Last week a recovery truck tipped up early evening at the workshop with a broken zed on the back and an owner 150 miles from home, a recent soft spongy feel had been replaced with a sudden loss of clutch and no way of engaging gears with the engine running, a quick look at the clutch fluid, master cylinder and slave cylinder looked all good. However by removing the actuator fork rubber boot where it enters the gearbox revealed the problem a broken pivot bolt, not unheard of but not that common to be fair. Nothing for it but to remove the gearbox, a clearer view of bellhousing and the operating fork pivot bolt. The clutch plate and cover were n…

How easy it is to get caught out by an everyday zed job that should be a run of the mill cambelt swap , this one was hindered by a rather stubbord lower pulley, this is nothing new and did not phase me, but after 15 minutes with my trusty puller I was thinking something was definately going on. Normally when removing the crank pulley once the centre bolt has been slackend off the puller is attached and a few moment later its off, but not this time, best part of two hours! but this was the only way to go as once I had identified the potential disaster of rushing I went for the slow gradual route of loading the pulley pressure to almost breaking point and waiting 10 m…

well, order this Tuesday night, got sent out Wednesday morning, and arrived today. was a bit dubious about it working, as my older hid ballasts havent got any lables on other than the make, so had a bit of a guess at what wattage they were. so this morning the new one arrived. slim it said in the advert for it, and slim it certainly is, to the point its virtually non exsitant lol anyway, plugged it in, and switched them on, works perfectly :D now just need to replace the driver side so i have a matching pair. does look nice though and ultra slim so much easier to place where you want it using the exsiting wires i had from the old unit. anyway size comparis…

  15. As title what would be the pro's and con's of this setup?

  16. I was in a little diesel shopping car for about 6-8 months. No-one paid me any attention. Now I'm back in the 300 people seem more likely to get out for some roadside remonstration. Co-incidence? Also, the police took no interest in the little motor but when I pass them or they pass me in the 300, they always try and look in.

As some of you know i changed the 4 plugs not under the balance bar last week. Having now got the right o rings etc i plan to change those 2 tomorrow.. However Since i changed the other 4 and pried the balance bar up maybe an inch but not off i have developed a horrific rattle from that area on the drivers side.... Basically this rattle sounds like a metal on metal high speed rattle. It only does it under load, i.e not when you just rev it... also it does NOT do it when you change down and the revs peak or you hold the revs at any point. It literally only does it (and its really loud) when you push the throttle, gets progressively worse the m…

After a 2+year make over, the zed is nearing completion! I've had an engine stripped and rebuilt, replacing and uprgrading every little bit. The engine is finally finished and has been run - all looks good. Should be good for 500bhp In the meantime, the zed is at the bodyshop. Its been stripped right back to the metal, rot removed and new panels installed. They have just sent a pic with the engine bay now painted in its nice new top secret colour. And whilst this is all going on, my entire interior is away for a custom make over. All going to plan, the zed should hit the road by June. Sorry, i know i'll be asked for pics but i'm gonna w…

Well I've done some searching and can't find anything that really helps with my current situation All of the rear arms are now off the SWB and the HICAS arm has successfully been seperated from the rear ball joint. The intention was to heat and beat the ball joint/bush out whilst it was on the car, however that is looking very unlikely. So I decided to remove the hub. I bought the 36mm socket that was required but typically it's not possible to undo this whilst the arms are removed, as the hub just turns on the driveshaft So option three is to remove the dive shaft from the diff and heat and beat the ball joint out in a vice...…

Ok so its taken me 3 nights trying to get the diff in place using poly mounts. What is the correct way in fitting the diff? I've been locating the rear threads in to the 2 cups first then trying to bolt the 4 bolts and bracket to the front of the diff. But when I try to align the bolt holes up they are about 5mm out. What am I doing wrong? Pic below Thanks Dan.
