all my problems this week seem to be oil related.....i recently changed the oil in my 300 and not really wanting to use mobil 1 because a couple of years ago they got a very bad reputation in motorsport...a freind told me to opt for the new mobil 1 motorsport oil as it was supposed to be better than the normal mobil 1...and slightly thicker....well since putting this oil in the car i am getting a rattle from the engine until the engine is up to temperature...all i want to know is has anyone else used this oil, if so does your engine rattle?.............i am thinking of changing it for valvoline oil pretty soon....expensive engine flush i hear you say..... cheers.....…

Noticed that my tailpipes are pretty black and sooty inside, might my engine be running rich? I'm told that as far as the inside of the pipes are concerned, light grey = running lean, medium/dark grey = normal, and black = rich... does this hold true with the Z? If so, is there much that a novice can do about it, or is it into the garage for me? Thanks guys, Raz

My jap import TT gives a reading of +7 on the turbo gauge. Apparently I shouldn't get full boost unless its been chipped etc. I have added any mods.. Is this so or how can I check... Steve

I replaced my front disks about 5 months ago with some nice grooved and drilled ones by Tormoz as the standard ones were crap. They must have warped as they started juddering slightly a couple of months ago under braking. After taking my Z up into the hills for a real thrash on sunday, I got in my car the next morning and now as soon as the brakes warm up they shake like hell. It feels like the wheels are going to come off, anything loose in the car goes flying and I can't hold the wheel tight enough! Aaaargh! What have I done? I heard it is a common problem with these cars but what causes it? If I replace them is it just going to happen again? They cost me £250 wit…

Bells fully functional again, it just needed reprograming under instalation mode. Right; ok our lights we all know are pants, at the weekend someone suggested reducing the distance between the bulb & the lenz itself! As a maglight torch! Hmm, and so to give a light beam rather than a ring semi circle on the road. (brains now doin 20 to the dozen) so I'm willin' to have a go, by milling the plastic ring that holds the ali bulb holder shorter in testing stages to see if there is any improvement. Thus keeping all parts the same But I need a donor light to experiment on pref o/s as this seems to be the worst. So who's got one spare or goin cheap. Or has th…

I know at lot of you would like to be able to search this site so I wrote a little tool that will download your selection of pages from the 300zx.co.uk general forum. Once complete (took around 3 hours for all 1070 pages - np for unmetered users) you can work offline and search to your hearts content. Just open the history explorer bar, hit the search button and enter your keyword. Craig/Nico if you are not happy about this please get in touch and i will remove. Cheers guys, i hope some of you find it useful - i did :-) Click here p.s. only works in MSIE5+, couldn't be arsed with all that extra Netscape coding.

Hi all, I've got a feeling that my Z is not handling as well as it used to. It's a jap spec 90 NA and seems to have more roll when I hit bends these days. It also feels like it's behaving a bit unpredictably when cornering at higher speeds. Is there anything I should check or am I being paranoid? My mate's got a Boxter and he commented that he thought the handling on my Z was crap (and that was before it had got worse), will his Boxter handle better than a Z. Cheers, Andy

Sorry to post another vibration problem, but my car seems to start vibrating around 30 and easies at around 60. When the car is vibrating it also seems to struggle on power. Could this be a prop problem or an alignment issue? Does the speedo conversion have any baring on how the car adjusts performance as the speedo occasionally reads 0 even though I am going at around 30. I presume I might just need to conversion checking.

Anyone ever fixed a leaky water pump? I noticed a trickle out of mine last week and decided to investigate. Now my beloved Z is up on axle stands with the radiator out and I can't get the crank pulley off! Is it possible/advisable to use "sealant additive" on this engine? I tried a "de-sludgeing" additive last year and it punctured my heater matrix. Thanks all.

Hi I noticed that there are quite a few Z owners down south east of london and also noticed that there seems to be quite a a lot of interest about meeting near or at Crawley Down Nissan, so here is my suggestion. A get together for anyone who can make it on May the 6th somewhere South East of London near Crawly way (not being biased at all me) or somewhere near there anyway, I know that Haywards Heath, East Grinstead and all that are near to me so we should be able to get a reasonable rally up and running. What do you think ?? Dan

Silly question I know but wots the mileage lifespan of a standard nissan clutch. For the past few days mine has been slipping at about 4k to 5k rpm. Mine was fitted 15k miles ago. Have been forced to turn boost down to 6psi by plugging boost jets, normally run at 12psi. I guess I was on the limit of standard clutch with the modifications I have got. I just wondered how long they usually last. Check out my website for full spec on my car. Ta Eddie ;-)

My car has developed a vibration between 70-80mph, which I think may be propshaft related.(not wheel balance) What are the parts to replace, and how much am I looking at? I seem to remember someone mention the 'centre bearing' and 'uv joints' can be at fault. JEZ

I know a lot of you are in the I.T business anyway but if your company doesn't supply hardware give me a call. My (own) company supplies I.T services and support to businesses so I can supply most brands of hardware and software. Other stuff I can get includes digital cameras and some A.V kit. Eg Sony TV's & Audio stuff. If you need anything I'll give you guys a good price. I could also do a deal/swap some hardware/labour for some Z upgrades if any of you guys are interested. At Doncaster there was a stall selling those fuel cats. You know the ones that look like a gauze bag of lead balls. They claimed it increases the octane of 95 unleaded to 99. I think personally this must be total bollox. Even proper octane booster only claims to boost it to 97 and thats £10 per litre. This is all well and good for maxy power boys who fit them to their saxo's and convince themselves that they have got 20hp extra but this could be very dangerous for someone with a proper car running high boost thinking they are using 99 octane gas. It would be great if it were true then I could buy cheap petrol again. Has anyone tried one of these? Paul
