  1. See post 27 here http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=62626&page=2 Richard
  2. They'll all rust away eventually......... ......just enjoy it while you can :headvswal Richard
  3. Nice idea, Andrew RIP Mr Hadlow Richard
  4. There are loads of us mate  I'm just down the road in Chalfont St Peter, CJ hails from Chesham, Mark Stevens from Aylesbury, to name but a few........ Anyway welcome to ZX ownership..... Richard :)
  5. I know mate - that's for delivery only as you still need to pay someone to fit them. Still it probably would work out cheaper from them though, but I needed them supplied and fitted yesterday! Richard :)
  6. Yup, £34,500 at first launch in the UK. Although it wasn't just the recession - the British public were not convinced enough to spend vast amount of cash on a Japanese sports car. Plus they were sold in limited numbers here anyway. As for the £28k tax break, it made no difference. UK tax regs have always stated that company cars are taxed on the manufacturers list price, regardless of any discounts offered. The official list price of the 300zx never dropped below £30k, despite how little Nissan may have offered them for sale at. The final list price in late 1993/early 1994 was £33,230 according to WhatCar? when comparing it to the Mk4 Soop and Mitsi 3000GT. Richard :)
  7. This is a very interesting debate.....  Seriously though, I think I made my views clear in an earlier post. However I would like to add one thing - we are all pretty much in agreement that most Ferraris, Lambos etc are true supercars. But when a mainstream manufacturer like Nissan or Toyota can develop a coupe with such sensational looks, cutting edge technology (for the time, before anyone starts  ) and the performance to make Italy's and Germany's finest get off their complacent arses and notice, especially at the price the 300zx and Supra were offered for; then that makes for a pretty special car too  As a petrol head I obviously have several books dedicated to the supercar, mostly bought for me as presents back in the early to mid 90's before I even thought about buying a 300zx....... Titles include "Top Marques" "Dream Cars" and "The Fastest Cars From Around The World" to name but a few. There pages are graced by very expensive Italian and German exotica, however one car from a mainstream manufacturer makes it into all 3 aforementioned titles along with most of the others in my library. The 300ZX Z32  Sure the Ford Cosworth makes it into 1 and the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton into another and the Honda NSX in 2 titles. But the ZX apears in several. This bears testament to the impact the 300ZX had on the motoring press at launch :) Richard
  8. Noticed my fronts were on the tread wear indicator this morning......not good as I'm off to Cornwall for a few days on Saturday. Rang round a few places and managed to get a pair of 235/45/zr17 Dunlop SP9000 fully inclusive for £235 from Hi-Q in Slough. Pretty good price there I thought, as E-Tyres wanted £220 and they may not be able to make it by tomorrow, not ideal as I don't want to go on hols with worn tyres. ATS wanted £285 for the same tyres :xxx: I fitted Dunlops to the rears back in the summer after the F1s lasted 6000 miles, and TBH they're very grippy too and should last a bit longer. Richard :)
  9. I had 2 mk3 Supras before my 300zx. Sure the Mk3 Soop was a good car and can still hold its own with many current so-called sports cars, I loved the performance and grip....... .....until I bought my ZX (stock-ish UK spec auto). In all respects it is way superior to the Mk3 Supra. It is much faster, handles better, sounds sweeter and has not really dated. In fact even the Mk4 Soop looks dated compared to a ZX (Mk4 Soop is still a great car though). As for the supercar comparison, the 300zx was indeed billed as Japan's first supercar because at the time no other Japanese car was quick enough to need limiting to 155mph and as a drivers car it was unsurpassed, save for very expensive Italian or German exotica...... Also at the time the Porsche 928gt, although still acknowledged as the granddaddy of all GT cars, was classed in the supercar league. The 300zx stuffed Porsche's best testers in the 330bhp 928GT round the Nurburgring  I do not think the 300zx is a true supercar by any means, that is reserved for things like the Bugatti Veyron, McLaren F1, Jag XJ220, Diablo, Ferarri F50 etc. However a more accurate description would be "Junior Supercar" A status also attributable to the Mk4 Supra, Skyline, NSX, Pork 928gt/s Boxter-S and 944T, Jag XKR, Aston DB7, Maseratti 3200 etc etc. Richard :)
  10. AFAIK this only applied in your case, Gaz, because you bought from a trader. A private sale is a different matter mate. Richard :)
  11. Saw 2 red 300ZXs (although it could have been the same car twice  ) on the northern section of the M25..... 1st heading anticlockwise Xmas morning around 10.30 between A41 and Rickmansworth...... ......2nd Boxing day, heading clockwise around midday between Potters Bar and A10. Anyone??? Richard :)
  12. Basically what PK said above and in all the other posts. I'd personally just ignore the letter from hss solicitor and tell the twat to f~ck off. I'd only get a solicitor involved myself if the letters kept coming or a summons was actually issued. You weren't aware of any faults until he pointed them out, plus he has had 3 months for new ones to materialise. Further more HE offered YOU £6000 AFTER the test drive and AFTER he found the said faults. As for the alarm he can f~ck off there too. He should have checked the paperwork you gave him at the time of purchase and questioned you then. And as PK says you can get proof from the manufacturer the alarm is Cat 1 approved, although technically the fitter should certify that. No my opinion is this guy misjudged the true cost of owning the car he purchased and has seen cheaper crappier versions for sale. He wants to blame someone else for his mistake. The :xxx: Good luck mate Richard :)
  13. Sure is a common fault - they sometimes stick and resume working later again. There is a fix on tt.net i believe. Richard :)
  14. Hi mate, Current classic policy is with Carole Nash and includes breakdown roadside assistance. Richard :)
  15. What he said...... ......and I'm sure I've got the song somewhere - well Luther Vandross doing a cover version of it..... "The Impossible Dream" - from the musical "Stop The World, I Want To Get Off" Richard :)
  16. I currently pay £275 on a classic insurance policy - the ZX is now my second car. However last year when it was my main car I was paying £450-ish fully comp with max NCB protected. I'm 35, been driving since 1987 with one accident in August 2004 and live in a low crime area. Richard :)
  17. I reckon she's building some kind of shanty town there
  18. So you're the one who kidnapped Toga the Penguin...... ;)
  19. Ditto really...... .....although of the 2 in the poll, it has to be the Calibra. Better build quality and it's got the 4x4 grip. Rover is fwd and handles poorly in comparison to just about anything...... Richard :smw:
  20. What he said mate  Richard :smw:
  21. Hi mate, welcome to the club. Reading this section would give any newbie the opinion that ZXs break down all the time. Not so really..... Buy a good one that has been looked after and you'll be fine - it's a Nissan afterall. However you must remember these cars are now 10-15 years old and as with any such high performance car it will be at the age where things are bound to go wrong. Parts are pretty expensive although the traders here can source most bits at a fraction of Nissan dealers. And as you'd expect from a car that cost £36k new 15 years ago labour isn't cheap either - again the traders can sort you out if the worst happens. I've had my UK spec twin turbo over 2 1/2 years now and it's been reliable - never let me down yet in 20,000 miles. I've spent a fortune in fuel though  Good luck, Richard :D
  22. Power Transistor Unit - it makes the ignition work ;) The series one unit is a know weakness and goes bad around 60k miles. It's a case of when, not if mate! The series 2 is more reliable so most people buy the later version with the new harness. They cost around £250+vat from Nissan in the UK, but you can get them for half that including shiping from the USA. Also IIRC Vijay can get them cheaply - otherwise MJP, Z-tech etc....the usual ever-reliable traders. Richard :smw:
  23. Exactly - that's why during the quote they ask if you are the registered keeper and if not, who is. EG. I'm thinking of replacing my Rav-4 with a new one, but instead of selling the old Rav I was going to give it to Julia and get rid of her Corsa. Rather than register her as the keeper at DVLA (which gives it an additional owner unnecessarily, since the car is staying within our household) I can leave it in my name but switch it over to her policy with her as the main user. Direct Line do not care that I am still the registered keeper. Providing we are honest about who is the main driver and I can prove I am the main user of another car. Richard :smw:
