  1. Hi Alex, in what way are UK spec 300zxs inferior to JDM counterparts - condition aside (for fresh imports, certainly) as you have suggested is one thing; but if anything, the UK spec cars were generally superior to JDM cars in standard spec. UK cars pretty much all came with leather and cruise - and JDM cars had increasingly poorer spec later in the model's life, as Nissan cut costs to keep the price low! Good luck in your search, by the way. As suggested above, you'll certainly find a very nice example for circa £8000-£10,000. They are about, they just don't come up for sake that often.
  2. Not scuffed exactly; it's just looking a little tired with the swirl marks, despite lots of careful washing in the last 9 years. I put it on new, when I bought the Zed - and now wish I'd had it removed and got the area painted gloss black instead. Still, I can always get my local smart-repair guy to come and do it! Get it painted and sell the plastic strip - just don't show potential buyers this thread....
  3. Having seen Si and GSC's cars with this done, I would definitely go down the painted-on route.... ...The plastic strip does not age well - and becomes scuffed and dull over time, no matter how carefully you might wash it. I should have done this, when my Zed was in the bodyshop last year - live and learn!!
  4. Today - despite the snow..... …..nope, I didn't take it out  I simply sat in front of the PC and renewed the road tax for another year...
  5. Yup - if it is as clean as it looks, then definitely!!
  6. Exactly!! I am geographically in the South - hence ticked that option - but with regards meets, it's probably quicker for me to associate with the Midlands guys.... The M40 moves faster than the M25, for sure...
  7. Nice work - again - Russ.....
  8. Hello and welcome - and good luck in your search for a Zed.... Being in Bristol, you're best placed for the best 300zx mechanic in the UK - Jimmer - once you have acquired your dream car!!
  9. LOL - cheers folks...… Blue Zed thanks you all, from the bottom of his engine....
  10. 25 years ago today, my Zed was first registered..... …..So "happy birthday" to B5RFS..:happybday:
  11. Yup - and only on it's first paint job....
  12. Welcome back Alex - and good luck with your search for another Zed mate....
  13. Anything's possible; but that would still necessitate longer studs in order to secure the wheel nuts properly as the wheel itself would be thicker and the nuts would have less thread to secure to...… Not to mention the cost of these mods - which is probably not far off me having to buy new wheels... Yes JP; I can specify the offset and they'll make them. 35mm rears will certainly sit nicely within the arches - I think my current 9.5x18s are 35mm - but would 20mm (or even 25mm) offset on the fronts sit out a little too close to the outer edge of the arch? I think my current wheels are 32mm - they sit just inside and no rubbing occurs. I don't want to have the arches rolled - just want to pop the new wheels on with no spacers, messing around etc...!
  14. Many Happy Returns mate.....:happybday: Richard:cool:
  15. LOL - I sure did mate... Si would have been proud of me... Seriously though, after spending a few bob on welding, rustproofing and respraying last year, I like to think I have learned my lesson. I'm still going to keep it taxed all year though - just for those few mild, dry winter days when it should be fine to take the Zed out.....
  16. Cheers Gary - and just a shame the roads here are still covered in salty crap; following the six-inches of snow that fell on Tuesday afternoon... As I really wanted to take it out for a wee blast afterwards. But I resisted....
  17. Oh, and stick with 4300k output; for a look virtually indistinguishable from OEM - 5000k at the most. Any more, and your lights will be too "blue" so much easier to see you have an aftermarket HID kit... Which is now not road legal:wink: You'll most probably get away with the 4300k or 5000k lights. Even at MOT time, if you're lucky! The light is more useable on the road too; as the really blue kits tend to rob true light output and project less on the road ahead.
  18. Hi Mark, I'd advise fitting an H3 HID upgrade to the dipped beam projector unit mate. You will rarely need full beam afterwards - but for when you do, a pair of Osram Nightbreaker or PIAA Arros H1 bulbs will compliment them nicely. I haven't any experience of the factory HID lights form a 1999 spec car - but whilst the upgrade may be do-able, it's damned expensive; so the aftermarket HID kit is a more cost-effective compromise. Don't bother with so called LED upgrades though... I bought a kit for Julia's RR Evoque as she does not have HIDs as standard - and in all honesty the halogen bulbs are way better!! Sure the LEDs "look" bright, when you face the front of the car - but they project less usable light on the road than an old oil lamp...
  19. Problem solved..... …..I did try popping the boot light bulb back in, but to no avail. The damn thing just stayed on - along with the interior light - when I shut the boot... However I fitted a replacement boot catch, just £25 from an Ebay breaker, and the problem is solved. I could do with new bolts though, as the original ones are showing signs of thread stripping; so I don't want to be tightening them too much at the mo... And since the circuit appears to be in order once more, I decided to pop an LED bulb in the boot light afterwards. Let's hope I don't get the alarm issue that caused me to remove the bulb a few years back...
  20. Thanks for the subsequent replies folks..... …..And JP and Andrew are dead right; I don't want to faff about with bolt-ons, new studs etc... I have been busy during recent days, so haven't had the chance to call the wheel supplier. But I have decided the first option is to try and do a deal on a replacement pair of front wheels, with a 30mm off-set, so I won't need spacers:wink:
  21. Today, I started the Zed and drove it out of the garage..... …..So I could get to the rear of the car and replace the boot catch. Had an issue with the interior light not going out when the boot was closed. Changed the catch (£25 from Ebay) and all is well once more....
  22. Many happy returns Sandy - have a great day mate!! Richard:happybday:
  23. Seconded - fantastic work Si....
  24. Hi and welcome to the club, Ash..... ….And definitely agree!!
  25. Yes - fill to the top.... And then replace your radiator cap - oh, and also ensure that the overflow pipe is properly connected to the expansion tank from the radiator!! When you do fill it, be sure to release any air bubbles which have accumulated in the system. Start the engine and loosen the little nut on the opposite side of the filler neck, until the air bubbles stop and coolant alone starts to seep out.
