Looking through previous posts I noticed that some people have Z's that start to smoke after idling for a while, they described this problem as probably the rear turbo seals going. My Z has recently started doing this, but only after an oil change from whatever to Magnatec, and an HKS filter fitted. The only time it did this previously was when I tried to adjust the idle up a bit as it was indicated low. (turned out to be and incorrect reading.) I turned the idle screw and it started to belch out loads, and I mean LOADS of white smoke...swiftly set back to normal! Perhaps the better oil has exasperated the problem. But it doesn't seem to do it if the car i…

A couple of people were asking at SE on Sunday about these 'toys' which measure performance. There's a couple available on http://www.race-technology.com/WebPage/Products/Accelerometer/PerformanceMeterIntro.html which seem to represent reasonable value for money. If anyone goes for one, post results on here ! Dave

Last weekend I cleaned my throttle bodies - they were filthy. Did the disconnect the power bit to reset the ECU, which helpfully reset all the radio stations too. Anyway, before I started the idle speed had always been a bit erratic and rather high, typically 900-1100 ish. Afterwards it was sitting happily at about 1300, so I finally decided to do something about it. Engine running, autobox in neutral, a/c off, disconnected the AAC sensor, turned the idle screw clockwise A LONG WAY, felt like almost as far as it would go and it's now recessed some distance into the casting (I would have expected mabye only .5 to .75 of a turn but that's just based on experience with other…

Finally finished bedding these in last night, thanks to some info on the net (took 5 days of various different speed braking). one word: wow. My brakes have always been pretty good I thought.. they were a bit shit when I bought the car 3 years ago, but once I stuck mintex 1055s on and changed to DOT5.1 they were pretty good. However I still couldn't lock the wheels in the dry (I have 245 fronts though). But they would get to almost that point. Fading would not happen much, until >10 100-0 stops which wasn't bad going. However, with the 20 grooved disc and greenstuff, it's simply awesome. Braking does not fade at all (I've been thrashing it today.. includ…

shamelessly cut and pasted from someone in the 200sx forum NEW ENGLISH SLANG DICTIONARY, 2001 Abra-Kebabra: A magic act performed on Saturday night, where fast food vanishes down the performer's throat, and then shortly afterwards, it suddenly reappears on the taxi floor. Aussie Kiss: Similar to a French Kiss, but given down under. Titanic: a bird that goes down first time out. Back End of the Batmobile: The state of your Brass Eye soon after you eat a really hot curry. I had a Ring Stinger in the Benghazi restaurant last night, and now I've got a dose of Gandhi's Revenge. My arse feels like the back end of the Bat…

I've recently bought a Jap import 300ZX Twin Turbo with auto transmission. On the forward side of the transmission selector lever, near it's base, there is a red switch which appears to slide up and down. What the hell does it do and how does it work? My Jap language handbook provides no clues whatsoever. Dodgy

Gave a Lotus 340R a good chasing today. He couldn't get away from me on straights but it was seriously quick round the twisties. The guy nearly lost his hair at about 100MPH! First one I've seen one the road - looks like a moon lander or something. I have never been too impressed by pictures of these wierd roof-less machines but after seeing one in the metal I want one! The exhaust note sounds superb too and that smell of racing oil Aaahhhhh. The car was a demonstrator from JCT600 in Leeds/Bradford area.

I've even sent mails to there customer depts to get a choice of suitable models, absolutly no response at all. Been to the usual harry's & mots, "wot car are the for" " hugh wots that then - sorry mate". Tony, Craig, george and anybody else give me a number or site name to go on please, this is getting rediculous. In an ideal world I would find:.... 5 spoked, polished dished, ctr nut. Similar to a 355 GTO in 18's. C'mon guys give us some links. Thanks harve.

Also had a 1600 Escort Sport MKII and it was great Bloody mal-adjusted front wheel drive shite nowadays.. previous to my deadZed I had a Carlton GSI3000.. marvellous beastie.. A proper car.. lots of BHP and driven by the rear wheels Oh well.. just reminising.. Peace and no safety boozt. Glen

Sorry guys I having a gripe. Bl**dy Nissan Main Dealer Bl**dy Warranty Company My Z needed new Diff Oil Seal & Camshaft Oil after diagnosed at 'C' service last month. The garage phoned the warranty company who said at the time it was covered. get aphone call this morning (as its gone in for the work) to be told its now not covered ARRGGHH! So I moan on about not documenting contact with the warranty company, not taking names or getting an approval number before booking in for work, added a touch of 'as agesture of goodwill you should contribute to the labour if you want my continued business etc...' and now half got the hourly labour rate ha…

Going to order my ASP under drive pulley kit from GR, Phuong is asking me how many ribs there are on the power steering belt? Should be 4 but he wants to be sure, so what I need is someone to confirm this for me. Anyone with a Twin Turbo Auto. if you could just have a quick look for me. I would look at mine but I'm not going all the way down to SE to check...LOL! Cheers Tim ;-)

Hi Chaps, Hope everone's well, here's a question for you. Every time I drive up a hill the steering goes heavy. It only happens on hills. Has anyone else experienced this and if so to you know what the problem is. The power steering fluid is full and the steering has been checked out by Darren and all read outs show OK on the CONSUL test. Like I said the steering behaves itself under most conditions but doesn't like steep hills. This is not weather related as it does it rain or shine just hill related. I think...?? Appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

You all know my thoughts about the lovely Supra MK IV...blah, blah, blah! But I've just read this on TT.net, and I am impressed...not too mention the fact that Toyota have been cheating and frigging the figures for the media! Shock, horror, I'm disgusted! Comments? ----------------------------------------- I am tired of hearing AND seeing Supras getting all the publicity and hype. HYPE thats exactly it is, Dont for one minute believe that our Z's are inferior in anyway to the Toyota Supra MK IV(im not going to trash talk about the appearance or anything i am just stating thr facts!!) I dont need to give anyone the history about these two rivals.. …

Hi, Has anyone here drive a Z with a auto gear box that has also got a manual switch on it so that the driver can change gears at his/her discreation? I am interested in getting one fitted on my car when I upgrade the auto box to be able to handle some performance upgrades? Are the later autoboxes the same as the early ones apart from the improved oil cooling? Has anyone experienced any problems with later autoboxes or SE-Nissan modified earlier ones. The reason I'm asking this is that it will cost me approx 250 small, squidgey sea creatures for a big oil cooler, plus 250 more for a full 60K service, plus extra to get my prop sorted, plus possible extra if my cylinder heads develop the problem that very early Zeds have and if the gearbox is still not totally dependable then I would prefer to just sell the car now and put the extra money towards a newer/different model. I'd just like to be able to drive to Switzerland next month withou…
