Dump Valves
I dont think there is 1 definative answer. Some people say that Dump valves are better some say that recirc valves are better. The idea of recirc valves is that it uses the air back onto the turbo spinning it up faster. I prefer recirc myself

Hicas
There are many myths about HICAS. Some say it doesnt work until 20mph and some say it stops working at 30mph. Some one in the US put a light in the dash that light up when the HICAS was working. And he said that its working virutally all the time. I think he said its about 100mph is when it stopped working

Hicas
Thats with the later models of Z where the HICAS was electrical and not mechnical as it is now. :(

Wet !
One thing I think is great about the Z is its shape means you dont feel the wind. Normaly driving in strong winds you can feel the car being blown about. The fact that its heavy helps its stability in strong winds too. Stuart

Questions about Mass.......
The only reason to talk about mass is when you are talking about different gravitational pulls and the earths is constent. Unless you want to get into the whole granet/volcanic magnetic gravitational pull thing, but I really doubt that we will be driving out Z'd up a active volcano. Another point. If we are talking about mass and weight. Take the car to the moon and it will be faster because, obvioulsy the lack of air, the weight of the car will be less becuase of the weaker grevity. The engine has less force pushing down on the car to compete with, making the car lighter and thus faster. However the mass of the car will remain the same. So the lighter weight of the car made it faster not the mass, which hasnt changed becuase mass is not effected by gravity. Why does a car with a higher wing become slower than one with a low wing. The wind on the wing causes a pushing down force on the car makeing that part of the car heavier and this slower, but the mass is the same. A low wing has little wind forcing the car down when moving and the car is lighter and thus faster. When you are in a plate climbing steeply try lifting your legs. You need a lot of strength to move them. Why? Because they are heavier becuase of the extra gravitational pull on tham making them heavier. But the mass of your legs are the same. So I am right saying that weight effects the car more than mass. The Z is not driving in a weightless environment. If it was the mass would be everything. The Z has to compete with the gratiational pull of the earth which mass doesnt take into effect. Stuart

Questions about Mass.......
But you mean weight. Mass the amount of material in an object. If you get a metal bonet and a carbon fiber one exactly the same size they will have the same mass, becuase there is the same amont of material in both. Just that the carbon fiber one has less weight. Yes reducing weight is in most cases better. But there is little you can do. You can replace panels, get thinner glass, which would cost you a packet, talking way over £5000 and just for the panels. The extra thin light weight glass is more expensive. The vast majority of the weight of the car is the steel shell which you can not change unless you get a tube chassis specially made for you which will cost you tens of thousands, for which cost you could make your car go over 200mph. And there is little you can do about the engine. You start changing the internals to lighter components you are, again, taking tens of thousands of pounds.

Hicas
Top up the fluid and if that doesnt help you should perform a HICAS diagnostic on your car and that should tell you what the light is on for. I dont have that problem. My car has had the HICAS disabled.

Dont know the difference but I know that it is a lot lighter.

Overheated Fairlady
They tend to over heat cos of a pipe split, but I would not be suprised if it was the pump that did it. Of couse they are gonna say that its nothing to do with them. Cos it would mean the cost of an engine rebuild. Goto another place, there are loads who do better and cheaper jobs on a Z than Nissan do. Where you from? Cant see any problem with putting a UK engine into a Jap car. I think many people have done it but with a Jap engine in a UK car. Ask AndyZ he is usually breaking a Z or two ask him, Profile link here http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=14 If not I should think he can tell you the best place to find one. not run for 2 years!!
I dont think just putting oil in will stop it from seizing. I think is has to move too. But putting fresh oil in would help it alot though. Stuart.

Traction control
From Race Logic about £1000 with the Lauch Control and adjustable slip. But speak to Johnny at GPS, he can get a good deal for you. If you can get a few people to buy at once it would be better. Stuart

What colour is your Z?
Interesting to find out whats the most POPULAR ;) colour. Lets not be pick and click on the closest colour. If you have peal white, click white. ;) Stuart

Traction control
I had problems with mine when I got it. It would activate cos it wouldnt get a signal from one of the wheels causing my car to virtually stop when it got to 2000rmp, not good when you are trying to pull out of a busy junction. :( But RaceLogic and Andy where very helpful, and RaceLogic replaced my unit and it been workin ever since. But now its working its great. I use it mostly with fast full offs, foot to the floor and slip the clutch up and you get the odd delightful pop as the TC stops the wheels from breaking traction. In the wet I am glad I have it. It is a must for hard acceleration, like when you over take something. I also am glad when going round roundabouts. The road condition on roundabouts vairy very much. I lost a Seirra's back end on a roundabout luckly every one notice and dropped back. There was an accident there the day before and I must have hit some oil. I wasnt going fast either because there where cars going past me on the outside. In the dry Im not so bothered about it. I only really used it with fast pull offs. But it is fun, and frightning to go round roundabouts with your foot all the way to the floor in 2nd gear and let the TC keep your speed right. You get a slight drift which again is fun. It also feel strange having your foot to the floor going round and the speed is not changing. But as soon as you start to straighten up, the power is smoothy added untill you have full throttle. Some people say TC is a performance device, some say a safty device. TC does not make you go round corners faster. The car has always been able to corner at that speed just the TC works out when the safty level is and keeps it there. I can never tell if its saved my life. I could go round a corner slip on a bit of oil the TC pops to catch the traction and I would hardly notice and I would drive on not knowing what has happened. On the other hand, with out TC I could have gone round that same corner slipped on the oil, causing a wheel spin, and before I notice or have time to react I've hit a wall, treem oncoming traffic or even a child. You dont have to go fast to slip on the road. I tested out my TC when I first got it on an empty works carpark which is covered in those little stones. I floored if from stop with the TC off and the wheels spun almost straight away and just got faster. I got to about 15mph. I tried the same thing with the TC on, set to dry. Again, the wheels spun but the car was poping and I though it was crap, untill I looked and noticed the speed. 35mph. And it was in less time than the first attempt. I dont think it has taken any of the fun out of driving. I have had the arse kick out at 15mph in Liverpool switch island in rush hour and that wasnt fun. I wish I had it then. Roundabouts are more fun. They are safer to go round, and if you want to drift, change the setting to 20% and you will get a perfect drift all the way round and maintain it and if you want turn it off. Its all down to personal choice, like the whole manual/auto thing, (Now dont start that again;)) Some people dont like putting thier trust in electronics, even though we are trusting quite a few when we step into the car. Tyres are the only part of the car that are in contact with the ground. They make us stop, the make us go and they make us turn. Having TC makes sure that we dont over step the mark with the go and turning, so it cant be bad at all. ;) Stuart.

Bloody Rust
I feel this may well be the killer. I have some rust developing under the HICAS unit under the bonnet. I think that in one small area it may have gone all the way through. Is this repairable? I think it is. Take out the HICAS pump/solinoid, what ever it is clear the rust that is surface and cut out the small part that isnt and patch it with some good metal. Round that area doesnt look too structural its a fair bit away from the suspention turret. Any idea people? Is what I said plausable?

petrol smells yuk/airconditioning
I cant see how petrol would get into the AC system by accident. Its all pressurised and sealed. If you do have a leak petrol does not get into it. You most probably have lose fuel line clips in the engine bay. Get a screwdriver and tighten them up. Stuart

England team's crapness
Yup I agree. Shearer is still the best striker in the country. Well English one anyway. Tell me when Shearer has had a goal drought. They they slow down at some times and then start again but he scores goals. Heskey, went 35 games at Liverpool without scoring. 35 games!!!!!!. Most of a normal season, when is positions job is to score goals. He went ages without a England goal too, and I think the time he scored to stop the England drought was the 5-1 over Germany, so his goal wasnt important. Infact I think his was the 4th goal. I feel the press picks the side too. I see a lot of matches at work and the performace of Sol Campbell and Rio Ferdinand have been very bland and not played well since the world cup. To me Sol have been average since leaving Tottenham. Even though they where out of it for this match, they would have been in if fit. They are not picked for thier acheivements and hard work over the last few months which it should be, 1 or 2 good performances over 6 months ago.
