metal bit ) the connection which is inside becomes high resistance and hence do not work, replacing them with used ones can often have the same issue, however if you splice the earth cable with a short bit of new cable, take out the bulb pass it down the side of the bulb and refit the bulb to trap it, then it re earth`s the unit, this will come under the heading of a "work around" rather than a fix as I hate the word bodge !! New to 300zx!
Welcome Adam, you have a lot to learn and here is the place to do it, ask away what you need to know and in the meantime>>> Take a look around here, http://www.zedworld.co.uk/wizzaa.html A tad clunky by today`s websites and old now but give you some insight into into the zed check out the links to "getting to know your zed " and "separating fact from fiction" Enjoy Jeff

Danger of diagnosing z32 faults is to go too tech too quickly, almost certainly in this and most cases its something simple, you checked / changed that fuse yet? the battery light been on is not good. Jeff

Radiator cross member replacement, day one.
Well done an excellent job and a good write up for the forum, having done the job now I imagine you can clearly see how much it would have cost to be done at a bodyshop ??? think how much you have saved. TOP JOB Jeff

Check the fuse marked up engine cont its in the fusebox under the bonnet passenger side by the headlight, it is the alternator exciter circuit, it also feeds power around the engine to the various things. It is a red 10 amp, change it even if it look ok with a fresh one, they have a habit of going high resistance and can cause all sorts of issues see if the battery light goes out then. Of course you may have somehow caused a massive boost leak somewhere and a boost leak check will find that. Jeff
