FAO Traffic Cop
I am led to believe, by a close friend in insurance, that his insurance company would pay out any third party costs (if he is insured) but would not cover any of his costs. They may well take him to court to recover tho

what am i doing wrong
there are two silver metal pipes which join onto the top and bottom rad hoses on the engine block, the bottom one (arrowed in the pic) comes off and the thermostat is underneath it. It is held on by 2 nuts (13mm) on the bottom and an allen bolt(4 or 6 mm, long reach)between the two pipes if I remember correctly. Be careful on the allen bolt between the two pipes, there are two allen bolts in there, one for the top pipe and one for the bottom.

Saxo Boys
Myself and a mate were going out yesterday along the catrham bends, a local fast set of sweeping bends. I was in my Mitsi Galant. I know the road really well and could (if on a similiar test track) take the first three corners at upwards of ninety in a car. While approaching the first bend a Golf GTi is up the back of me, now I am sitting at afew miles below "optimum speed" and thought fair play, and let him past. The silly little twat nearly lost the car on the bend (which has a waist height concrete divider), he was all over the place. Scary thing was thr "little person on board" sticker on the back window. Made me wonder if he put that there so people would know to look for a kid whilst searching the wreckage.

the best way I have found to flush the rad is to take the thermostat out. If you leaver it in, and flush with cold water, it never opens and so you are not flushing the whole system. Also I do run the engine while re-filling, I find that it clears air pockets better. it sounds like you have a big air pocket, which is expanding when she heats up, pushing water into the expansion tank, which is then in turn overflowing. There is a hole in the neck of the reserve tank, which will p1ss water if it becomes overfilled, making it seem like you have a leak.

Coolant leakage?
the reservoir has a hole in the neck so that it can not over fill. It is possible that in the coolant in your rad has expanded into the reservoir to the extent that it has flowed out of the hole (as it is supposed to). This would be more likely to hapopen if someone has filled your reservoir up at the same time as your rad, while they both are cold. The heat expands the coolant, which flows into the reservoir (which is already filled) and so spills out of the "overflow" hole. Check this befor epresuming that your reservoir is leaking :)

Strange warning light
have seen it before, looks like a couple of pipes with a heatwave over it. The sensor box is under the central consol, behind the handbrake if you want to unplug it :)
