  1. Well tested the fault codes and it has continuous flashing as the Battery died when I got locked out....... Lost any codes that may have been there..... So up she goes in a minute....... on blocks and drop the fluid and sump..... Back later with update.....
  2. Well been out in garden moving original transmission into my garage so I can see what I am doing.... Now bolted to my engine stand, drained and sump off...... I am going to slowly dissect it, bag and tag and try to see what I can find. I have the full manual and rebuild guide, so may as well try to have a look at how bad the old unit was and what gave way.... I'm off to the US in March, so going to try to buy a rebuild kit over there to avoid postage costs.....
  3. I literally do not have the money or time to do it........ plus I love my auto......... If it was Manual I would be sideways everywhere!!!!! And probably kill myself within a day or 2......... lol
  4. Hi Jeff, I used the one that came with the replacement box. It looked in better condition, so drained and refilled with fresh fluid before fitting.............. - - - Updated - - - If I find the problem I will let you know Paulc..........
  5. Cheers Jeff, I swapped the old box out and the replacement is doing the same thing... I thought I had done something wrong.... I cleaned the filter prior to fitting replacement box, filled with fresh fluid, checked level when warm and cycled through the gears. Then it did it again... I am now wondering if I might have caught the o'ring on the filter when I refitted it? I will check the fluid and run it through a filter when I empty her to see what it looks like...... Nobody seems to want to rebuild a transmission for me so I may give it a go on the original box when I get my work area clean enough to attempt it...... I did find that it is the same box as the RX7 and a few other Nissan's...... with a few subtle differences..... Thanks for the advice Jeff........ always welcomed......
  6. The problem I have:- I manage a few miles and then lose 1,2,3,D and R....... turn her off...... wait 2 or 3 minutes, start and get another 10 yards or so and then repeat process to limp home..... 100 yards at a time! Seems to be correct fluid level on dipstick.... I haven't touched her in months for my own Sanity and fear of Divorce....... I needed to take a step back and read up....... lol I have finally got enough time in leu to book wednesday off work..... as long as it isn't peeing it down or blowing a gale outside still...... (Wife at work, kids at school) I am going to warm her up and try to test the transmission again and see if she throws up any codes. If not then get her fluid drained and drop the pan again to check the filter seal? I keep trying to find out what could cause the problem I have of loss of any drive when she warms up, but returns when you let the fluid settle for a couple of minutes..... then drive temporarily returns! I keep thinking loss of line pressure due to o'ring not sealing on the filter? Lack of fluid, Blockage in system or Failing electronics?? If it was the clutch packs, surely it would just slip all the time hot or cold? And not in all gears? Only other thing I thought was unlucky and have 2 dodgy torque converters?? I can't find anything on the net with this same problem where drive returns....... What am I missing? I now have the full manual for the auto transmission, a full breakdown of parts used and suppliers of the parts....... just need to learn how it works, find what is causing the problem and fix it...... lol
  7. A lot of the time it is just a simple bad earth to the head unit / crossover...... is the head unit earth using the original power wires? You can always add a second earth to the head unit and crossover, taking it directly from a good earthing point! I am guessing you have amplifiers fitted if you are running a crossover? Any issues at the front end will be amplified and fed through the speakers.....
  8. I am after a pair of LWB door cards that are in 1 piece.... The covering isn't important as I need them to build a template of the speaker area..... Anyone throwing some out or want to donate to a good cause??..... lol Cheers Russ
  9. Hi all........ starting to replace the side skirts and found a load of rust on N/S front wing..... Any colour, just needs to be straight and as free of rust as possible..... Anyone got a good one they can sell me..... Even better if they are local?? Russ
  10. Did you remove the bottom cover plate between the engine and bell housing and undo the bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel???
  11. It has to be 'Spindoctor' selling this............ lol
  12. Welcome back safely mate............ Jaikai lost his purple beastie........... I just came back on here and nearly had a heart attack when I saw..........
  13. Reminds me of this...... and this classic monty python one......

  17. It's the advantage of having a 7 year old that can reach under the dash and enjoys spending time with his dad mending things........ lol
  18. Small child wedged up behind the dash Lee.........:shifty: I am all good now, just very busy at work, no time to myself and no time to do anything to my Z....... Still need to sort out the transmission problem or just replace it with a known good NA one...... One day she will drive gain, but looks like it will be 2017 before I get to do anything......
  19. Hi everyone, I took a break from the Z as well as the forum and have been working hard with the new Job as well as a few health issues lately..... I popped in and noticed this post... Can I say I would like to see Dan's car at the show. It is sympathetic to the original design and lines and to such a high standard it deserves to stand as what you can do to a 25 year old Icon...... I also would like to see SWB, LWB, NA and TT, Vert and slick top...... It would be amazing to show all the versions including a mix of years...... A diverse history of the 300zx! It would also be nice to see on display some original sales brochures and information......
  20. It's easy if you have big calf muscles and short legs.......:shifty:
  21. Well I got into her today... Jacked her up using scissor jack and blocked under front wheel, 2 wires to the starter and then attached to jumper pack...... enough juice to power alarm and popped the doors! So now the charger is permanently attached to the audio system in the boot. Next step is to fit a waterproof socket hidden away so I can add a 12v supply when I need to power up in an emergency.... Thanks for all the ideas...... Russ
  22. I would come....... but cannot push the Z from Southend to Bluewater, so will have to wait till it is back on the road I'm afraid........:whistling:
  23. Now you come to mention it..................... NO.............. I am way too good looking, he doesn't have my calf muscles and I don't have to duck under phone lines as I walk down the street.......
  24. I had an Orion 1600E with a series 1 turbo fitted and switched high/low boost, 5th injector on full throttle...... was very quick and gave me years of fun down Southend seafront cruising......lol
