  1. This is so true - the 300ZX is no worse in the wet than any other powerful RWD car. Just fit decent tyres and be aware of the signs of the back letting go. When it does go, it is predictable and easy to bring back into line....... .....although for inexperienced drivers previously used to FWD hot hatches it could be brown pants :D Richard :smw:
  2. The autobox oil should indeed read "cold" when the car hasn't been run. Are you checking the level with the engine running? TBH best way th check 'box oil level is to go for a 30 minute run, then park on level ground. Keep the engine running and move the gear selector from park, down to 1 and back to park. Get out quickly and check the oil making sure engine is still running. Richard :smw:
  3. Same as me mate - didn't take too long either :D Richard :smw:

    dodgy thermostat?
  5. Good - can't let a Dagenham Dustbin (even though the're no longer made there :x: ) get the better of you :hyper: I took my ZX out for a thrashing this morning - love these cold dry days, soooo good for the turbos :D A couple of guys were having a bit of a race along a dual carriageway - one in a BMW 330 coupe and the other in a Jag XJR (not the V8, previous straight 6 supercharged - N reg)...... ......they both got in my way :mac1: Jag smoked the BM, pulled over and I just had to fly past them both  Richard :smw:
  6. What make tyres are you running? Get some decent rubber - when I fitted Goodyear F1s the rear end strangely stopped being so wayward :hyper: Even in the wet now I find it hard to get the back end to let go, unless being really stupid........ Richard :D
  7. Me too, the poor thing :( I couldn't believe the news Friday when I heard there was a whale in the Thames near Parliament. I thought John Prescott was taking a lunchtime swim until I switched on the TV and saw it myself.... They are indeed amazing creatures, I can't believe the Japanese are so cruel to them  Richard
  8. Looks a nice car Kev - and the right colour too :hyper: As previously posted, the grin never goes away. I've had mine 3 years now and it still makes me grin when it hits 100 soooo quickly - it's what these cars are best at IMO :D As for the rear end, they can be tail happy in the wet but fit decent tyres and the difference is amazing. Mine had Avons when I bought it and they were crap, fitted Goodyear F1s and it was like a different car  It rarely gives out now, even in the wet..... Welcome to ZX ownership! Richard :smw:
  9. Where in London are you mate? When I lived in the East End I used to go to Elite over in Rainham, just on the A13 near the Ford factory. Richard :smw:
  10. The checking can be done by any old tyre shop to see if it may be out. However to have the allignment altered/corrected you'd best take it to a 4 wheel allignment specialist. There are a few around and the cost is not so bad - around £60 for 4 wheel adjustments, £30-ish just for fronts. Look in Yellow Pages - often specialist alloy wheel suppliers/fitters will have the facility. Richard :smw:
  11. I'm surprised it makes a difference - I thought the bulbs were just bulbs and it was the actual headlamps that were designed left or right hand drive  Richard :smw:
  12. I have had my car MOTd twice at local Nissan dealers since fitting my HID conversion and there have been no problems. I do have a UK car but lost the headlight washers when I fitted the 99-spec front end (HIDs fitted since then, I hasten to add :D ) Richard :D
  13. Yup, generally their part numbers for the 300zx are total crap - they list H1 bulbs for full an dipped beam  Richard :o
  14. Have to agree with Legrath there too...... Si was only demonstrating what not to buy from Fleabay. Richard :smw:
  15. Shame the GTO couldn't even hit 180mph...... :mac1: Richard :D
  16. http://www.wickedwheels.co.uk Richard :smw:
  17. Mercedes make some nice cars at the mo..... ....I had the pleasure of the humble new SLK350 for a weekend last November. That's an excellent car. 0-60 the same as a stock TT ZX, with 100 not too far different either  Very nicely kitted out - and you gotta love that vario-roof as well. All in all it's like a mini SL for much less cash..... Richard :hyper:
  18. Also the speed rating is too low. VR is for up to 149mph, a 300zx must have ZR rated - over 150mph. I know most of us won't drive at those speeds, but the speed rating is also meant to match the characteristics of the car. (acceleration and high speed cornering etc) If Nissan specify Z-rated tyres then do not fit a lower speed rating. Richard :smw: PS Goodyear GSD3 F1s are the b0ll0x mate - best performance tyre ever..... .....except they last 5 minutes :o
  19. Agree there - it dosen't look particularly well looked after and that seat looks fekked for 103k miles. I mean my UK spec has now done 84k miles, it has had no restoration work done yet it is still in very good condition, the leather is immaculate and the body is good as well. Its examples like this that are bringing the prices down IMO :( Richard :)
  20. There you go mate - keep it and get it repaired. Good luck Richard :)
  21. That is what I love most about the 300zx  0-60 or 1/4 mile times are all well and good but mid-range grunt is usable in the real world - it's what the car is best at IMHO And you look good when doing it :p Nice one mate Richard
  22. Cars do lose BHP as the engine wears out.... .....so if it has been looked after all its life with regular oil changes and never thrashed each and every day, then there's no reason why a 70k miler should have much less BHP than it did from the factory when new. Each and every car is different - and regarding the "Top Gear" supercars, they were all bargain buys. Tremendously underpriced examples of rubbish near the end of their useful lives. Buy a top priced, nurtured example and the results would be different......(Except for the Italian cars - they are all crappily made  ) Richard :)
  23. Thing is, that is the price these cars should be going for. Only Fleabay, plus there are soooo many rough examples out there and dodgy importers are buying any old rubbish from the Land of the Rising Sun, means that prices are rock bottom at the mo. Look in cars for sale - MartinFA has a superb SWB for sale at less than £6k  Good hunting mate, Richard :)
  24. Have to second this - it's all I have ever used in mine  Virtually stock UK spec TT, now on 84k miles, no noises or oil consumption and "textbook" oil pressure even when hot. Fave brand to date is Shell Helix Ultra - plus I earn Pluspoints with every purchase...... Richard :)
  25. Agreed - very classy  Richard :)
