Hi All, Took my Z to an auto specialist (Chester Automatic Transmissions) - fair play, it's a good place and they know what they're on about. They do a lot of work on Z autos, had another one in besides mine. Anyway, they reckon it's lunched, fluid was almost black, leaking seals, magnet swamped by fine particles, aluminium streaks in the fluid odd bits of metal. I only took it in to have solenoids replaced :'( Going manual now :-) as they want £2000+ to replace the autobox. Anyone know where I can get this done (apart from SE - too far and don't have £1000 to spend!!) I have a brand new 90 Jap auto three solenoid kit (shift A, B and LP) and trann…

Guys, Finally got around to purchasing a headunit and some component speakers this past weekend. I'm really looking forward to installing it as I've now plodded around for the last year and a half listening to Terry Wogan's lame jokes on Radio 2 on my Jap-spec radio. Anyway, I am not the most proficient lad when it comes to audio install so I thought I'd first ask a few questions before ripping the car apart! I bought an Alpine CDA-7893R headunit which is powered directly from the car battery (20-amp wire required). I understand that I can utilize the bonnet cable hole to pass the wire through the bulkhead but is there any other location to pass it through?…

Hey all My Import has cruise control, but it doesn't seem to work. I've got 3 buttons on the steering wheel "Acc", err can't remeber the other 2, but these don't seem to do anything:confused: . What do they mean? The CC button on the console makes a green "cruise control" indicator light up on the dash when pressed, also another "cruise" green light has been on at some point, though I can't remember how i did it  :) . Shouldn't i just have to press the CC console button then it should stick to the speed i'm doing? This doesn't happen, it decelerates. Is there a diagnostic I can do? Cheers for any input people Pete

Hi all...I am new to the the Z family. I inherited my mom and dad's 1985 300Z about 2 years ago. It hasn't given me a bit of trouble until now even with 243000 miles on it. But I drove over a speed bump and now the dash indications don't work. No fuel, tach, speed, oil press, temp, battery.....nothing...all black acrossed the board. I have the original shop manual for this year and I am going to start with checking the combination gauge....page EL-83. What ever that is.....any other ideas? I also hear that it is also a common problem for it to have a bad hesitation during acceleration while it is warming up. But after its warmed up then it runs like a champ.....

Picked up my first Z this Sunday. A 91 auto TT in pearl ruby red. I am still getting used to the power - if you get the auto box at the right time and kick down at the right speed and revs, its awesome. Trouble is with my new toy is that I keep doing it. I just filled up with petrol before coming home, had dinner, shower etc... then a voice in my head called me and said "Drive me again" I jumped into the Z and went up and down the A14. I have done just 45 miles and used a quarter tank, OUCH:( :( :( :( Is this normal:confused: Will I have to hide the keys from myself when I get home ??????

Ok, this may have been suggested before but..... Goosehonk comes about when an aftermarket filter is fitted. This is because the new filter is far less restrictive and allows the air blown into the intake tract by the recircs, to blow back past the MAS and out of the filter. This doesn't happen with the stock airbox as it is far more restrictive. Replacing the recircs will not cure the problem - maybe fitting faulty seized ones will though ;) So, infact, the recircs are not even doing their job - the whole idea is to retain the air in the system once it has passed the MAS (its been measured into the engine so the ecu will fuel for it). So, what's your excuse…

Hey guys I'm looking for some help on a mates Z . The car will start from cold and run ok until it gets up to temp...... then it splutters and dies and refuses to start. Is there a known problem that fits the description? I'm thinking along the lines of a temperature controlled switch / valve? The car has recently had new PTU's, so I'm hoping these can be ruled out Thanks in advance

In response to earlier topics about oil additives and how good engine oils are... Only top-tier oils (the best and most expensive) are formulated for the best performance. Whether they could be significantly better (for normal use) is doubtful. The reasons for this are... 1. Oil additives do some wonderful things like reducing friction, reducing wear, reducing oxidation and dispersing soot particles etc.. But, only so much is beneficial, because... Additives to reduce wear and friction COMPETE with each other, and there is only so much surface area within an engine. Additives do not LUBRICATE. The base oils lubricate the engine, so excess additives mer…

Hi, Does anyone who has run their own speaker cable to the fronts from the head unit mind sending me some information on how to go about it? My original wiring is shot and I want to run some new wiring. I've got no problem removing the head unit, and getting to the back of it, and I don't have any trouble taking the panels off the doors either. My only worry is how (and where) to run the wires from the back of the head unit, and through the rubber wiring tunnel to the door. I'm assuming I'll have to remove some panelling like the glovebox and/or bits of the dashboard, but I've not done this and can't find any info about doing this. Are there any pit…

As a young man, Norton was an exceptional golfer. At the age of 26, however, he decided to become a priest, and joined a rather peculiar Order. He took the usual vows of poverty, chastity, but his Order also required that he quit golf and never play again. This was particularly difficult for Norton, but he agreed and was finally ordained a priest. One Sunday morning, the Reverend Father Norton woke up and realizing it was an exceptionally beautiful and sunny early spring day, decided he just had to play golf. So... he told the Associate Pastor that he was feeling sick and convinced him to say Mass for him that day. As soon as the Associate Pastor left the room, Fath…
