Details of Auto to Manual Conversion.
Considering most people have Automatics and Maunals are getting less and less in numbers. Where the hell are these people getting manual boxes from ;)

Is it me or have BMW lost the exclusive image
I mean, they are suppoesed to be the car that executives drive but on the motorway every other car is a BMW and around town and city you see them in convoy. I dont know how people think that they are the car for the rich/posh high powered people. You can get a 5 year old one for less then £4000. Most of the BMW on the road are the 316 or 318 which are not exclusive or expensive at all. My girlfriend said she met an old school friend and hes doing really well cos hes driving a BMW. Well its the type of thing that people pop into conversations. "Yeah, I work as a no-body in a huge company and I drive a BMW!" Like its supposed to be impressive. I know a few people on here may own a BMW but that will be as a daily driver because they are probably good cars but you dont introduce yourself as a BMW driver like other people do, or you dont think you are exclusive cos you drive one. You probably drive one becuase its more pratical then the Z. What my girlfriend failed to realise that BMW's cos from less then a grand for an old one to £60,000 - £70,000 for the huge fat cat ones. And BMW dirvers dont say what make of BMW they drive. Its just "BMW!" Its also official that BMW drivers are the most hated on the road. :D Moan over. Just wanted to put some life into this boring night. Stuart

Speedo problem
I had this problem on mine. Is it a UK car? Or Jap? This problem occurs when either the speed sensor or speed converter (kph/mph) plays up. But the steering goes all funny. On mine it was just the dial that went. Some times working other times I would be doing 80 and it shoed 0. And then the dial suddenly decided to work and then almost striaght away stop working, it would shoot accross to the other side. And if it then decided to start working again while on the otherside would work backwards:confused: Anyway. If its the dial, you can try taking the dial pod out and resolder the connections on the back of the dash and on the dial its self. I know some one people in the states have this trouble and most of the time resoldering it works. If not you can try to just buy the speedo but I dont know many people who are willing to split a dial pod up, so you may have to get the whole thing. I got a 2nd hand one for £125 from another UK Z. There is a difference with in the back of the dash for the connectors from a Series I and Series II dash. I have a Series I Z and got a Series II dash. I was a little peeved. However I took the dash pod apart and swapped the dials over. This then gave me the advantage of keeping the original odometre. Every thing is working fine now. Nissan quoted me £380+VAT I think it was for a new dial pod, and a US one only goes up to 160mph but I dont think that would be a problem. Ask AndyZ or any of the other people who are breaking a Z. Another thing. If you put a UK MPH dial in a Jap car, the dial will work in MPH, if you have a UK car and put a JAP dial in it, it will work in KPH. Stuart

300 purchase
Some 3-4 year old Z's do come for sale in Jap auctions, but they then tend to be spread all over the world. Austraila likes the Z too. Plus the numbers dipped a lot in the later years. If you want servicing I think Masarati have the record for that. I think it was over £2000 for a cam belt change  The Japan car this is the Tax on cars gets more and more each year over 3 years. So they tend to come over here when they are 4-5 years old. I agree with Gio about the expensive ones. You expect wear and tear clutch, brakes and maybe old parts failure like brake calipers seizing but with things like engine blowing they tend to be because of bad maintanace either by yourself, but 99% of the time by previous owners. Owners now are enthusuasts and take good care of the cars becuase they need it. Also damage is done by modifying the car incorrectly. The car can do 400bhp happily if its done correctly. Some people want the power as cheap as possible and will in the long run cause more damage. Stuart

Courtesy parts
There is no real way round it. If you could you could get someone in the US to buy it and then forward it on to you in new packaging. If you have it wrapped in gift paper type of stuff and write gift on it. They dont tend to charge you for it.

I really do need some help :(
Usually the rule is for Nissan Z parts like that, is thing of a price which is so rediculas but you are just willing to pay for it because you need it. Then double it. Examples Oil pressure sender unit. I got an after market one now £6 for a new sender unit. Nissan £80+VAT when I asked My speedo died. 2nd had dash board £125. Nissan £380+VAT Door handle AndyZ £25. 'Not actually that fast'
I think the fact that its smooth and quiet under acceleration helps. I took some one for a drive to show him what its like. After flooring it at some lights on the East Lancs, he asked how fast we where going and was very suprised that we where going 80mph

'Not actually that fast'
You have to drive the car a certain way. Not many people have the guts to floor it all the way upto 6000rpm change gear and floor it to 6000 again.

300 purchase
Hello and welcome. First of all you may know that most of the 300ZX's are Imports. You can tell by a few small things. Mostly they have Fairlady on the rear spoiler, and the badge on the nose of the car is of a Z while a UK car has a Nissan badge. Firstly ALL UK Z's are 2+2 seater, Twin Turbo with Targa-Tops. So if you see a non-turbo/NA its an import. If you see: 2 seater, Hard top, convertable they are imports. The reason I point this out to you is that imports tend to be more espensive to insure. Some places wont insure imports but most do. Years ago import owners got shafted with insurance but its getting better all the time, and even though there is a difference in insurance costs between a UK car Import its getting better. Secondly. How much you looking to spend? With a ZX you get what you pay for. I bought a shed at £4500. The engine is fine, high milage, but the body needed and still needs a lot of work. Thirdly: If you want the trill you want a Twin Turbo. The NA are fast but not a patch on the Twin Turbo. Lovely for the country drives. Forth: Manual or Auto. Go with what you like. There have been many fights on here bout that. Auto drivers say autos are better, Manual drivers say manual. But with Auto's the boxes do go and become expensive to rebuild. Some then go for a Manual conversion. Manuals have clutches which again are expensive to replace. If you want to tune up your car, the standard clutch will only hold about 350BHP, while an Auto would have no problems. So all in all, its upto your personal choice. However I would say about 80% of ZX's are Automatics and a Manual may be hard to find. Fith: All cars have problems. The ZX even though its an exceptional car, its no exception. Gurgling AVI valves is a very small problem which most people get. I think they where changed in a later version of the ZX. Most problems you cant really see untill you have the car a while. This is why history is very important. Import cars dont tend to come into this country with any history. To help you though, the ZX has a lot of self-diagnostic computers on. The ECU can give you clues to any problems. The ABS flashes codes of problems and so does the HICAS (4 wheel steering) If you want I can tell you how to start these tests. You best bet is to take some one who knows the car to look, or if you get one from a showroom, get a warranty then get it checked out. Is there anything I left out? You wont be doing 160mph down the motorway cos they are restricted to 155mph imports are 112mph :( Ask if you need more Stuart

High Tick over
Everything needs cleaning. :D Clean air filters, clean throttle bodies, clean water temp sensor, clean Throttle Position Sensor, I put a new fuel filiter on (should be changed every 15,000miles anyway) tighten rubber hose clips, reset ECU. Try this. Worked for me.

Bulbs
You can change them if you can find them but they have a habbit of blowing because of the heat inside the lighting area. Some people drill holes in the lighting housing to allow the heat out but I dont like the idea of that.

'28 Days Later', yup Zombies are cool again:)
3 times I have been to see a film which I had no idea of what it is about. I must say that it does make the experience more exciting. I watched A Knights Tale without knowing what the hell it was about which I loved. I watched Dogma even before it was mentioned anywhere, and I liked it. Also Escape to Paradice. The worse film ever. Power drain at low revs
I think its the choke. The Choke will put fuel in to keep it high revs to keep it going especially in these colder days. Lots of petrol goes in to keep it high, cos the normal amount would cause it to stall. You put you foot on the accelerator to pull off and the choke turns off because you would wheel spin at that high revs at least in the wet you would. So the choke is off but the amount of fuel being provided by the position of the accelerator is not enough to keep it running while its cold. Hence the hear stall. You can help this by cleaning out the fuel flow and allow the car to breath better. Start by changing the fuel filter, 2 mins job, change the airfilters, 10 min job (LOL ;)) clean the throttle bodies 20 min job and reset the ECU and the throttle position sensor after you done all this. I think you may be pleasently suprised. My car had irratic idle dipping revs on pulling off, I changed the air filter and fuel filter and reset the ECU and it been 100% better since. I had already dont the throttle bodies a few months before. Really you shouldnt do these small things when the car is starting to feel sloppy. You should clean the throttle bodies once a year at least. Change the air filters when required and fuel filter once a year. The Book says 15,000miles for the fuel filter, I do it less than that. E-mail `Q` from oversea`s???
Look at the header of the Email. It will tell you the IP address of the sender. Then use Whois to see who the provider of that IP address is. If its a UK address on the result its from the UK ;)

Nissan to release 350 zed twin turbo?
Jeez, 3.5 Twin Turbo. The NA is 280bhp Twin Turbo should produce 400bhp no probs at all. What a beast. :D

Gurling sound???
Errr. I dont think it damages anything so to say. The will not work while full of water. I hear that if they are not working it can make your car run 7% rich. I think drilling the hole to get the water out is better than having it full of water. I think its a tempory fix, but people have done it and kept it that way.

Anyone want to buy a 300zx?
Yes most insurance goes down if you add your husband or wife onto it.
-
Gurling sound???
Its sounds like your AVI valves. I think its called that. They are located in the drivers front wheel arch.
-
NoS
With some good intercoolers yes.
-
Rear Shock Absorber
Speaking of Koni Shocks. How much are they?

Anyone want to buy a 300zx?
Sound strange but the money you lose in selling your car, buying a new one, getting insurance for you and a learner, you could probably pay for lessons.
