General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Today my Z suddenly started missing really bad and gradually lost power over a couple of minutes backfired a lot and stalled. The car would not start again and just cranked and spluttered. Left it for 5 mins and it fired up again. 2 minutes later it did the same thing again and has been the same all the way home this afternoon. I pushed the PTU and coil connectors in but no difference - just seems to need a 5 minute break! Any ideas?

hi guys, are there any drivers near me? the reason i ask is because i would like to have a closer look at some other z's to see how mine compares as i think its not running propley, also i can get a better idea of mods i could do and just to chat to other owners. cheers aki

afternoon all as some of you may know my sister reversed into my z after xmas, well the insurance company has agreed claim so I need to know the part nos for ALL the undertray parts. now just have to decide whether to go for a stillen or new 99 OEM front. where's Johnny

Guys, I know the light thing kicks around a bit, here's my sixpennorth. Just before the Poole meet I changed my dip lamps to 130W. OK, so technically it's illegal, but by God I could see where I was going. Didn't do the main because a:never get to use them and b: they are a serious pain in the arse to do. However, that's bye the bye. Yesterday, one of the new lamps blew on the way home. At least, I hope it was the lamp. So, power to much for the heat dispersion or something. Back to the basics, perhaps JeffTT's mod may be the only way to go.!!!!

Hi guys Computer packed up recently and is going to cost upwards of £100 to fix, now its getting a bit dated only 5 gig and 266mmx pent II. So my reconing is that is not worth spending money on it - but the screen and keyboard etc is fine. Main requirements is internet access and enough power to play wolfenstein and half life (ithink 700 and above should be plenty) DVD while an advantage wouldn't be top of my list. So what sort of money should I be looking at and where are the best places to go - second hand, recon etc is fine. Thanks in anticipation Mark

Having carried out all the tests and diagnostics I can think of I am forced to conclude the auto box has a mechanical fault. Since the box changes to third and fourth when the throttle is released but drops back to second as soon as I touch the throttle I can’t believe that there can be anything too major gone wrong and I know that a lot of auto box repairs will stitch me up for a complete rebuild! Can anyone recommend a good auto trans repairer who knows the Z set-up or is there anyone on the forum who knows these boxes and wants the job? Preferably in the south but I can travel (slowly) if necessary.

hi guys, there is a cerain mom steering wheel that I really like. my question is... how do I fit a new sterring wheel without loosing the control for the "cruise control"? set-coast-res (or whatever they are ai can't remember) PLUS the horn... I know you can buy those plates that go behind (I think) the new wheel and have one or 2 buttons... but can I use fit up to 4 buttons for the 3 cruise one and a horn... maybe all replacemenet wheels already have the central logo-horn button? thanks

Is any one else having problems getting onto Hotmail. I cant get onto my account and I cant log onto messenger using that hotmail account, but I can log on with another one. Any one with the same problem here? Stuart

1. Anyone know how the plastic covers are meant to be attached? Both mine have sheared off (have sourced replacements from AndyZ) and I have no idea how they are supposed to be taken off / put on. 2. Any ideas why when I press the headlamp wash button the windscreen wipers start? Dunno if they're meant to do this and, to be honest, I don't even know if anything comes out the lamp squirty things as I can't see them when I'm driving... Any ideas?

Right boys and girls, Do I sell the Z like I was going to? OR........ Do I throw more money at it and go for, New Blitz exhust and induction kit (how much for me Johnny?) headlight upgrade, meshed front end, new spoiler (either from Jamie* or Luke at Z centre) air-con replacment and few other bits and bobbs that I have priced up? Can only put it down to some gaskett sealant used on my stock zorst when the gearbox was done! Coz since Andy Duffman fitted my Blitz on yesterday...no more stinkin'!!! No more stinkin', much more responsive motor, much quicker aswell so can't wait to get the Blitz induction kit on!!! Jesus!

I have a complete set of Z wheels with the standard 225's on them. Reason being that the previous owner either skimped or did not know that the rears should be 245's. The fronts have 5mm of tread, the rear have 4mm and the wheels were balanced 6 weeks ago. Am looking for £220 all in. OK People Have 2 turbos for sale for the beloved 300ZX. Was keeping them as spare just incase I had problems with mine but a company car is ordered so there isn't such an urgency now. Anyways, I have not seen them in action but I guess that anyone wanting them will probably exchange them for Hibrids. However, I can confirm that there is hardly any play on the spindles. Just been out for another test drive, trying to find fault on auto box. I have noticed that although the box will not change from second to third gear under acceleration, the minuet I release the throttle pedal the box instantly changes to fourth gear, I can then change down to third by switching the over drive off. As soon as I touch the throttle pedal (barely applying any pressure) the box instantly changes back down to second gear. Does this indicate a particular fault?
