Hi all , I've just bought a 300zx TT Auto Jap90 , literally just off the boat , registered 2 days ago. Monster Exhaust , interesting wheels , its going to be more fun than my last car ( A4 Quattro ) thats for sure! Having driven it quite hard ( weather permitting ) I have noticed at speeds of 60 plus , a slight chiming noise every 3 seconds coming from the engine area. Its has a 60k belt change , recent oil/plugs etc. Does anyone have any idea what this might be , appreciate any help. Cheers!

Ok, so changed filter, stupidly didn'y pay attention to which way round it was. Domed end facing the battery? The flow going towards the engine? Its just that car won't start now, is it commonly tricky to start again after replacing filter? Oh, also took off TPS just to have a look. And tightened up the throttle cable as it seemed a but slack. Any idea's? I'm hoping its just taking a while for the fuel to get back through but thought that would be pretty instant. Thanks....

Can anyone help me, please? I need to change the plate that sits behind the metal loop that the door catch closes on:confused: - sorry about that poor description, don't know a better way to describe it. One of the threads is knackered, by the look of it, has been bodged with a bolt, and so the door doesn't really shut quite properly, meaning that the microswitch in the door, doesn't get, well, switched ;) The problem is this - I have the part, but how on earth do I get to the back of the door frame to fit it? Also, I don't have a "door-open" warning light, is it busted, or do they simply not have them on Series 1s? Any advice much appreciated. …

As my clutch is on its last legs, I'm planning on getting one of those RPS clutches (speak to ya soon Smithy), but can anyone suggest a good garage to fit this clutch? Local would be good, but at the end of the day I dont mind travelling for that extra good and reasonably priced service! Also, is there anything else I should do or get changed when the clutch gets done? Thanks in advance to all replies!! Mark :D

Hi Guys, I was driving home last night when all off a sudden my full beam came on and i relized that all of my dash lights were not working. The only thing on the dash was the blue full beam "icon". So i puled over and found that whenever i switch my low beam lights on, nothing happens. When i switch to possion 2 (headlights) the full beam comes on, i have no dashboard lights(cant see the cluster) and my rear tail lights do not work. The brakes, hazards, indicators and door lights are all ok and i can "flash" people with the lights off. I have searched all of the 300ZX forums i know about and found it to be the "clearlens illumination" fuse. (in car, t…

Don't know why on this freezing morning I decided to do a few bits on the Z -but there you go. Got a new fuel filter to chuck on and was just wondering if the old one will be under pressure and I will get a face full of petrol as I disconnect it? Also was going to give the AAC valve a little clean out as I did the throttle bodies a few weeks ago but not sure where this is or what it/they look like? at the back of the plenum? Thanks alot guys........ James.

  16. Hi, I vaguely remember a Classic car mag article informing about a insulation material for wiring etc. The reason being, is the mechanic, Dazza the Z man says he has never seen a Z with the original knock sensor intact from heat!! Does anyone know of any links for this sort of stuff? I might as well do it while the engine is in bits!! Maybe my job is getting to me!!!!!! LOL Mark

Hi all, I get a strange noise when I turn the ignition on. Sounds like I'm pressing the windscreen washer squirt button. It seems to be coming from the back inside of the car. The noise only lasts a second and is not getting louder or quieter just the same each time. It happens beofre I start the car (not as I start it). Any ideas what this could be ?

Think the starter motor's on its way out. For a while now, it's been making a slight noise after starting. Like the teeth haven't disengaged the fly wheel properly for a fraction of a second. But tonight, it's started getting worse. Twice now I've tried to start it and I've just received a grinding noise and no turning of the engine. Only on the second attempt does it work. Which probably means that in a day or two it won't start at all! Anyone care to render an opinion on the problem? And also, does anyone know the price of a new starter? Cheers Mike

Hi Guys Just had a look at a 1990 uk spec manual TT for sale. Under the oil filler cap, there was a small amount of white residue. The owner said the car had been standing for 3 weeks. We went for a 10 minute drive. On re-examination of the oil filler cap some residue remained. I got him to rev the engine whilst I looked at the exhaust. A jet of water flew out of each tailpipe (std system). Will leaving a car standing for 3 weeks result in such a build up of water? If it is a knackered head gasket, very roughly how much are they to replace? Also the oil pressure gauge didn't give any readings. Is that just a faulty gauge? Thanks Jon

Ive got a slight problem with removing the cluster. Ive removed all of the dash around it and all the necessaries and all I need to do now is remove the connectors from it. But... when everything is removed theres a connector on either side of the cluster, on the top, for the warning light connector... Now how do you remove this? If I could remove this it would be no problem to remove the others, only these 2 have no slack on the cable and I cant get behind it very easily. Thanks in anticipation Clarkey

I just phoned up my insurance company for a renewal quote to find out that my car is insured with them as a G reg '90. I explained to them that it was an '89 and they were trying to argue with me that my car was not made before '90. Geese, how fickle can you get. Then they said ok we will settle this by doing a trace on the car. They came back saying the car was a '99 Fook me, I wish !!!!. I explained to them that this is the year that it was imported into the country. They then put me on hold for a couple of minutes and told me I needed to fax across the Registration document. I've been with this company for 6 years now and never had any problems. It seems as thoug…
