Suggestions for Potential Valved Exhaust
Personally I wouldn't bother mate! Valved systems are fine where they are an OEM fit on new cars, but why waste cash trying to replicate that on an older car which sounds pretty decent from the box. Go and speak to Infinity (the guys next to Jim) and get them to custom build a "normal" system for you. I did and I am very pleased with the result. My old Mongoose was too intrusive at cruising speeds, so Infinity fabricated one with extra resonators at the front, which made cruising quieter from inside the car. They then used smaller silencers at the rear, so the best of the noise is out back. If I want to have a little fun and enjoy the rumble, I just open the windows. No fancy switches to mess around with, it looks good, sounds good (without the added knob-headed attention seeking function) and only cost £600 all in.

Tyre size recommendations
Hi Rob, for the wheel sizes you have, and to keep the rolling circumferences close, fronts should be 45 profile - go for 235/45/17 on the front and 255/40/17 on the rear. You'll find plenty of options with those sizes. That's what I ran when I had the same 17 inch Azevs on my red Zed😉 You might get 265/40/17 on the rear - but brand options may be fewer. It all follows when you upgrade wheel diameter, you keep the width and drop 5% in profile - I have 18s and my fronts are 235/40/18. Richard

Hi and welcome to the club Chris - and good luck in your Zed adventure! You can't go wrong taking your car to Jim's, he's the ZX-pert and the only person most of us would trust with our cars.

MOT time again
I can't believe how quickly the last year went - I dropped my Zed off at the local garage first thing this morning for an MOT and oil change. They called me less than two hours later to say it's all finished - no issues, albeit an advisory for an oil leak. I knew about it, but it's not losing enough to worry about - I'll just wait until I go and see Jimmer next! My Zed is all ready for 2026, with a new MOT and a sump freshly filled with Castrol's finest😁 I definitely have to use the Zed more this year, I didn't even manage 3,000 miles since the last MOT - most unlike me😮 It needs taxing from 1st Feb, so I shall sort that this afternoon!

Simply Japanese at Beaulieu 19th July 2026
Simply Japanese is being held on SUNDAY 19th July at Beaulieu - details here: Simply Japanese | Beaulieu, National Motor Museum As of today, there is an early bird discount code.... Log in and buy your tickets before it expires! I will be there - I have bought my ticket and booked a hotel for the Saturday night. I have not booked a club stand yet - we will need a minimum of 10 cars - but if we have sufficient interest I will contact the organisers and ask for one. We normally meet in the Tesco car park in Applemore at 07:30 and then drive to the show together around 8.15 (entry is at 8.30). The meet at the Tesco car park is a fun little pre-meet with the Zed club, Toyota clubs and others meeting there too. A few rules: Tesco have never stopped us from using their car park or complained, as it is a great meeting point with petrol on tap we don't want to lose it, so please, no donuts, burnouts, etc. The New Forest has wild animals, ponies, horses, deer, rabbits, badgers... please follow all speed limits and refrain from being silly Inside Beaulieu, once parked up, please leave engines off. They have neighbours and need to keep the noise to a minimum. This is one of the year's best events - as it has something for everyone. Beaulieu is a fantastic location, not only will there be loads of Japanese cars on show, but there's also the motor museum, the house, the formal gardens, a monorail and a falconry display. Perfect for bringing your family...! Please register your interest below. Look forward to seeing you there 🙂

plastic wheel arch liners for the rear???
Understood....! And I can concur that some un-made car parks generate a bit of noise, but I've only noticed it with the windows open. Just a thought - maybe your sound insulation in the boot is missing or in need of replacement! Be very careful about lining the inner arches with a foam or felt-like material though; that's a sure fire way of trapping water and increasing the risk of corrosion later on.

Mr February
Just received my 2026 Z-Club calendar - and it would appear that I am Mr February this year. Well my Zed is......😁 Which is quite appropriate, seeing as my birthday is in February, LOL!!

Hi and welcome to the club. We are a Z32 owners club, so have limited knowledge on the Z31. There is the Zed Club, but that too is UK-based, but there might be the odd member down under who can help.

plastic wheel arch liners for the rear???
LOL - always good to bring up an old thread...! But no, not to my knowledge.... And just out of interest, was your journey home entirely on unmade gravel tracks? I have never experienced the problem of such noise on normal roads, even on the UK's broken surfaces!
