Is that you stepping in to map my car then john? lol. Thats kind of what i was trying to say about just buying a chip. Only what i said was more of a guess than an actuall scientific explination. So thanks for that. Like ive said, cant really afford stand alone ecu, i know that i would be able to get more from the car and, again, like ive said, im not after a monster top end power. I want a fast road car, i believe that was the plan for this car originally. John, you've seen the car, would you say it has badly matched turbos/manifolds, cheap dump valves etc? Still with the plan i think, take it to Jeff for a full checkover, then am i back on the waiting list John? cheers danny

Remember that indian meal well smithy, dont remember much of the night round preston afterwards.lol. I think I do need to run the car to Jeff's. Normally i take the car to Phil at blackmore service station (used to be C&S wood) . Its been there recently for a boost leak etc, and as far as he says, everythings fine, but i dont know if he has all the electrical equipment to test any further. Im not on about getting a stand alone engine management system though. Thats why ive been looking for people who can map the standard ecu, or a chip that plugs into it. Turning into an intersting thread this, even i cant wait to see the outcome.lol. So Jeffs it is then, for the full checkover etc, then go from there. And if there is a chip out there that will just plug in and bring it all together, then ill be a happy man. I know the car is seriously down on power because my last Z had basic mods in comparason, stock tubs, injectors, chip etc. And there wasnt a lot of difference pace. This one is a lot more torquey though. Thanks again all, much appreciated. danny

Well mr kirbz, i know what your saying, but i didnt build the car, i bought it the way it is. And i know that i could take it much higher with an aftermarket ecu, but then i still need it mapping. But to be honest i cant afford to do that. If i was going to get one i would want something decent and they aint cheap. Like i said, i dont want to break records, just get the most, safely, out of the car, i know it was built to do much more than it is. Dont know why the boost dropped off like it did on the dyno, it holds better on the road. The turbo's shouldnt run out of puff at that boost though, there were cars with standard turbos running not far from that on the same RR day, and they held the boost. So im open to ideas on that one. Thanks everyone with the coments and help, i will get this car sorted sooner or later.lol danny

yeah, as above is a manual, but i believe still has the auto ecu, just socketed and chipped. what other info do you need? only put the full spec up there so there was no concerns about cooling and reliability etc. thanks all danny

Were to begin.lol. First off i wasnt saying pre-programmed chips were a bad idea, just that my engine has so many different and uprated parts, i cant see how a ready made chip can account for so many variables. As i understand it, these chips make assumptions about the engine characteristics and set the fuel and timing to them. I am by no means an expert, all i know is what ive heard from people and read. My theory with the live map is that however my engine responds/acts, the map will suit it. Without having to make assumptions or compromise. i understand that there will have to be certain compromises but i want to keep them to a bare minumum. So ill throw the gauntlet down then, ill post my engine spec up here, and current power, torque etc. And if you think you can supply a chip that will see a decent increase and get the most out of the mods, then just give me the date. I dont want to break any records with power, just get the most from the car safely. If im talking crap. and it has been known, let me know. think i should just come and see you lot anyway at some point. Cheers for the input though. Much appreciated. danny

Probably similar distance mate, but rising sun are cheaper and seem seemed to make more sense on the phone. So unless anyone has anything else to add i will use them. Not a Z specialist but i assume mapping 1 car is similar to another. cheers danny

Has anyone had any experience with this company. http://www.afrtuning.co.uk/ECU-Chip-Tuning.asp?Car=Nissan%20300zx I have emailed them and briefly spoke to them at TOTB about mapping my Z. I have been waiting for JD to do it but he must be to busy so i thought id sound these guy out. Im in manchester (roughly) and theyre in essex so if anyone knows somewere closer that can map the standard ecu then that would be good. I dont want a chip though, i want it proper live mapping. think theres to many different mods on the engine for a pre programmed chip. cheers danny

sorry mate, didnt see your post yesturday, i went. Not great weather, i want to enter that next year, no idea what that will take, but i know my Z will beat a good few of them cars there. I didnt even see another Z in the crowd. Madness danny

Phil at blackmore service station (was at C&S wood) Blackmoor Service Station 363 Manchester Rd , Astley, Manchester, Lancashire M29 7DX Tel: 01942 883348 I wouldnt take my Z anywhere else. And he doesnt charge the earth. He built my Z and a good few others on here, engines, shell swaps, whatever. Cheers danny

astra 2.0 turbo diesel problem
I had the egr off mine, it was covered in thick black crap. Cleaned it, free'd it up, put it back on and no difference at all. There is a little valve near the egr with a small vac pipe joining them together, it has an electrical connector on it aswell. thought that could be broke. What you suggest? New egr? cheers danny

astra 2.0 turbo diesel problem
i have a 1.7dti astra with that problem, lights constantly on, unless i brake really hard, then it comes back on when i accelerate (well, it doesnt accelerate, but ya know what i mean. If i go on the motorway and floor it, when the revs get to about 3500 in 5th, the turbo kicks in and its fine until i turn the ignition off, then back to no turbo. Tried oil level, all connectors, had it plugged in to an AA laptop, no joy. Common fault i believe. Let me know how u get on mate. good luck. cheers danny

performance brake fluid
Many thanks mate, so no 1 specific brand that people use/dont use then. Just didnt want to go and spend a fortune haveing my brakes flushed and bled then read a post saying whatecer you do, dont use... But if its just a case of finding a decent one with all the right figures, party on. Thanks again danny

performance brake fluid
ive read old posts and info about different grades etc. but want to know which is the best oil to flush and replace my existing oil. car will be used for road and track and has r33 brembos all round with braided hoses. currently running 400bhp at the fly, but will hopefully soon be more. thanks in advance, danny

Which brake fluid?
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but i want to get my brake fluid flushed etc. Boiled it a bit at the japfest, i also have the R33 callipers. So just wondering how your finding the SRF? I will be doing track days but i use the car on the road a lot, and like you chris, ive never boiled them on the road, it was only at the end (lap 6/7) of castle combe that the went a bit spongy. Or anyone with any other suggestions for a good track/road brake fluid. cheers danny

Oil cooler.Alternative mounting positions.
I have a 24 row mocal oil cooler in the standard position, but thats in front of a power enterprise racing rad which is massive. No cooling probs, weather it be drag, track, traffic etc. Infact i struggle to keep it warm on a gentle run on the motorway when its cold. cheers danny

Best handling mods?
Decent tyres, otherwise you wont be getting the best out of any of the mods. And a rare one that im going to be doing at some point, driver tuition, no offence and you might already be a racing driver, but i think thats got to be the 2 best handling mods money can buy. Cheers danny

the car you should have kept
Honda civic type R, had it between Z's, by far the best car ive ever owned and i will defo have another, usable daily, hit the track at weekends, or throw the bikes and camping gear in. And it runs, everyday, no matter what. Not that i dont love my Z of coarse, but you love with your heart, the brain would say what are you doing binning money into a car you can hardly ever drive.

300zx. Possible turbo and clutch issues.
Im no expert but id say your clutch is on its way out. Do you know what clutch is in there? Will have to be something fairly heavty to handle that kind of power. As for the powerloss, bring on the experts. cheers danny

wipers wont stop
Do you mean the white box near the bonnet catch, i replaced that last year. Thought that was for the intermitent wipe. It fixed that when i replaced it. Ill check for loose wires behind the fuse box this weekend, that should be fun. Meanwhile ill look out for a newer motor. Thanks for the replies. danny

wipers wont stop
as above. with the ignition on, even with the wiper switch off. the only thing the switch will do is make them go faster if you turn it to the fastest setting. read threads about this but non seem to come to a conclusion. have tried a new relay, had the switch apart, which all apears fine. took the top off the motor were the plastic cogs and sensor thing is. cant see anything broke or corroded. i can get hold of a new motor but its of a z of a similar age and mileage (94 and 145k miles) so wont that be ready for giving up aswel? any advice or anyone with a newer motor would be appreciated. cheers, danny

Bridgestone s02
Thanks for the help guys. Got them on order, 225 front ad 265 rear. In my opinion these tyres are worth the messing around. Just want to get them on then i can get it mot'd and running before the sun goes away. thanks again danny
-
Bridgestone s02
phoned thistlethwaites. they said the 235,s are on back order with no date. but the 225,s are in ready supply. am i going to mess up the handling by fitting a slighty narrower front tyre. thanks again. danny

Bridgestone s02
Cheers pete, ill give them a ring 2moz. But they're the same company as barry and wilkinson in leyland and they cant find that size. I cant find them on the web anywere either. Maybe they've given up making that size. cheers danny

Bridgestone s02
I know the 'which tyre' thread has been done time and time again. But ive decided on the bridgestone so2 for my Z. It has them on now and i find they are amazing. But it needs new ones and cant seem to find anywhere that sells them in 235/40/18 for the front, think theres a 245 or a 225 but not the 235. So does anyone know where i can get a 235 or which would be the best alternative size? thanks danny
