  1. Doh!!! why do you think we are in at 7:00am !!!!!:D Jeff
  2. If pulling the small pipe off the balancer bar causes the engine to cut out, then this would suggest other issues which in themselves could be the cause of the emissions failure. Low base idle , retarded ignition, throttle in-balance, boost/ air leaks Jeff TT
  3. Vtc pulley noise is a light rattle that can be teased away by lifting the engine revs, lifters make a more pronounced tap that get louder as revs rise. Complete BDE Linky here http://bde-performance.com/vtc.htm Jeff
  4. Oh yes well noticed:D Jeff
  5. Mmm.. yes poss work in the short term on a non turbo car. Jeff
  6. Here is a little surprise that showed up during a cambelt change, this particular zed had been serviced by a main dealer for some years and the owner had decided to not keep paying the high charges. So given the last time the front of the engine was opened up it was in a main dealer`s workshop how odd to see the bulk of the thermostat missing, when the bit left in was removed it was evident the functioning part had been hacksawed off?? very bizzare, oh and the upshot is an overcooled engine running in warm up mode all of the time using excessive fuel and not achieveing full boost. Jeff TT
  7. Oh yes nice and early for you on a Saturday eh? 7:00am  Jeff TT
  8. Cheers Dave, can`t believe was enjoying 34c deg weather yesterday:cry: Ah well at least I am back working on zeds:nana2: Jeff TT
  9. Your very welcome as is everyone, just let me know when your ready.:D Jeff TT
  10. Spoke to Jamie earlier and he said he has the bumper off and re-doing some of the pipework etc. Jeff
  11. Hi peeps, just got back tonight from a very hot Portugal, see I have a truck load of pm`s / mails etc. that need replying to so will get them done tomorrow, sorry for any delays.......but now I need bed!!!:D Cheers Jeff TT
  12. Whats the cheapest and quickest place to get a pay as you go dongle so I can have internet connection on my laptop when on holiday and will it work in Portugal?? Jeff
  13. Have you got after market wheels? if so check the hub adapters are fitted in the wheels or on the hub if not the the nuts have to hold the wheel central on the hub ...but don`t do it too well at high speed Jeff TT
  14. No matey was only there on Saturday as had some other stuff on Sunday, got say as I was leaving Saturday looking back at the club stand I was wishing I was able to stop, the weather, place and atmoshere was great, oh well looks like a longer stay next year then:D Jeff
  15. Cheers matey, yes I love it! my brother has a black 540i too with the tiptronic gearbox which is awsome. The real bonus is they make such wicked 2nd hand buys, although I have had mine a while they were like £50k when new! Jeff TT
  16. Oh yes your so right, to be fair you can actually get four adults in and the tyres still never catch the wheel arches due to the amont of neg camber Lynda is on her 2nd set of rears + 1 set of fronts + the ones it came with of course in 18k miles. Jeff TT
  17. Oooh you making me blush now. Thanks Jeff
  18. Lynda has a 330ci with full Schnitzer kit, exhaust all factory fitted 19” wheels the lot, absolutely brilliant car, corners like no zed I have been in and power too, makes the best of the six speed manual, Lynda bought it with the optional hard top too which we store at the workshop and when this is fitted it really does look like a fixed head coupe. Find myself finding excuses to use as much as possible, to be honest probably use it as much if not more than Lynda does, ha ha. get one you would not be disappointed The last pic is my other baby 4.4v8 six speed manual lovely V8 burble, pulls like a freekin train, you can pull away in third gear and the next gear change is at 130 mph on a private track of course Despite those two and my Vectra GSI daily driver still could not part with me Z Jeff TT
  19. Firstly although mentioned elsewhere I would like say a very big THANK YOU and WELL DONE for those involved in the organisation of what I and many others consider the best meet for a long time. Also I would like to thanks the members who where able to attend and for the warm welcome shown to myself, Jamie and my brother Alan, it felt like a real meaningful event that I hope will continue to hold the 300zx forum together and of course maintain its title of the biggest and best 300zx forum in the UK. Also it cannot go unmentioned that you guys voted me for two awards that was unexpected but never the less very welcome and I thank you all who was involved with that. Anyway enough of the gushy stuff , How did everyone get on with the ConZult checks and adjustments we did? we will be sending you all the results in printed form so that you can use them for reference and as a set point within your service history etc. As most of you know we are extremely familiar with ConZult diagnostic and the tuning/ set up improvements that can be achieved using it. To this end we do know what is general common set up and sensor faults but having 35+ back to back diagnostic tests it has confirmed what we already knew but the details still were a little surprising. Of 35+ tests only one engine required no adjustments, we did reveal the most common set up fault and that was basic throttle balance, this is very important and should not be overlooked as it effects performance, drive ability and fuel economy let alone the driving experience. So I will be producing some kind of graph / table to support the results and their meaning so it is easy to read, but as mentioned above only one single engine was set up ok, the remainder all except one required among other things the throttle balance to be corrected, one of those was so incorrectly set the right hand butterfly was not even starting to open until the engine had reached 2k rpm !! that also means that wide open throttle was not achievable, I am sure the owner of that zed ( unnamed,, lol) will have noticed a real difference in how it runs. Ok well there you have it a well organised and friendly meeting that has been a long time coming and hopefully means the continuation of many successful meets both nationally and locally. WELL DONE YOU GUYS. Jeff TT
  20. Mmm. yes a later 16 bit standard ecu, the set screw on the side is for accessing any stored fault codes. You will have to swap the ecu anyway for an earlier 8 bit version to fit the jwt eprom, no problem with doing this. Jeff TT
  21. Free ConZult diagnostic at Wickstead Park this weekend Ok just to confirm all the members who have pmed me and added their name to the previous thread have been booked in, just to confirm this is not just a quick look but any adjustments required will be done too all FREE of course we will not have a full compliment of tools so don't expect any cambelt changes though :D Also as a reminder there is a goody bag of sorts with all sorts of discounts parts and services by ourselves and associated traders from that new set of wheels to a basic oil change. Finally remember each bag contains a FREE raffle ticket so only one bag per member so make sure you get one, the winning tickets will be announced around 3:00 pm ( Saturday ) and posted up in the club marquee ( if that's ok? ) Ok lets really make this a good turn out for the 300zx.co.uk club and I hope its a great time for all who attend.:nana2: Jeff TT
  22. Have had the exact same problem when fitting a Nissan oil filter on to a sandwhich plate, when checking the plates against the engine filter plate the dimensions they do not match up, aftermarket filters seem to be slightly smaller and by chance fit the sandwich plates better than a Nissan one. Jeff TT
  23. Thought I might have a look at the zed in the link below, might have some fun with the salesman  will buy him a beer after if he passes the zed knowledge tests.
