  1. Further to my earlier post about my car, I've decided to sell my 300ZX TT and wanted to give the community first refusal before I list it more widely. I'm sad to have to sell it as I only got it 4 months ago and it was a dream car for me. When I got it, I knew that at £8,000 it would have some issues. It has been serving me well. I've spent some time and money on it, trying to ensure that it ran well - putting new tyres on it, dealing with some leaks, and a variety of other jobs. So long as it kept running and I wasn't having to spend thousands on it, I was happy. Very happy. (You will see from the photos that I have used some black Gorilla tape to deal with a couple of scrapes, and also to do with a gap between lights and the bodywork which I figured would have been causing some unnecessary drag). Then it overheated and stopped on a journey and had to be taken to a garage. The garage carried out a compression test and found cylinders running 30–40% below expected limits. They said that they checked the timing belt, and that it's fine, and that the problem is likely to be the head gasket. The amount they were quoting to do work on the car was far above what I was prepared to spend on it, especially as I'm not currently employed. So I got the car brought back to my house in Cardiff. I decided to do one final check of the car myself. I checked the oil, etc, and there were no problems. But the radiator, as expected, was empty. In fact, it accepted around 10-12 litres when refilled, which was a surprise since I thought the capacity was 10 litres. Anyway, when I attempted to start the engine, coolant came out of the right exhaust — confirming a head gasket failure. I don't know whether someone will want to try to repair this car, or use it to take parts from to fix a 300ZX they already have, but I would rather it's being used positively in either way. I'm asking for £6,500. Collection only from Cardiff. Due to site limitations, I can't post images here, but you can find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=10162868096443365&set=pcb.3119198181601332
  2. I got a 300ZX back in January (as I posted about before). I knew it was a risk, that there were likely to be issues with it. In the end, I decided to only do the minimal work on it to keep it ticking over as long as possible (fixed some leaks, put some new tyres on it) & enjoy it while it still worked. Well, the other week, on the way up to Shrewsbury (from Cardiff), it gave up on the A49 near Hereford, where it was taken on the back of a lorry to be looked at. The garage has finally been able to take a look at it & it's effectively dead. To do any work on it, even before getting it to a repaired state, is going to be more than I'm prepared to spend on it. It's likely to be a head gasket that's gone. I'm going to have to pay to get it back to Cardiff - but if anyone is interested in a car which can be used for parts, or wants a project, drop me a line.
  3. Thanks & wonderful!
  4. Thanks. I've sent you an email.
  5. Could you let me know how I could contact you to discuss some of the work that's likely to be needed to do on the car, please, as I don't seem to be able to DM via this website.

  7. Yes, that's the one. There are a number of jobs that need doing - some more urgent than others.
  8. Sorry, needed to resize the others...
  9. Some photos of my car...
  10. Thank you! Sorry for the delay in responding - haven't been on the PC for a couple of days.

  12. Thank you! Sorry for the delay in responding - haven't been on the PC for a couple of days. I now have the car. The reg is G643YBA. I think the previous owner may have been in touch with you about some work that will need doing to it. It's hardly been used for the last 5 years - but managed to get me from Bradford to Sheffield without any problems (although it's going to take me a while to get used to how noisy it is due to the exhaust on it). Will hopefully get to Cardiff tomorrow.
  13. Thanks. Live in Cardiff, UK
  14. Thank you!

  17. Hi, my name is Chris and I am (I hope) about to become a 300ZX... or a Fairlady Z as I still prefer to think of them. I was first introduced to the car during my first ever trip to Japan back in 1989. I don't think I have any photographs of the car from that trip - but I do from my next trip the following year, when the family I was staying with took me to a showroom so that I could not only look at one, but also sit in one (photos attached). Despite always hoping that I would get a chance to own one, that never happened in the 1990s, and I've still not sat in one since May 1990! Now things may be about to change. I have been keeping an eye on prices of second-hand ones and having just returned from another trip to Japan (where for better or for worse I kept away from second-hand dealers and the temptation to get a 300ZX there and ship it back), and have found one at a price that seems fair for the quality of the car. I hope to collect it on Monday. Then the adventure begins. Will I be disappointed? The chances, I guess, are high. This has been my dream car for so long - can it possibly live up to the expectations? Also, I'm not technically minded, so if things go wrong (something I accept is likely to happen on a car of this age (the one I'm hoping to get was made in 1990)), I'm not the sort of person who has any idea about how to fix things themselves. I know I may regret trying to make my dream a reality, and I still can't quite believe that I may soon have one of these beauties sitting outside my house, but when I look at videos of the car on YouTube (I've been looking at those that have various tips about buying one as well as a few others), I can't help but feel good and excited. I have read a variety of posts here, and so now have some idea of basic do's and don't's when driving the car - but if anyone has any particular key suggestions (keeping in mind my lack of technical knowledge & that I've never driven a sports car of any kind, let alone one with turbos), then please do let me know.
